Windows 10: Buy cheap, buy twice, right? Buy FREE ... buy FOREVER

Michael Habel

Re: Why free?

It is here that we get to the (or at least a) answer to why Win10 is free. What Microsoft want is for everyone to take their five year old PCs and laptops, upgrade to Win10 without taking a full backup (I use Macrium) and then find that the drivers are a problem, the memory needs increasing, the processor isn't up to it etc. After a bit of frustration they head off to PC World or Currys and buy a new higher spec PC or laptop with Win10 bundled in and the Microsoft money pump is restarted.

Or figure out that MicroSoft couldn't code its way out of a Paper Bag, at this point, and transition over to Cinnamon Mint, simples!

Michael Habel

[surly...]

It would surely be in Microsoft’s own interest to dissuade users from upgrading at all, and support Windows 7 until the end of time.

But, wheres the Money in that?! When you can pay M$ a 1.99$ a Month, or a penance of 9.99$ per annum to remove ads on Solitaire now? This is where the future of Windows lies in Micro-transactions, and Freemiums. Of course your jaded, clueless Windows 8.x user will point out that they've known no other way (as far as Ads in Solitaire go..), even if the rest of our memory's can trace it back as part of the OS proper these last what Twenty-Five Years, or so now?!

... And, don't call me Shirley!

Windows 10 marks the end of 'pay once, use forever' software

Michael Habel

Well to be honest the things that I've been reading about Windows 8.x & 10 haven't had me singing in the rafters.... In hindsight I think the post Windows hate ~ca Vista were totally... Or near totally unjustified. However Ballmer giving the OEMs to play fast & loose with the minimum specs of what is needed to actually run a decent Vista Machine, was probably what killed it off. Thus enters Windows 7, the Neo-XP I'd dare to say that Windows 7 probably was their high-water mark as far as the OS goes...

Then came the iFad, and oh-nows we need to make everything touch-able now... Thus came Windows 8.x... And, all the WIMP users went into a giant collective chorus of WTF?! Thus enters Windows 10.

But, the one thing I've yet to see (i.e. read), even once... Is any compelling reason to push off, and use Windows 10, over say Windows 7. I think anyone with a braincell left would know that this is a downgrade. Loss of Aero (Transparencies), loss of privacy (creepy Cortina), the loss of control (updates).... I've yet to see any wins... Other then.. Well its not Windows 8.x!

I don't have a doubt in my mind this is what millions of People are thinking this right now... Problem is I was blessed to never come across any Windows 8,x Machines in the Wild ever. So while I can feign emptily for those Persons... I really haven't a clue about it. And Microsoft are cementing 7's place as the new XP, well till 2020 anway. I wonder if history (XP clinging to life after all these years with reportedly 12% of all Internet traffic coming from XP.), is set to repeat itself? Something is telling me yes it will.

Re: Linux

Again at the risk of being pedantic... ITS DEBIAN! And, not Ubuntu!

Michael Habel

You can't understand the Windows hate?! Funny 'cause you touched on sever points of why I disliked Windows 8.x for instance.... Things I hate (or at least on paper dislike), are enforced Driver / UI Updates with little to no say in the matter of what gets installed... The p2p sharing of the aforementioned updates at MY EXPENSE! Sure uncle Google can tell you how to turn this one off. But, why is it even on to start with?!

I'm sure the allusion of having to shellout for things like the standard DirectX Updates will also go down well, as well. There are plenty of reasond to dislike where MicroSoft are taking Windows. Its one thing to move Office online... It will not be as simple for them to do this with Windows which is on a far more personal level. While the exit en-mass to Linux may not happen. It will happen with other non PC style equipment, and I think MicroSoft have their finger on this pulse. But, they're making this a self fulfilling prophecy with Windows 10 as it is. When what every one wants is the LTSB (5+ year version).

Michael Habel

To add to this... DirectX shall never be the noose with which they'll hang me with... I could care lees if DX12 is ONLY for Windows X! I'm sure the PC Master Race will swallow it But, PC gaming has never appealed to me in the post MS-DOS era. But, MicroSoft will end up finding its market this way. But, I wonder how paying for something that was essentially an OS Patch will eventually play down.

But, whats sadder in this post Windows X launch, is the lack of heart felt motivation to step away from Windows 7. Like I said... It probably is very well a godsend for those on Windows 8.x. I have NO problems in believing that! But, this is in-and-of-itself is NOT enough motivation for me a Windows 7 user to want to pack it all up and, call it a day. And, its only just shy a slap in the face that only the Bankster Classes will be granted the LTSB (Ultimate) Branch of W10.

