Need a new computer for homeschooling? You can do worse than a sub-£30 2007 MacBook off eBay

Michael Habel

Where the Hell are you sourcing 2007, Macs for 30£? I think that alone should be the story. Given how a 2010s Mac Pro with 2x Harwell era Xenons are still going for no less than a 1000€s over here. A Macbook of that vintage no less than a 150€, and then as defect, a working one? Hell they want about twice that much.

Death of the PC? Do me a favour, says Lenovo bigwig: 'I'm expecting the biggest growth in a decade... for 2021'

Re: I think Lenovo is right

Hasn't this been tried to death, and beyond? The last great experiment being with Netbooks? No Normie will want to touch Linux, you might have more success getting them to switch to a BSD derivative, and by that I mean MacOS.

Michael Habel

Re: What growth?

One would suspect that the CPU (Looking at you Intel yes you who feel it necessary to reinvent the CPU Socket every 24 months.), would be the biggest PITA. As you would also need a matching Mobo to go with it.

Michael Habel

Re: What growth?

Execpt the post haswell CPU instruction set. sure you can buy a cheap 2010' Mac Pro with dual socket Xenon's with 24 cores total. But a modern day i9 can give you the same results, with just the one chip. Add to this since I'm thinking broadly of Hackintosh here. There is a real brick wall that time is racing to at full steam ahead with this advice.

Unless you can buy used (not much help to the likes of HP) and for dirt cheap. Your better off sourcing the modern parts out yourself.

Windows to become emulation layer atop Linux kernel, predicts Eric Raymond

Michael Habel

Do I have to explain the difference between CE, RT and Windows x86-64? If I had ment to say the previous Two I would have said so. I said Windows as in Windows X. Making the switch, and pulling it's apps off the x86 Platform al-la Apple.

As to this NOT being Redmonds fist rodeo. Yes we were aware of that. But those products were Windows in name only.

Michael Habel

Assuming this is accurate... Is this how Windows goes ARM? Almost makes you feel sorry for Intel. I guess this should be subtitled The immanent death of x86-64.

Microsoft lends Windows on Arm a hand with emulation layer to finally run 64-bit x86 apps at last

Michael Habel

Re: It's just fear of missing out

Again are Intel just gonna lie down, and roll over, before floating titsup? Has nobody passed this memo off to them? Did the not care enough to lose Apple as just another OEM to sell their warez to?

Michael Habel

Why is everyone raging on M$ for? One would have to think that the inevitable victim here would be Intel, possibly AMD.

I mean it gets the knogin jogin that there isn't a proper ARM Linux disto in the vein of Ubuntu, or CentOS.*

*Yes I'm aware of generic ARM Builds for your Pi. I'm trying to think bigger than that though.

Wow Coca-Cola has a monopoly in the Coke market. I'm telling you it's a real head scratcher how PepsiCo manage to stay in business. When Pepsi should also be able to sell Coke. Its just not fair.

Re: Microsoft Has anyone else noticed...

I thought that such was the raison d'être of both Windows X, and it's built-in crAPP Store that pretty much nobody uses.

Michael Habel

Re: SLAPP

That is of course a different story, and how much a jury will see the phone market as being something compleatly other then say ye ol traditional PC Market, and that should not be to wide a strech. As everyone plus the family dog, can scrape your "mobile waste data" for fun, and PROFIT. Although a few people have mummered about this before. most just chose to look the other way for the sake of an easy life, of point to point GPS Navigation, Wireless Payments, or for the more mentaly ill amoung us.... Targeted Ads.

So let us NOT go saying that this is not how the PC Market does things. Because the Phome Market has never had anything outside of the wider Internet, and all that in there lay. to do with it.

Michael Habel

Then again they probably don't... But, please feel your freest to direct me to the nearest >insert diety< engraven stone where it states that life, is not only fair. but, by its very esssence must be.

Let alone every other Team from the MLB to the NHL But, FWIW I don't quite know myself why we are even having a Baseball Season this year for. They should have just shut it down, along with the rest. Again all this is political BS in an election year. Which in a better dimionsion could have possbly worked. Alas back in this One we are stuck with Creepy old Pedo Joe. and, well its President Trump's game to lose. and, god help us if he somehow does. I deffintly DCO NOT want to live in a world where President Kamala Haris, and Vice President Kill 'em all Hillary are the ones in charge.

Michael Habel

One would THINK... If One were a "peacful protestor" One would actively distance themselves from the bad actors giving everyone else a bad name. Alas for reasons that are not apprently clear this is exaclty what IS NOT happinging.

