Blackberry were arguably the first to have them built into the phone (you could also get those flashing dangely things that worked off the phone signal pickup back in the days of dumb phones) and Android phones like the Moto G have it too. I don't think any winphones have it yet, well at least the nokia range don't. Though this really doesn't bother me with my 520!
Re: Is this the review of a camera or a phone?
Here maps is the best satnav I have used, are you sure you are using a windows phone? Syncing to MS cloud is nice, not seen any random battery usage and my mail for our standard SMTP server worked without a hitch. You shouldn't be using your phone while driving so locking screens shouldn't be a problem while you drive! also use the right search button, the one on the device goes to bing though the one within the apps menu searches apps.
Just to point out I live near and use the M62 frequently and my 520 hasn't failed me on a journey yet, en-fact my wife nicks my phone to go to work sometimes cause she dislikes the satnavs available on her iPhone!
Re: er, specs?
Being a Win 8 phone the battery life shouldn't be too bad. My 520 lasts for ever, normal use I can get about 2.5 days out of it, my work iPhone struggles with 1!
Re: An opportunity to vote with your wallet...
Actually aren't they all signed to "Indie" record labels? I think Dion and Byonce may have been with Sony for a time though left for Columbia and Beiber is on Jay Z's is he not?
So you wouldn't get those 3. You would be left largely with older records and manufactured bands for those labels.
Re: not password protected?
@Archivist. As a Windows 8 user it is tied to my Microsoft account, and required a login every time either Bio or password, so actually may be more common than you think that people get login screens now.
Re: Watch the lawsuites fly...
Windows 8 actually does have your Onedrive as a drive basically, works well too I have a Lumia and when I take a photo it automatically goes to Onedrive, really easy way of doing cloud storage I think! For general usage 2GB of storage is fine, as for sharing I have shared some videos from the Xbox online easily along with some photos with friends.
Re: New IP?
Hey they might branch out and try aligning blocks to make words!
Re: Hello... is anyone out there?
If you are based in the UK then if you can let me know your company name then I will look for your account and contact you directly to resolve this one for you.
As for security the agent only transmits basic information required for monitoring and this is sent though https. The file is KB in size.
Please don't paint us all with that brush! though sorry for the previous experience. I am on the GFI sales team though within the MSP "MAX" product range based in Dundee, cloud is really well received though if you are looking for something to manage clients as a support company instead of end users within your organisation you want GFIMAX Remote management, Cloud was built to be the "Sys admin" MAXRM.
Re: It's not my birthday today!
Why would you celebrate a company failing so much? If it is the gamer angle then seriously as a xbox owner and live user for a good 9/10 years I want Sony to succeed because if they fail and it is just Microsoft in the mainstream console industry then gamers will get screwed over royally.
Re: When are they going to get it in their thick skulls...
Got to admit, Win 8 on a touch device is a nice experience, just the store badly needs apps. Having moved from my many years of using Android on my personal phone and having an iPhone for work when I moved to a Nokia 520 I don't think I will look back at Android as Win 8 feels fluid and runs much better than my Android phones ever had!
So when it gets a fault will you be driving it wrong?
Re: "none of them have had any security problems"
The single best way to keep a network secure is to keep EVERTHING up to date, if you cannot update the OS then you will very quickly have a site full of security holes, it will just be a matter of time till you are compromised (if you aren't already)
Security threats nowadays don't scream out, they hide and do not want to be found. AV alone will not keep your machines safe
Re: Why I "bought" an Iphone when my HTC went tits up
I think your problem was buying HTC, they are quite poor build quality wise, I would say though that iPhone was not the only choice for high end smart phone. When my HTC Desire died on me I had a look around and picked up the Nokia 520, I really like it, runs nicely and the apps work well, overall I may be a bit of a windows phone convert.
I used to have an iPhone for work and after countless "Called Failed" messages when swapping from 3G to edge or not having at least 3 bars I was glad to be rid of it
Re: Windows Phone vs. iPhone
I have to admit I am the same, having used Android now since like 2009 and having used a host of devices and having a Nexus 7, my HTC bit the dust and I only have about 6 months left on my contract so I decided to buy a 520 outright and get a cheaper contract on renewal or if I hated Win8 go back to android however even with my investment I have to admit I really like the 520 and I am even considering upgrading to the 920 come renewal!
All in all I am impressed with the windows phone offerings it is a very smooth OS though it could do with a few more apps
Give nokia a try. I have to say considering the power in my Lumia 520 it feels like the smoothest and most fluid phone i have used to date and I have had both android and apple phones
While a fantastic idea, would 100 mil be enough for even the underground base (never mind the monorail+ninjas!)
Re: They don't want independance
And what happens when you need to fund things like an IT infrastructure and military to name but 2.
Working for a Vendor sales team I represent that comment! So how are you doing with our product today!
Answer me this, can you do any of that with Steam? the 1 day thing I agree was too short, 14 days to a month would be fine. A purely digital market place would hopefully see game prices come down significantly much like they did on Steam and have on Origin!