I have very little interest in being just a bit further up the chain then a bleeding-edge alpha Insider Tester. So that they can be in turn spared. And, then there are other problems with this OS like the p2p update system... Yeah... I'm sure thats gonna last the lifetime of the OS without ever getting p0wned once.

Suddenly Windows (H)8 is becoming itself more, and more attractive... This can't be good for MicroSoft.....

Michael Habel

For the life of the Device... or 2025

Whichever comes first! I really doubt that this will be the "final" Windows.... Then again, it may well turn out to be. MicroSoft have to be negh-on delusional to think that they can force Joe Schmo into forking $99.95 a Year or 12 easy installments of $8.50 a Month to use this wonderful piece of Software. Just who do these Cats think they are Adobe, or something?!

Michael Habel

Re: Linux

Try Linux Mint, all the Debian (apt-get), goodness without the Amazon bloat. -- fixed that for you... Ubuntu might be the goto brand... But, at the end of the day it is itself only a fork of Debian.

Michael Habel

PS: I actually like Windows 10. Upgraded it over a dinner time from Windows 8.1 and started using it as I'd left off before. No glitches or anything. Very impressed.

I'm sure a random dog turd on the sidewalk, would be more impressive then Windows 8.x. So I'll trust your opinion on this matter. But, what I'd like to know is how it fairs against say a real OS like Windows 7 x64 Ultimate...

Windows 10: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to Microsoft's long apology for Windows 8

Michael Habel

Re: Epic fail by Intel

These Intel Phablets of which you speak of... Were they ruining Windows Mobile to start with?! Most of these x86 Phablets I've heard of were mostly running Android.

Michael Habel

And, if...

DirectX 12, and XBone streaming... Much less PC gaming in general don't appeal to my senses, what will? MicroSoft's intrusive spyware *cough* Cortina? *cough* Funny thing that... Not only is my PC NON-TOUCH... It also doesn't come with a Mic.... Well not since the days I've given up on Creative Labs, in the early '00's IIRC they usually packed in a Mic in back then. So probably just as useful. Cloud Storage? Outside of non-critical crap like my MP3 Collection that otherwise on my Local NAS... Um no... But, the lose of control one faces in moving to Windows X is really for me the final nail here. Presented with a choice of Windows (H)8, with manual updates... Or Windows X without that option... I'd have to use (H)8.x here. I suppose it could be worse I could be coming of a Home version of 7, instead of the Ultimate version, and therefore have lost the WSUS option as well....

I have no clue in how MicroSoft want to see themselves in say five years, from now. I myself see a migration to Linux Mint before long.

What a shame that them Boy's at Valve are too slow, to press SteamOS w/Half-Life 3 right now... MicroSoft would be so reckt in the "Home Market". Hopefully we'll get to see Windows X Enterprise enter the OEM Market... LTSB.... This is not just for Corporates! I'm sure lots of us all like long term stability.... Which probably explains why XP is still a thing.

She's not a US corporation. Her little DMCA joke doesn't mean anything. The DMCA was written and passed by corporations to serve their interests not hers. Who the hell does she think she is? What a fuckwit.

MORE Windows 10 bugs! Too many Start menu apps BREAK it

Michael Habel

The cascade of bugs just keeps on flowing.

Smug mode as I'm sticking with the nice and stable W7 for the next 5 years.

You, and every right minded thinker on this Site.... You'd have to be more daft then a brush to jump from Windows 7, to Windows (OS)X this point. But I would love to see some Tech Sites actually give a decent review of the pros & cons of this new OS... And if a jump in the interim should be possibly considered or no.

But, my biggest gripe with Windows (OS)X would be the enforced updates... I don't much care for that. Not one little bit...

Re: Who intentionally sends MMS messages these days?

Right:

- I have turned off MMS upload (never used the system anyway)

- I don't use hangouts

- I never installed Viber.

- Media playack by VLC

What else?

Why are you assuming that VLC... Is any safer then say Kodi?! Do you even know what Stagefright does?! Or would you just be assuming that its only something that gets installed along with Kodi?!

FYI -- Stagefright is the Hardware Acceleration CODECs needed by your Device in order to playback pretty much every Media File you have, and unless I'm missing my guess here... This shall also include such mundane things like *.mp3's.

So someone shall have to explain this one to my why VLC should be any safer then the next Player?!

