Has somebody actually done the numbers on this? It's very doubtful that Apple, Google actually provide a breakdown in their financials.
But surely a court can force the App store profit/loss statement into the open, can't they (like that Idiot's tax returns, eh?)

Clearly, this was both. Engineering failed, spectacularly, one might add. And the blokes at the FAA "allowed" that to happen...
The numbers quoted do NOT equate to a P/E of anything; the article has no mention of P for profits, instead quoting an R for revenue figure.
Having said that, a comparison to Red Hat (revenue 800 odd million, market cap 23 odd billion) suggests the price paid for SUSE (revenue 200 odd million) is very reasonable. Btw, Redhat's P/E is a whopping 59!

I seriously doubt that.
There's no essential difference of the two approaches. An android app demands that the user looks at all its permission requirements prior to installation while an iOS app demands the same when it's first run. Further, being able to "turn off" specific permissions granted to an iOS app is equivalent to the Android "disable this app" option.
