My first role was at a Polytechnic operating a DG Eclipse and a PDP11/73. A massive 210Meg of disk on the DG. Had to bootstrap the thing with the switches on the fr...@#$^zzzzzzzttt

Not only can I recall spending hours during my youth playing D&D and AD&D, I can also remember some of my early coding attempts such as different sided dice, character generators, random encounter generators etc.

I guess all I can say is RIP.

Not sure about in the UK, but in Australia one of the major banks tried to implement a more secure payment method by issuing chipped cards and giving (yes giving) their customers card readers so it could do a secure signature on the transaction and relied on you having the physical card for your online transactions.

People decided it was all too hard and the bank ended up with several thousand USB card readers in storage.

I remember just the opposite

We once had a delivery arrive from SUN consisting of about 30 separate boxes. My mate and I grabbed screwdrivers and static straps and set to work. Pretty soon there was one system sitting in front of us with Solaris being installed.

The next day, SUN rang up to organise an engineer to set it up... we said it already was and boy did they get confused...
