@ Bah Humbug
"criminal record screws up future career prospects a little though."
No, no, no.
You forget ... he worked for SERCO so he'll be given a top security job with the guv'mint.

And that's just one of the things the Coppers just don't get. The vast majority of people are happy with the sort of 'justice' handed out by the cage fighters.
The Police (when they can be bothered to turn up) have to be so politically correct they arrest the wrong people. In the end, it is the Police themselves who invite 'vigilante justice'.
I don't think Apple comment upon this (no surprise, there) but my understanding was that Apple chose the logo in homage to Alan Turing, father of the modern computer and responsible for much of the decoding of Hitler's messages. Turing killed himself by injecting an apple with poison and then taking a bite out of it after he was prosecuted for having a same-sex lover. Homosexuality was a crime in the UK in those days.
Who knows?
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
And for breakfast this morning I had two HW23a tablets and a lovely drink of 342.
I went to work on my Dringod 350 Squricycle and my Boss gave me a salary raise of 45 skrimbles per month!
Wife No5 has complained that our children aren't getting the right education on Zarg 4 and wants them back. I explained they can't come back until they're 46 yargs old.
Charles, don't have a go at someone who has had the courage to say he bought a Zune. Admittedly it was for another person.
The only questions to be asked here are concerning his wife. Does he hate her THAT much? Was it his wife who demanded a Zune in order to humiliate her husband? Things don't look good there.
All power to Jason for public admission of buying a Zune. Of course had he been in the UK he would have been put on some Register or other.
Presuming you are a US citizen and therefore know nothing of international news ...
The reference is to the extradition Treaty signed by some twat in the United Kingdom which gives the right of extradition of UK subjects to the USA authorities with little or no evidence of guilt. Not even a prima facie case. Whereas for the UK to extradite a US citizen would require the UK to present evidence. Well done the US!
The particular case involves a UK subject, Gary McKinnon, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome and who admittedly hacked in US 'secure' military computer systems looking for, he claims, UFO information. The US authorities want to take him to court. The should actually give him the Congressional Medal or somesuch for showing how pisspoor the security was.
I would rather he remain in this country and be employed by GCHQ to hack into US military computers.
The UK person (aka twat) who signed the Treaty should be sent to Afghanistan with a target on his back.
I had to use o2 because I have an iPhone. I also got a (then) cheap home broadband connection from them.
Just a personal perspective ... I have found no problem with 3G (but I don't get around a lot) and o2's Customer Service has been second to none, provided you can understand Scots accents. My comparisons are with Orange, T-Mobile (they were good, too), and Vodaphone.
I suppose it's just a case of personal experiences.
"Its flagship high-end N97 smartphone met little enthusiasm at its launch in the second quarter of 2009, and has sold just 500,000 units in the channel since it started to ship in June, compared to Apple's iPhone 3G S, which sold 1 million units in its first weekend." (El Reg, today)
Nokia ... the world's BIGGEST phone seller.
They care!
How are you going to stop talking about a mobile phone which smacked the other manufacturers so hard they are all playing catchup and saying 'me too'?
The iPhone for all its faults is still the de facto standard so, inevitably, comparisons will be made and that means talking about the iPhone.
Of course it's only a small percentage of world-wide sales ... that's Apple. But it's amazing the effect they have on the others ... just look at Windows latest copy of what Macs look like and the other mobile phone manufacturers who had a huge user base to begin with. Remember, Apple's iPhone was the 'New Kid on the Block'.
iPhone: who cares?
Lots and lots of people!
Even if this isn't entirely true, IT WILL HAPPEN.
The dark side of me was hoping the Manchester Congestion Charge would come into operation just so that the system could be broken within a few weeks by some teenager.
Lo! We voted against the Manchester Congestion Charge and we're getting the money for the increased services and Metro extension anyway! Quelle surprise!
Oh dear. You just don't get it, do you?
We Mac people ARE superior in ALL respects. We buy expensive machine because we CAN. We earn more because we are CLEVERER. We appreciate good design as we would a fine wine. We fanbois snigger behind PC owners backs. The real sheeple are the hordes of PC owners who are too thick to get out of the Windows fold. They build their own PCs because they try to impress their girlfriends (or boyfriends) with knowledge of the interiors of their computers whereas we Apple owners have merely to flash the Apple symbol.
We ARE smug. Deservedly so, and your vomit will serve only to underline our superiority as we would not stoop to such low levels.
is what this man wants. So, let him have it according to HIS OWN rules ...
I hope one of his legs drops off.
I hope this will be swiftly followed by two of his gonads.
I hope all the hair in his armpits grows out of his nose.
There, a mature debate according to Mr Sutherland's principles.
To those who think a return to a UK based call centre will be better, this is what you'll get ...
"We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls, please continue to hold and a Customer Service agent will be with you shortly."
Which, in real speak is "We haven't got enough staff to answer calls, please be patient with us while we make even more money so we can give lots of dosh to our departing Chief Executive who has brought us low."
What a prize knob end YOU are!
Do you seriously think the USA is our ally? We've only just repaid the 'loans' the USA made to us after World War II.
The US is a free country? Read the Patriot Act!
They have a decent legal system? Their judges are picked by politicians who put our duck-house, moat cleaning bunch to shame for depths of cynical opportunism.
They do exactly as they please, UK or not, and I wish WE took the freedoms of our 'citizens' as seriously as the US Americans do.
FFS ... McKinnon is a wanker, but he did break into a supposedly fortress data system! They should employ him, not imprison him! Better still ... WE should employ him at GCHQ!
There is such a thing as BAD Law and those who oppose it are right to do so.
Incidentally ...
My nephew has Asperger Syndrome. On holiday in Vienna he memorised the entire Vienna Metro system within two days and advised Viennese natives on best routes ... but can he get a job as a Postman in this country? No, because he can't pass the Post Office test paper!
Leaving aside Aspergers and other arguments, we have a UK-v-US situation.
The US can demand extradition from the UK WITHOUT evidence or proper legal argument. And, surprise, surprise, the UK cannot demand the same in reverse.
Whoever signed up to this agreement on the UK side should be put in the Parish Stocks for a month, beaten with clubs to within an inch of his life and then hanged, drawn and quartered. We should all then be invited to jump up and down on the bits. Whoever it was must have been so far up the US's arse that the sun was not shining. Mind you, he would get to meet Tony Blair.
I have an iPhone 3G having previously owned an iPhone.
Unsurprisingly I am with o2 where I get perfectly adequate coverage and speeds (I'm not a business user) and my home broadband for £7 monthly (I'm on a £35 a month contract).
I used to be with Orange when their Customer Service was good (remember those times?). I now get excellent UK-based Customer Service from o2. I can't speak highly enough of it. The Customer Service is worth at least £5 of the contract price.
Having said that, I think o2 spoiled us with their last upgrade offer and I won't upgrade to a 3GS until my contract expires and the prices come down. Nonetheless, I can't think of a reason, service-wise, to leave o2.
Contributors so far have missed the point.
The 'wings' are to facilitate inter-office memos. You enter the co-ordinates on the large screen then launch the device into the air. The wings deploy and cruise between colleagues/offices delivering the missives before you can say 'Bob's yer Uncle".
We've just been told about the big clandestine bonuses awarded to some police officers by police authorities. We've been told that police numbers may have to be reduced in the spending cuts which are not going to happen under NuLabour.
And now we're being told that coppers will spend more time finding out what we say and do online.
What is it with these fuckwits? The public knows that in order to catch crims we need coppers ON THE BEAT to pick up real intelligence. But they consistently refuse to do this. There's obviously not enough money in it for the bonuses.
