Does Cameron dare ditch poor-bashing green energy?

Chad H.

@ thisusernamedoesnotexist

The problem with wind, as el Reg explored in other articles, is that it creates peak energy at the wrong time and those that have been installed produce less when we need it than we thought they would. The net result is wind turbine operators only making money out of the "renewable certificates" that the government issues and wind turbine operators paying to put their power in the grid.

Wind isn't ready for the emphasis that it's being given.

Sprint joins US feds in anti-AT&T lawsuit

Chad H.

Well

If it weren't for AT&T and then putting those two cables into your home, rather than paying $1.70 a minute you'd have to go there yourself, and pay a lot more for the privelidge.

Its not just your local operator thats responsible for international rates, but the terminating country's telco.

Spamhaus victorious after 5-year fight with mass mailer

Chad H.

@ Ian

So am I right in thinking what Spamhaus should have done is argued in the original court they didn't have juristiction on location grounds?

Chad H.
Thumb Down

Well

I think Spamhaus deserve Plantation AND Bannana.

And a bottle of Bannana wine by way of an apology - and a helper monkey to open it.

Chad H.

Indeed

£3 is still too much

Apple gives green light to Eton solar cell iPhone case

Chad H.

A different handset

Isn't an iPhone update - its a new phone.

The device will still have a use - with the previous model, and given Apple's MO (they tend to keep the older iPhone around as a budget offering) I see this has having a healthly use period...

Chad H.
Facepalm

huh

So you're saying the next iPhone update is going to change the Mains grid power supply?

Chad H.

So not green

So you've got more noxious chemicals in the additional battery and are still using the mains which isnt 100% green.

CERN: 'Climate models will need to be substantially revised'

Chad H.

@ COG

Royal Dutch Shell Performance:

http://www.annualreview.shell.com/2010/reviewoftheyear.php?cat=m

Chad H.
FAIL

@ FeralMonkey

You're trying to tell me that a company with annual revenues in excess of 300 billion USD and at risk of losing pretty much all of it if we stop using so much oil doesnt have the cash to fund competing climate research. This is just Royal Dutch Shell.

Come on, we all know thats nonsense. The real money is in denial - Don't do any work, just say what the big companies that will "go away" if the pro warming science takes hold, cash cheque.

Its not like it will be the first time this has happened - or did you believe the cigarette companies when they said that smoking doesnt cause cancer?

Chad H.
FAIL

Oh Nonsense

Firstly CERN has other projects it could be spending its time on, and will get research funding for.

Secondly, if they were in it for the cash, they'd just saddle up with BP and Shell and say there's no such thing and cash their cheque. There's more money in denial than in confirmation.

New UK 'leccy meters remotely run via Voda 2G

Chad H.
WTF?

Well

Does your DECT or CB radio broadcast on 1.8Ghz or 900Mhz? If it does, you need to get it repaired as you're in a dangerous legal position.

my understanings is that its illegal to broadcast on licensed frequencies without the appriate permits and/or frequency owners position. Your jammer fits here.

Don't like smart meters all you like - but in effect you're setting up a pirate radio station to protest them.

Chad H.
Facepalm

But

Can you live with OFCOMs fine?

Chad H.

Don't see how

If you can transmit, you can probably recieve too no problem.

Chad H.

Easily solved

I remember hearing about that too

but its easy to solve: block voice services from the SIMs.

Chad H.

Well

Does a smart meter really need a 3G connection? surely GPRS would be fine for the job, and the 2G signal is usually better.

That said, there is no logical reason not to go for powerline internet for smartmeaters- Solves coverage issues AND opens a new revenue stream.

Apple ejects FT app from iTunes

Chad H.
FAIL

@ AC 2nd September 14:13 GMT

So lets pretend for a moment that apple do what you say, 0% on subs, 30% on sales.

The very next day every app in the store would have a zero purchase price and a subscription instead.

Chad H.

@ Dozy

Well.... no, not really as the App store doesn't set the price - the Developer does.

In a shop, the shop sets the card price

In the App Store, the card company sets the price - and since all app stores seem to run on the agency model you'd probably end up with the same price everywhere.

But, in the App store, if you don't like the price of a card, there's another card rack from another card maker, possibly with different prices.

There is competion for consumers between developers, but with the agency model there is never competition, from the consumer point of view (with the exception of Amazon "If we decide your app is overpriced TS" Andriod store), between app stores.

There is however competition for Developers

Chad H.

@ AC

So those iPad ads played on TV pay for themselves?

Chad H.
Facepalm

But they aren't unconnected

In this case the FT is the guy standing by the card rack selling cards and giving the store nothing in return, taking advantage of the shops' marketing and customer base whilst offering little to the shop in return

DoJ files antitrust suit to block AT&T's T-Mobile buy

Chad H.

@ Wallyb

Oh Nonsense; that upgrading would make sense if T had a Coast to coast LTE network - they don't.

T-Mobile brings to the table their old 2G GSM network - which has a short remaining shelf life, but has some value to AT&T ; a 3G UMTS network that isn't immediately compatble with any other, including AT&T's UMTS network; and a bunch of customers that probably wouldnt take too much work to migrate over.

Post-Jobs run on overpriced Apple shares fails to occur