People not wanting to take the step forward into the digital age has put us back 10 years. You think physical media for gaming will last past this gen? I certainly don't think it will
Re: re: like the otherOS stuff
I never even owned a PS3, so I don't miss it I am just saying while Microsoft may not be the best, Sony don't exactly smell of roses here and are well known for their love of DRM.
As for the Kinnect, I got one for my 360 and it is great fun, will be looking forward to what happens with the new version especially once my little boy gets bigger and can use it too.
Noone is likely to rock the boat right at release, knowing Sony this kind of stuff will be snook in once the PS4 is sittled, like the Other OS stuff.
Mine was pre-ordered on the day I could do it! Day 1 edition too! Shame they turned round on the always online thing, was looking forward to being able to digitally sell games and borrow digital games from friends.
Let me take my stance on this, I am on the fence. Sure he stole material and released it for whatever his reasons may be this is espionage and theft HOWEVER, it was also the act of a whistleblower showing the wrong doings of the government. A tricky situation indeed, He should serve however the credit for what he has already endured should be much higher.
Being fair, 35 years (33 after the reduction) from 90 is actually not to bad. He will get out of prison in his life time this way!
Re: Too late for me
It's funny how people will be running to Sony with there oh so perfect track record when it comes to their customers. Oh wait I forgot Sony are worse than Microsoft when it comes to DRM and screwing customers over.
As for double dipping Sony will be charging to use online services with the PS4 too
Re: My heart bleeds
I am quite sure you have used her ilks services on more than one occasion as I certainly hope someone who defends bullies and thinks this is even close to acceptable never leaves there mothers basement!
If you don't feed the troll they tend to die off from starvation
The point you seem to miss though is that Samsung did attempt to licence FRAND for a reasonable price, to with Apple said sod you and didn't pay instead attempting to take them to court
Re: I concur, however...
sneaky s got in there! and i think you meant "mean"
Am I the only one who is actually looking forward to the new star wars movies? they have been handed over to a company that in general makes descent films!
Sure they will be aimed at a younger audience though that didn't hurt Pirates of the Caribbean or most the Marvel movies. I will await them being released before I pass judgement
Re: why the downvote?
well actually Nikola Tesla was working on a tower that would provide electricity to the world and was stopped simply because he couldn't fund this and the electricity companies released they couldn't actually charge for it either!
Edison actually tried hard to discredit Tesla a number of times, he actually told the US military that a particular invention of his had no practical use (Radar!!!)
If only Edison wasn't a total arse we would all have wireless power now!!!
Re: Get rid of images of people
I say get Turing on there! then we can have 2 queens on 1 note!
Re: Fuck them.
Don't forget this weeks PS3 patch that bricked machines! oh and you want Sony to fix it? thats £80 please!
Re: Oh, this old chestnut
You mean like you can with Android?
Re: Well done Sony.
The Xbox one idea of digital sales limited resale ect could go 2 ways.
Positive:- we get a "Steam" type offering with lower cost games and great sales with some pro owned market style stuff on both our Physical and Digital titles, and lets face it will that be different on the Steam box when that comes out?
Negative:- we get gouged and have to pay £50+ for games we cannot resale.
If the forma happens it could be good for Microsoft and us gamers and lets face it who in general doesn't like steam? Or the Latter that could end badly for Microsoft
Re: Sonic Screwdriver
My comment was to the sonic screwdriver comment. If you watch Dr Who you know that the sonic screwdriver cannot open a "Deadlocked" lock
Re: Sonic Screwdriver
This is why you should dead lock the car!
Re: Used games
Almost my entire game collection is used, and CEX has managed to build a very successful chain of stores JUST selling used games, so I would say a good amount, even places like Asda and Tesco now sell 2nd hand games!
Re: @Hairy Spod
Also on Steam brand new titles come out for significantly less AND they have awesome sales. Will we see 75% reduction on games for this? No, they will still be £45+
Re: Baby steps
I am all for the blocking of illegal sites, though last time I checked it wasn't yet illegal to look at porn
So with this coming into play, how long until the Great British Firewall is setup? Does the automatic blocking of content not go against some European legislation or even human rights somewhere?
Re: To be fair to MS...
Android has not "Won" the mobile war, it is just the current market leader in total volume, Apple still make the lions share of the profits (eroding though I am sure) and as like with Apple someone could come out with some good software and a compelling reason to get peoples attention and do the exact same as Android did to Apple to Android
Re: Desktops will never disappear
Desktops will be around for a long time still, it is laptops that tablets will replace. The desktop will still be a main work device/ proper gaming device, with your "Lapblet being the portable consumption device.
May I just point out that is would actually be pronounced JIF in the English language since the G is followed by a I as in Giraffe.
Most mid range Sim free phones would be that expensive, high end phones are more than double that price, for example the S4 is almost £600!
on a contract you could get that for free on some of the lower tariffs.
My Nexus 7 has a keyboard case, no need for a mouse really though with the touch screen though you could use one
