might be a cooincidence, but just had a call where an old nas box disconnected for no reason. turns out to be because it uses smb v1, and since yesterday, it hasnt worked. fix is to enable smb v1 in windows components (and also possibly check for ms client in network adaptor, turn off ipv6 and enable netbios over tcpip).
probably caused by recent win 10 patch
ok, fair enough, a small number of people have fttp...that must be lovely actually!
red bren - you are definitely onto something there!
although, they are getting the speed advertised. "up to" x Mb/s.
0.1 is "up" to 1 million under those terms.
that they are allowed to sell it under those conditions is outrageous though.
one of my customer has two infinity lines. (fttc).
he gets, absolute max, on either, 14 down and 1 up. this is when there is a fair wind, it is a tuesday, there an ascendant armadillo in uranus and all his neighbours are on holiday.
you cant bond, because it all goes to shit, theres just not enough wiggle room on the upload, particularly when it sits at 100k like it does most of the time. and even if we bond 4 lines, its still 4 x shit. ive tried it, it doesn't work.
the problem is that the copper (possibly alumiium) is buried in the road, not even in conduit.
cant run over poles as there arent any.
he was quoted £26k (just construction costs, then £400 per month for the service) to run fibre as a leased line.
gonna try 4g next
no, not really.
no-one gets fttp that i have ever heard of (residential anyway)
its, at best, fttc. then the last leg is copper, aluminium etc. they wont replace the last leg with fibre.
and adding a new contract is not going to be as expensive as fixing the problem. (i.e. lay at least new copper)
and, also, who would bother to coordinate a campaign of a load of neighbours to do all this every few months??
cant see it myself.
it'll be some apple twat who is secretly really pissed off that he has to buy stupid expensive wireless headphones, loses them constantly, and has a shit apple phone that he paid a fortune for because he is obsessed with apple, and they can do no wrong.
i cant upvote you enough.
big fuck off removable battery
waterproof
sd slot.
(actually, a decent camera too please)
thats it. just make one already before my note 4 dies
unless you add value to a product, simply selling someone else's stuff is going to be a non starter.
if i am buying a thing, and i have done my internet research and decided i want thing model b456 then i dont care where i buy it from, i already know what i want to buy, so i'll buy it from the cheapest place / place with best return policy (currently amazon or john lewis by a loooong way).
there are very few shops now where anyone actually knows anything about what they sell. they have rent, business rates, power, staff overheads etc, for which a warehouse full of the same things does not to the same extent.
so you either have to be a VAR or be able to operate at massively reduced profits or go bust. this is already happening and i cant see it changing really.
thanks tonyj, much appreciated.
and yes, a downvote for asking for advice. could have been dr syntax as i cant be arsed to capitalise or use ' for forums...and as we all know, this is akin to being a nazi! i mean really....anyways....and dont mention downvotes! you will get downvoted! like this post will be. and then your life will END man, it will fucking END! a downvote! oh ! no! aaarghjhhh! the world is full of fucking narcissists... when you've got 2 kids and a mortgage, and another mortgage, and a roofer that you are sueing, a business to run.and learnign German. i mean, its not as bad as a post you put on facebook that doesnt get any likes. thats real death of the soul there. proper tears. jesus. ffs. oooh.
unless its the russians. russian trolls, right here! on the reg! bastards!
ahem. anyway.
i think i will steer clear of own cloud then! thanks for the heads up.
not even heard of sea file. will google....
Muchly appreciated Sir.
davidp231 is 100% correct. the key OEMs actually use (so if you recover it using produkey or similar) to instal windows will not activate using an oem windows disk. you have to have the key on the coa, its different to the (vlk im assuming) key actually used to install windows by the manufacturer.
in the uk if you do self assessment, and they reckon you will have reasonably large bill for the next year, you have to make payments on account up front for next years taxes, as well as the year you are in.
ok, so once its rolling, its not too bad, but it was a bit of a shocker for me last year, i had to find a not inconsiderable sum of money in 10 days (as you have to pay most of it by jan 31st). i then forgot i had to make another payment in june and got told off for forgetting, which is fair enough i suppose....
completely possible. i had a machine in not so long ago. it had a powercool 550 watt psu in it.
the sata power cables were melted, it absolutely stank, the inside of the case had black smoke / scorch marks on it, the sata connectors for the dvd-rw and SSD were burnt to a crisp, they fell to bits in an avalanche of disgusting, smelly, acrid burnt plastic.
i think what had happened was a layer of dust and crud had built up on one of the sata power connectors over time. its one of the ones that isnt fully moulded, it had little blanks removed on the back of the connector. (for testing the voltage i suppose?). the sata connector was really tight up against the chassis, a mm ish away.
i think the whole thing shorted through the crud buildup against the case.
I didn't believe the customer when they told me what had happened, but after seeing it, i was converted. quite spectacular by all accounts when it happened. I'm not sure about massive flames and flying debris across a whole room, but enough to scare the shit out of you. and 30 years ago, PSU's were indeed very different. (for different read "absolute dog shit"), so yeah, why not.
i now make sure all the psu's i buy dont have those little blanks taken out own the back of the power connectors..... corsair cx 550m's these days.