Michael Habel

Re: Workarounds

'Cause VLC would as likely as not also rely on the Stagefright CODECs to Videos to actually work.... Since its actually part of the Android -- Linux System, and would NOT otherwise be included with Kodi, or VLC... It's hardly like we could expect them to fix it for us. I'd imagine a Patch in-and-of-itself wouldn't take the World to fix.... But, getting that Patch out to everyone who'd needs it, is. Google need to have a re-think about how to bypass the OEM's to allow those who need to get Security Patches, to then actually get them... FAST!

Then again... With no credible third Mobile OS out there, they still have time.... I suppose. And NO WinPho... Is in my book anything BUT, credible.... As bad as Android might be.... I'd still would have it over WinPho every time. This just makes me wish that the Ubuntu Phone was a bit closer to reality now though.

Michael Habel

Re: Workarounds

Anonymous commenter at Slashdot suggests modifying the following entry in /system/build.prop:

media.stagefright.enable-player=false

(Root is required to modify build.prop)

Great so I managed to kill off stagefright.... How the Hell do I use my seemingly legit Kodi Install (Google Playstore), to watch stuff on my Phablet now?! Speaking about Kodi I guess it would be an even higher infection vector, in the sense, that its raison d'etre IS to play Movies (i.e. Clips)... Not above the board. (i.e From unknown sources). While there hasn't been much said about it. I don't think this is the first instance of a Video managing to pw0n some System. (Thinking of Windows here),.

But, Kodi (Formerly known as XBMC), or in some cases SPMC. Damned well nearly relay on stagefright to work. Assuming you wanted your Movies to actually work.

First off I couldn't give a toss about Windows (h)8! Its yesterdays news... And, I'm sure the poor souls saddled with it will be glad to see the back of it soon... The simple matter however remains... Those still on Windows 7, or (h)8, still retain a modicum of say on what happens to their Machines. A modicum that will soon disappear once Windows 10 hits. Effectively making anyone using it a Beta Tester! *cough* Current Consumer Branch *cough*. This is not some fable story, of a madman ITS A [RECATCED]'ing FACT!

If given the choice of either Windows (h)8, or Windows 10, I'd almost have to take windows (h)8. I hate TIFKAM with every fiber of my core. But, the day I release the control of my Machine back to Redmond, will be the same Day a one Mr. Satan decides to go Figure Skating, on the reportedly thin ice.

Besides I'd like to remind my Pro-Microsoft shrilling friends, that I'M NOT asking for your defense... But, as to a reason beyond "NEW" & "FREE", and a stealthy transition overnight. from Windows 7/8 Home Premium, to Windows 10 Home the next morning. Without much more express waring then the installer down at the corner.

Yes you, and I know what its about. Could you say the same thing about your Parents?, How about your Grandparents? Or the Asylum Seekers across the road? That know jackall about Computers? And, just assume that its all good?

And, this is all before we even get to the Cloud, and everything you do becoming the product on Windows 10! So please enlighten us with your savvy, shrilling ways as, to why everyone should move on? As no doubt, by your comments. You'll be one of the first to do so, no doubt.... /sarcasm.

Michael Habel

Remind me again where anything in this article or comment thread says you should upgrade?

Oh, it doesn't? And you're just throwing shit around like a confused monkey?

Fine.

You Sir are correct, there is nothing in the article at all about how the reception to Windows X over the coming months could spell either the success, or eventual continued failures in Redmond.

We begin Redmond's fiscal 2016 with the Windows 10 launch next week, and it's very much a make-or-break moment. If the new OS is received as coolly as Windows 8 was, expect a very bloody year indeed for Microsoft.

Not a single word at all....

Michael Habel

To my friendly downvoter.... Since you seem to be of the opinion that Windows X is, going to be the next greatest thing since XP.... Would you mind sharing these opinions with the rest of us?!

Thanks!

Michael Habel

Remind me again why I should migrate away from a perfectly acceptable Windows 7 x64 Ultimate --- With Patch Tuesday support... Conceivably until the 14th, of January 2020 anyway. For something that doesn't? Prudy Start Menu's, and Metro Tiles be damned?!

Better support?! Really I was brought up to believe that <Deity> helps those that help themselves... Now under Windows OSX I can just sit right back and, place all my "faith" into MicroSoft, doing the right things.A Company not terribly known for doing the right thing(s).

