Student charity's ex-IT boss in the cooler for stealing $1.3m through fake tech contracts

Robert Moore

Stealing from a charity..

That is lower than low. I hope this vermin never works in IT again.

I recently decided to change ISPs, and since I would be losing my old email address (Long since forwarded to gmail.) I decided to go through all the online services that I regularly use, update the email address, and while I was at it change all the passwords. Making them unique, and difficult to break/bruteforce.

I also started using KeePass to keep them all sorted.

Raspberry Pi 3 tops SBC poll for self-brew hackers and Linux folk

Robert Moore

Community and price.

No surprise that the R-Pi 3 is the most popular.

The community that has grown up around it is fantastic. Very helpful, and hardly ever a RTFM reply to a question.

Then there is the price. At the price for a R-Pi 3 if I make a critical mistake with my project and all the magic smoke escapes, I say a couple of bad words, then go online and order a replacement. No big deal.

Now if I could just get a Pi Zero in Canada at a reasonable price, I would be a happy man.

I seriously doubt that "they" accessed anything off that phone. It looked to me more like a convenient excuse to exit from an unwinnable situation. Also by dropping the issue, rather than pursuing it legally, no legal precedent has been set.

My Video game theory of life.

Life, and the universe as we observe it is nothing more than a MMORPG.

If you look at the players, you will see:

People who have everything handed to them. (God mode)

People who start with the deck stacked against them, crack babies, the disabled. (Nightmare mode)

People playing to win.

People playing to survive.

People playing to lose.

People playing chaotic.

People who cheat.

People who play honestly.

And like most good games it includes embedded video games. (EG: Space Quest 3 - Astro Chicken)

Now the universe makes sense. :)

Why do all redesign make things worse?

It seems like every time a website gets redesigned it gets worse.

Here are my rules for website redesign:

1. Don't redesign because your site has gotten "Stale" (Whatever that means)

2. Listen to your users. If enough users request a change, then consider it.

3. Profit.

Re: Scope creep

I used to work with a PM who had a brilliant way of dealing with scope creep.

Client calls up and says, "We think it would be great if the software would do SOMETHINGSTUPID."

PM says, "Fantastic idea. Since it isn't in the original spec it will only cost $X to implement. Would you like me to send a revised quote?"

$X = several tens of thousands of dollars minimum.
