But why didn't FF warn me after the install?
I agree with Mozilla's actions here but why didn't FireFox warn me that a plugin was installed without my specific consent? Surely installing things silently is how a lot of malware ends up on peoples machines, and therefore some mitigation can be had through warning users that the configuration has changed through non-action of the user.
Why is this not a serious assault?
If a lady was assaulted in a similar manner there would be a major investigation and it would be treated very seriously but as it's a man being assaulted by multiple women that seems less serious?
That said, I don't think I'd report it either, and probably make sure I use the same route on my bike every day....
Am I right in saying this?
I have a feeling the reason some sites don't work in IE8 is that they are detecting that it's Internet Explorer and saying 'oh shit we'd better stuff in these IE hacks' which in turn dick around with the rendering in IE8 because it doesn't need the hacks.
So wonderful, now we'll need to put in an anti-hack hack for IE8...weeeeeeeeee
Unsure about NOSCRIPT
Had an odd thing the other day possibly linked with this. I couldn't open FF, said it was already running. Checked the processes and sure enough there it was but no visible instance. Killed the process and we were back in business. Sounds similar to how this exploit operates but I didn't notice anything odd with the clipboard, that said I can't recall if I used the clipboard.
Stranger still, I run NOSCRIPT and this still appears to keep FF running, although maybe it didn't hijack my clipboard....
Patching, what's wrong with patching?
I have a couple of MS Windows and Linux boxes, ALL need patches applied from time to time. In fact I'd argue my Linux boxes ask for more patching than the MS ones. It's the way with computing, we understand things aren't perfect and we live with patching as a result. I don't like it but I live with it. To say that switching to Linux will solve your patching woes is both deluded and some other word I can't think of at the moment but I'm sure there is another one.