While I think the idea of 24/7 roll out instead of sitting on it for upwards of a Month could in itself be a great thing... Having the Pills shoved up your backside against Ones will is... Well less cool.

So unless someone can come up with a better reason then HAY ITS NEW! HAY DID WE TELL YOU ITS ALSO FREE?! I don't think I'll even waste the cycles trying to even playtest it. Much less be willing to then use it.

I'm willing to bet that Once the ramifications of MicroSofts Update Policies hit home, and the inevitable amount of Machines crash on a MicroSoft Update... (AND, THEY WILL! If only because they have!),. Then Expect MicroSoft to have some tall explaining to do.

For me this is an even deadlier curse then that ugly poor excuse for a redhead stepchild TIFKAM. At least you could reportedly still manage Windows 8.x retarded features, to get it somewhat working like normal. I fail to see such a Fix for WOSX here.. Sans cutting the Wire, and staying off-line. Which isn't really an option.

Microsoft to Windows 10 consumers: You'll get updates LIKE IT or NOT

Michael Habel

I did that - but after updates this week the W10 icon reappeared in the system tray. Scratching my head how the hidden KB3035583 got installed again - but it did. Have now uninstalled and hidden it again. Can MS updates override that hidden property - and automatically select it as essential?

And, here I thought I was the only One... But this is why I come to Sites like the Reg... So as to make myself aware of what to miss. on Windows Updates. I'm not sure how old KB3035583, or some of it closer relations are...But,. it feels like I've been setting this Update to hide now, for the last three months now.. Knowing what bastards MicroSoft are in this department... It's one of the first Updates I'm searching for... Asking myself the same stupid question... Why is this back, when I told it to sod off!

Michael Habel

Re: no matter what MS force on us

You wont get patches sight-unseen. The insider program is going to continue even after the official release. Any updates will first be rolled out to the insiders and then to the general public. Although how much that will help only time will tell.

A.K.A. MicroSofts like of Alpha Testers... Really if your not already on W7/W8.. To get the *cough* free *cough* Windows OSX Update... Why would you reserve yourself to this special place in computer Hell for yourself? Probably the same 'dolts that actually convinced themselves that W8+Metro was the BEST THING EVER!!

Really such users should probably bight the built and, install Cinnamon Mint instead!

Michael Habel

Re: no matter what MS force on us

What could *possibly* go wrong with simultaneous updates of scores of millions of computers in the homes of technically unsophisticated users?

What indeed.... Let's though this pile of Tat, at that wall... (of massively), unwilling of Windows OSX users out there, and see what sticks! Before we feed our latest creation off to the Banksters. No sense in pissing them off... Since they'll be the first to transition to Linux, should they be provoked into doing so....

And, so congratulations! EVERYONES A BETA TESTER NOW! Save the Insiders... They get promoted to become MicroSoft's Alpha Team!

Me I'm the kinda guy that prefers to wait till six months after the first Service Pack, before installing.

Michael Habel

Re: no matter what MS force on us

<blockqoute>Why would anyone want a 'fix' to stop important security updates & fixes? Anyone declining updates puts themselves at risk as well as others.

Some of you are being awkward just for the sake of it. Having said that, as I.T Admins you'd be using the Enterprise version which you having full control over updates. If you are the kind of Admins who do not deploy updates after a week or two of testing then you should be removed from your jobs.</blockqoute>

Yeah 'cause MicroSoft NEVER install such utterly useless and annoying crap like KB905474 (Windows XP WGA Phonehome Spy/Nag-ware), and will boldface lie to you, about how "Critical" this Update was at the time!

In more recent times... (Of unwanted, or unbidden, unasked for Nagware's), we have KB3035583. Which after how many Months this crap has been up, and gets set to "hidden DO NOT alert me about this again...". Just keeps popping up every month again as an "Important Update"....

So I for One will trust MicroSoft IMPLICITLY to never abuse such a mechanism EVER... I've never once said! I might have mentioned somewhere in passing, a old Hitchhikers quote about not trusting MicroSoft in this capacity more then I could spit a lightly fried Stoat.... In a Bun!

Well I still don't, and as if I actually needed reason to avoid Windows 8.x / Windows OSX like the Plague.... I'd say look no further.... As far as MicroSoft's history of destructive / disruptive history of Windows Updates go.... When you have Security Houses... Warring you to perhaps, let that KB3065718 (SQL Server Remote Code Execution). Which MicroSoft postponed last month, because they thought it wasn't quite ready for prime-time. Are telling their Customers that, they may well still want to give KB3065718, the slip. Should they actually value stability, over updates.

