Sun dreams the impossible Java on Jesus Phone dream

Oh dear

If the VM works as badly as it did from OSX onwards then you may as well give up now, once Apple took it in house no one seemed to bother testing it and it was utterly unusable.

It's all wrong

Calls to ban hoodie-busting sonic weapon

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Well

I've just downloaded the ringtone and played it on my N95 much to the annoyance of everyone around me (2 x 36 year olds, 1 x 31 year old and 1x 28 year old) and we can all still hear it even though it's now off. That is bloody annoying and I can see why people complain about it.

Nokia unveils the N96 and N78

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Free Nokia maps you say?

Is that as in the free Nokia maps that were available on the N95 until they decided to make people pay for them?

Quite annoying that the N96 isn't coming out until Q3 2008 (read that as Christmas, they're never on time with their delivery estimates) as my contract finishes in June.

Really? It was supposed to be in December 2007, then January, then March, last I heard it was May and I'm certainly not holding my breath.

Teen-mum flick gets filmgoers hungry for hamburger phone

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Meh

It's an alright film with some pretty music by Sonic Youth, etc but only average, certainly not Oscar material. And the only people to buy this pos phone are likely to be the same people who buy rubbish like the iphone.

Driller Killer unleashed on UK public

Lloyd

realistically though

You could download them off the web or import them from abroad if you wanted to see them so where's the difference? Mind you, these are 30+ years old, they're probably laughable in terms of horror.

"Chainsaw (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)"

It was never used as a weapon in TCM, just waved around menacingly, for true use as a weapon see Ash in Evil Dead II/III.

Incidentally, there's nothing wrong with owning Force FX sabres, it's just bragging that you have 6 of the buggers that gets you thrown ..... all right I'm leaving.

Japanese whalers lash protesters to mast

Lloyd

Well yes

The crew of the Sea Sheperd are environmental thugs but you can't really disagree with the concept of someone who posesses an ex military water cannon and fires army surplus custard at whalers from it.

Drivers on the phone face the slammer

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Not likely

I'll believe it when I see it, if an uninsured, unlicensed driver can get off with a £400 fine and 6 points for killing a cyclist (http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/topstories/display.var.1856546.0.learner_driver_walks_free_from_court.php) then I doubt anyone's going to be jailed for being on a mobile whilst iin charge of a vehicle.

Geminids warm up for annual light show

Having listened to my wife when she's on her great big bloody telescope (continuously pointing out constellations in the vain hope I'll be interested) reckon it's Easterly and I'd guess at about 35 degrees elevation or so (these are my approximations from her pointing the damn thing out to me).

BBC's iPlayer launches Christmas Day

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Hmmm

Any chance they'll release a version in divx or even a version of wmv I can actually play in my DVD player? I've got a USB slot in my DVD player and it'll play pretty much any format (except anything to do with macs) but because of the stupid bloody licensing on the iplayer WMV's they won't play even thought the player recognises them (and no, they won't convert to avi either).

As for 4OD, yep, I can't get it to install because the iPlayer install shafts it royally.

Windows Service Pack refuseniks offered temporary respite

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Because

"Why? The SP will only unpack itself to the drive with the most space, then installs to the Windows drive anyway. Also, if it bothers you that much, look up the commandline for extracting it manually (something like "SP.EXE /X"), run that, specify where you want it extracted, then run "update.exe" from the update folder in the folder where you extracted it."

I found a load of "Defender" crap on my D drive which refused to uninstall or delete, in the end I had to re-format the drive which isn't how I want my OS to work (or not work as the case may be), so now I just don't bother with the updates any more for fear of having to spend ages copying all of my data off onto different drives so I can remove a load of MS junk.

Lloyd
Thumb Down

All very well

but the reason I refuse to install the damn things is because they try to install on the drive that has the largest amount of disk space which is one that I don't want it to install from, if MS could sort their s**t out and just install on the Windows drive then I'd do it.

Um...

I'm using them and haven't had a problem yet (apart from BT with the phone line), I'm getting about 6mbps and a phone line for £20 a month compared to 1.5mbps, piss poor customer service and a line that dropped out continuously on Plus.net.

Oi Coward

"aluminium not aluminum" is incorrect, Sir Humphry Davy originally proposed the name alumium for the element, which was undiscovered at the time. He later changed the spelling to aluminum and it soon changed again to aluminium, so technically it should be called alumium as that was the initial naming but any of the 3 would do.

Police arrest Welsh counterfeit music threesome

Best Buy sells 'last Wii' twice

Nokia unleashes N82 smartphone multimedia computer

Lloyd
Thumb Up

Thank God for that

My N95 is really starting to get up my nose, the damn thing won't lock properly, every time the slider moves even slightly the phone unlocks. I unwittingly phoned 2 people whilst walking to the station this morning, if they'd made it like the N91 which has a lock button on the side it would've been a lot more useful.

Lily Allen 'in talks' to become Doctor Who's assistant

Nintendo confirms Wii DVD support coming

Tesco punts Xbox 360 bundle for £33.24

Lloyd
Thumb Down

Yep

Just had an email telling me my order's been cancelled (as has the rest of IT).

Lloyd
Thumb Up

To be fair

This doesn't look to be Tesco's fault, the same item was being touted on Virgin Megastore and Woolworths at the same price, it looks like whoever provided them the bundle info is at fault (at least the other 2 pulled it off within a couple of hours, Tesco kept it on for ages).

Surely by the same notion, people lacking basic grammatical skills such as using the word "their" as the posessive rather than the word "there" as you have should never be allowed to post comments?

But then, I concur, gambling of any sort is a tax on the stupid.

Clinton calls for Kyoto successor
