Solid state of fear: Euro boffins bust open SSD, Bitlocker encryption (it's really, really dumb)

Re: BBC Micro's FRAK! did a better job of encryption back in 1984.

I had a ripped off copy of that game with the bitmap of Frak! replaced by another similar phrase.

Re: Broadcasters penny pinching

For example: The remastered Star Trek original series. They broadcast the episodes on one of the cheap channels with compression artifacts obliterating them.

Even now I don't think any of the Sky channels are 1080p. 720p at most? The BBC were putting good quality broadcasts out but didn't they lower the horizontal resolution?

I'm not going to wait for broadcast sources. When I went 1080p I bought lots of blu-rays. I'll wait until there's media and equipment for 4k before I bother with the TV.

I thought I was being DDOSed. Turns out I'm not that important...

I switched off non delivery reports on my email servers a long time ago. I'm hopefully not backscattering anyone. It sounds filthy too! :)

I use software raid1 after more than one raid controller failure in the past. Hopefully fewer higher-capacity drives will run cooler and more reliably than the stack of 1TB and 2TB drives in my server currently.

OK, so we paid a bill late, but did BT have to do this?

Pugwash69

I have to contact BT so often. I don't even get the browser warning, I usually find no web pages will open like the DNS server has failed. It's only when I try the BT web site I realise what's up. I try to pay it online straight away, but of course I can't use my card because the "verified by visa" site is also blocked.

If I phone them up it's usually a circus of passing-the-buck whilst they decide who will take the block off my account.

idiots

In 1986 I'm pretty certain I was sat in my bedroom learning to program on a BBC Micro. I had my own colour TV and my mate used to come around and play on the computer in the evenings.

I'd rather kids were social online than bedroom recluses like I was.