Yep.... Sign me up for Windows OSX TOUT SUITE.... I also never said!

Michael Habel

Re: no matter what MS force on us

There is a perfect fix for this already, it's called a Linux distro...

Or Windows 7 x64 Ultimate! ... Or perhaps to a lesser degree if your into that sorta thing... (Which personally I'm not!), Windows 8.x. Both of which should be ok for the time being.

China reveals home-grown supercomputer chips after Intel x86 ban

Michael Habel

Re: For fuck's sake

Anyway, China is hardly the military threat the USSR was back in the day

Well duh! Its not like China has any direct grievance with anyone, unlike say North Korea. The threat is largely directed towards Taiwan. Which has been know to get rather uppity at times. While the rest of the World treats Taiwan as a defacto state in its own right. Its still officially Communist China, and the Threat here, is that the Taiwanese might end up provoking mother China into invading it. Which will then involve the US, and likely a WWIII scenario. That or the NORKs actually manage to nuke someone.

Not to mention that the Chinese, would likely have little problems in selling such tech to the norks, as long as they'd come up with the bill. But, I wonder if this might pave the way for Chinese chipmakers to deliver smaller, faster, cheaper, and more powerful Chips for PC use, to rival what both AMD & Intel are currently pumping out.

Actually... ironically its the reverse that's likely more true. Given that High Fructose Corn Syrup tends to be more highly concentrated then plain old Cain Sugar. It just happens that Corn Syrup is way cheaper to procure then the real stuff that, that gets reportedly used in Mexico. Though I gather that this use is almost extensively only used for Export to the USoA these days, and the average Mexican on the Street, is drinking the same Corn Syrup Drinks, like the rest of us.

Migrating to another entirely different platform (or even upgrading to a new one of the same) is not something anybody should consider doing 'inside a month'. Any organisation only considering their options at this point has all the IT expertise and acumen of the NHS.

I couldn't have said it any better myself! I mean if your just rolling along, and have only just heard about the passing of both XP, and now WS2k3, then you really only have yourself to blame. Amazon Prime TV on the other hand seems to be quite good by comparison and far cheaper.

That may well be truer for your neck of the woods... Here in Germany I could summarize Prime here, in much the same way. Which is way I made sure to can my Subscription at the first possible chance after the (We hope you done forgotten about us after Two Weeks) cooling off period. I guess the question remains if Netflix (Germany), would be any better?

But, who needs either when you have Kodi, and its half-dozen assortment of Add-Ons that pretty much cover everything.... Better then the native Android Apps... [sic] Amazon Prime.

Re: Hmm

You can't do that kind of punt-taking if you're chasing weekly ad-rev fluctuations.

Thats what Pilots are for... I'm not a fan of Ads either. But if a Show isn't good, and can't get the ratings it goes, and something better (usually...), comes along. As much as I hate Big Brother, and its ilk of Reality TV, it manages to sell itself. I'm more of a Documenteries kinda guy myself. So I would watch Stations like PSB in the US, or the BBC's 2 & 4. If something were on... These days it seems that they're just recycling old Shows though. Otherwise I actually do enjoy xCIS <DOMAIN>, along with the Walking Dead. If US TV wasn't some of the greatest TV ever. Then I'd say your points were valid. Doctor Who probably wouldn't, or indeed hasn't been able to survive in that environment. it doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist. But why should the majority fund a Program for the minority that get to enjoy it? At leas PBS with its annoying bi-anual beg-a-thons are at least opt-in, and NOT mandated per law!

Michael Habel

1) RIP Top Gear... Its gone, and its never coming back. I have no plans of even entertaining the notion of watching whatever the BBC manage to churn out in this post Clarkson era. Carkson was Top Gear, as was Top Gear being Clarkson. I can not see one without the other. END!

2) HIGNFY on a Boxset really?! I'd have thought that a show sooo topical would be beyond hopelessly dated by the time it got on DVD to start with.

3) Doctor Who needs to revert back into a 20 Minute Cliffhanger format. I don't think the Writers are just that good at writing a script from start to finish in only a 45 Minute arc. Its One of the major things I hate about Nu-Who!

4) Genderbenders... Well I guess every Network must have their Bigbrother crap chucked in. Someone must obviously like it! I could damned well say that of Ballroom dancing. But, even the Yans seem to like this crap too Since it comes on before Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. Why however remains a mystery to me...