Perhaps someone should ask why? But, again that would take the wind out of to many sails. and, CHAZ is such a hep spot to be in. An Anarchists wet dream or so I'm told. If anything good sould come from CHAZ, and its ilk... It WILL be another four years of President Trump.

Re: If there were no Facebook?

Again, who cares? Facebook (the last time I looked), were based in the USoA. That means they have to respect US Law. Unlike say GB Law, where Speach is not free, and lord help you if you record your dog doing cute things on youtube that might upset someone. Because the joke went over their heads.

We can either respect our eldest laws (coof) The First Ammendment (coof), or we can watch the country burn. You want a resonable discussion why I should address you in some prefered pronoun? Ok I'm willing to discuss it. But, never tell me that I must. Ether way the First Amendment stops when you start thworing Bricks, or Firebombs at mom & pop shops. and. contrary to some peoples enlightend beliefs Americans also have the right to defend themseelves, and or their property. Yes even with deadly force where needed. This is not the same as theright murder someone, and yes in the case of Geroge Zimmerman. You will eventually have to answer for it in a court of law.

Michael Habel

Re: If there were no Facebook?

And pray tell us exacly WHO, or by what standard in which you would hold anyone least of all Facebook to? If we hold our laws in any reguard whats so ever then the very first ammendment MUST BE RESPECTED... Yes at the cost of either your respect or mine. There can BE NO hate speach, as there is only "Free Speach", or there is none. there is no middle ground here to debate. Free Speech cares a wet jot about your FeFe's.

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

Lord knows what hell you lot actually would pay for? Insurance is little more then a legal scam. you can dump millions into it over a lifetime, and never see a penny of it. because of some weaslewording on page 23 in 0.05pt font. states that your Fire Insurance does not cover water damage caused by the Fire Department trying to put the fire out.

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

I'm sure all those reported rapes, and gunshots during the CHAZ invasion were all commited by "Trump supporters".... And, not by some fairweather Commie, with said guns. Or the Commmies who are bussy looting, and buring everything to the ground. I think you forget that people have the right to defend themselves, and their property. Something NOT affoerded to coof comuinties coof in 1930 Germany. which makes you look like a total tool. Cause if had a the slightest clue, you wouldn't be saying that.

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

Well there is that "wall" between Work & Home that could be lost. then there is the lack of contact with your co-wokers. to descuss the little things like lastnights tv show. last saturdays match. The hot babe, up on the 40th Floor in the HR Department... etc....

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

And, just how many People on the 48th Floor, all of whom are slated to "Work from Home", should they choose to.... Do you think this will affect? Or is it your oppinion that Smallvile Man. just out of High School has the same qulifacations. (e.g. Ivy League Universtiy Education), those who had? Perhaps not everyone will have a "quality" Internet. but, then, not everyone will need, or want a "quality internet". Or it could be in the New "Normal" eveyone with a valid subscription can vicariously gain their MBAs without ever stepping a millimeter on a campus.

So again what "value" is in a Harvard / Yale etc...Diploma when the World + Dog can also earn one from an on-line course?

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

Would it be fair to point out that Detroit is your most classic example of a Deamonrat controled City? Ya know because Orrange Man Bad.... Orange Man who wants to stop or, at the least stem the exudus of said Jobs to Mexico, and China. I don't think Japan has stolen a single job in, andof itself. Just because once upon a time. Japanse Automakers were able to sell a cheaper, more economical product. Which itself was probably bolted together somewhere in the PRC.

That level of Manufacturing will never return to Detroit. Hell I doubt even WWIII would be enough anymore. Given how the furturte of Warfare is tending to. That Cat has left the box.

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

Sounds to me like Ye'ol classic form of "investment", which is just a loaded word for "Bet". Sometimes you win. Well this time they lost. The property bubble in New York was long overdue for a popping. and, now post '20 Coof, and mostly peaceful commie roitors are finnally driving the middle class out, along with the 1%'s who lost any reason to reain there. Broadway is in short non-existant. Exclusive Highstreet Shopping is being driven off by the afrementiond "mostly peaceful" Deamonrats. (BLM, Antifa etc..), Why the hell would anyone chose to remain there? And, its likely to only get alot worse before it gets any better.

Michael Habel

Re: I would hate to own commercial real estate

Only in as far as there is NO excuse to be a leach on society. Sadly, not everyone has the "right" to live in Mannhattan. Just like not everyone can have a Farrari just 'cause they want it.
