Is SproutCore worth the Flash and Java iPhone snub?

Sproutlore?

Robert Rankin must be proud. Finally, someone in the big wide world pays homage to the man who invented Sproutlore, The Sprouts of Wrath and Sprout Mask Replica. And with Apple's backing too, a combination particularly rich in vitamins...

No no no...

Will nobody ever learn. The warnings are there. Cyber-brain implants are bad news. The last time we tried this we lost Billie Piper to a parallel universe for ever..

Netgear recalls 82,000 powerline Ethernet adaptors

Thumb Down

I had one replaced already...

I've been using powerline netwirking for a while now, and so far I have had 3 solwise adapters, 2 of which died and were replaced under warranty, and one xe103, which lasted less than a week before it cooked itself. No fire, but a lovely acrid smell eminating from it. The replacement they shipped me is on the recall list. So an overall failure rate of 75% on all my powerline devices. Lucky me. Even luckier Netgear.

Restored Vulcan takes to the skies

AVG cries wolf at Adobe Reader

Ross Taylor

Try running AVG on a Virtuozzo host

Recently, one copy of AVG I run has decided that all critical update packages downloaded into virtual servers hosted on this box are infected with trojans, along with the swsoft management software, and several standalone ftp servers installed in virtual servers. You can imagine my suprise when I got a couple of hundred alerts, panicked a littke, scanned the system with something else and discovered it to be fine. Thanks grisoft, just the sort of worry I need in my production environment on a friday afternoon!

Tiscali swallows Pipex broadband and voice

Ross Taylor

Oh dear

As an ex-Nildram engineer who jumped shortly after Pipex assimilated Nildram, I did keep my Nildram adsl line, primarily since the support team were an excellent bunch, but its been going downhill rapidly since Pipex started trying to get themselves assimilated. Now Tiscali are in the picture its hard to see how things could possibly get any better. Bye bye Pipex, I'll miss you like I miss the mud at Glastonbury.