Michael Habel

You know before I jumped on this IPTV train I kinda scoffed at the idea that this was a Broadcast killer... Now I'm starting to realize the amount of freedom this give me, being able to watch what I want, whenever I want is a very welcome addition. The fact that most of this stuff already has the Commercials ripped out of it is also a plus! it's not much wonder that the Beeb plan to shove Three onto the Wibbles. But, yeah the Content on 2, and 4 has been rather scarce. that I could see. I guess technically I could still find a live stream of these *cough* Filmon *cough*. But I hardly bother. since these Nutjobs axed the One Show that was actually any good.. Which was Top Gear.

Things like Doctor Who... Will eventually find there way... (As they do!), onto the Wibbles, usually in HD! sometime just after having aired. That Nu-Who (to me...) will never touch the best of old Who... I could care less if I see it the instant it airs, or not.

I suspect the last bastion of Broadcast TV will be the likes of the 24h News Channel(s). As if it weren't for these, and these alone. I could have saved myself the infrastructure costs of installing that DVB2IPTV Converter.

Re: @Triggerfish

To be honest, not really. Core 2 Duos are at least 65 W TDP, you'll need an expensive chassis for that (like Akasa fanless). Plus, the Core 2 Duo doesn't have an integrated GPU or any modern media acceleration features.

Correct me if I'm wrong here... But wouldn't this be where a dedicated discrete GPU would pick up the slack? I mean if the iCore series were as great as all that.. Who'd need to buy AMD/ATi To play Games, or nVidia to run VDPAU h.264 (up to 1080p). It used to be how I ran my HTPC... Till I deep sixed it, for a small Chinese Android TV Box, and a DVB2IPTV encoder.

While there are still several problems with such a setup. Its still able to handle ~90% of my needs The only bits I'm actually missing would be the recording functions of a PVR. But, its a small price to pay between something that only eats ~10W/h as opposed to a bespoke HTPC House, (That wasn't Beige as such...), that ate something closer to 450W/h.

Re: Google

If by Passwords you meant SSIDs, and MAC Addresses* then yeah.... Cause I'm sure thats all Google could ever snag from the backs of their Google-mobiles

*Which is bad enough indeed! But, as long as you're a sensible person and have your channel encrypted, then Google couldn't do much else to you.

Re: A little ridiculous

Thats just it though NOBODY I know actually wants or, even likes the idea of running CrApplets on a PC. The way forward for MicroSoft in the short term is to probably to solely focus on the Enterprise Market, and try to takeover where Blackberry are failing. For the exact reasons give a few posts up. Then they can let the rest of it trickle down into the consumer space. As it stands MicroSoft have next to no consumer value over Apple or Google's Android.

And if Universal CrApps mean more TIFKAM... Then I'll be off to the greener pastures of Mint Linux like a shot! Integration is kinda nice, but I think the price of Free (Windows), might still be to high!

Re: Looks suspiciously familiar

May I suggest that the authors of Cinammon's UI in the current Linux Mint distro get some lawyers to look at the Win10 screenshots in this article?

Where exactly are you seeing Mint in all of that? 'Cause to be fair to MicroSoft... I'm not seeing what your seeing...

The biggest problem is creaky old Windows Update which has to be just about the worst update mechanism of any OS. I would not like to do a new OS install on W10 in three years time if the current state of WU is anything to go by, it would take an eternity to patch the system.

>Implying this isn't the case for XP SP2 to SP3... Or just getting up-to-date on a fresh Windows 7 install.

While I agree sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, Windows is not! It is the best we currently have, and I'm sure plenty of Plebs rely on reading about on a Thursday, or Friday Morning as to which "updates" are then best avoided!

With Windows OSX we don't really have that choice it seems now. So if MicroSoft wants to install some nagware UPDATE TO WINDOWS TODAY! ZM0G! (al-la Like a recent nagware update that they made available to both Windows 7, & 8.x or something more insidious like XPs useless (to anyone who isn't MicroSoft), WGA Call Home Update, which they had the cheek to brand as CRITICAL!

I wouldn't trust Microsoft's updates as far as I could spit a lightly fried stoat in a bun.... I however accept 'em for what they are at face vale.

On the same hand I'm probably just as wrong to assume that Linux Updates are much better, if only that they're mostly peer reviewed before going up.

Windows 10 CRS-7 Edition (RTM) got its view first preview yesterday (28/06/15) by all accounts.

So is this clever way of saying it bombed?!
