Server installer fails to spot STOP button – because he wasn't an archaeologist

Mr_Flibble

I used to look after equipment in the tallest building in our town.

To gain access to it you had to get the lift to the top floor then walk up some stairs into a very dark room with a light switch to the right in the dark.

Unfortunately the telco who also had equipment up there decided to put their main shutoff switch close to this switch.

I may of on occasion flicked the wrong switch.

I know this because when I returned I noticed the shut off switch had been moved far away from the light switch and no longer was easy to confuse in the dark for the light switch.

VMware president sees some 'anxiety' at customers who've seen Broadcom at work

Mr_Flibble

We are actively looking into alternate systems.

We have even already deployed the MS version to a customer in the wake of this and any future products and contracts have broadcom merger listed as a major risk of failure.

Outsourced techie gets 2-year sentence after trashing system of former client: 1,200 Office 365 accounts zapped

The number of clients that think they don't need backups because it is in the cloud is ridiculus.

Including an IT teacher that was the leading voice at a school for their IT roadpath.

Government waves cutlass at IT budget

Mr_Flibble

Actually

What costs a lot of money in government it is all the security regulations (half of them being pointless)

Being forced to use an internet connection (where a 2Mb link costs almost £100k)

Also in a lot of cases they will not use open source as they don't know anything about it, and if they don't know about it it's insecure.

So as usual red tape costs more money.

Ah Middlesbrough

Voted worse place to live in the uk.

One of the highest density of drug dealers in the uk.

Police unable to prosecute someone caught by them trying to remove my car stereo because it wasn't worth their time (it wasn't worth my time replacing the window in my car either).

Waiting 4 hours for a response after an attempted mugging.

And inability to actually send police officers to an incident that was in progress.

Although Grange road there is a pretty dodgy area so I'm not surprised he was arrested.

Skull and bones because the place is a toxic wasteland.

BitTorrent site Demonoid.com downed by Canadian record industry

Mr_Flibble

Canada

The same Canada that have stupid levies placed on recordable media.

The same Canada where it is not illegal to download copyright material because of aformentioned levies.

The same Canada that the industry wants to change the law up the levies and give nothing back.

Sony says no to Euro PS3 price cut

Mr_Flibble

Pay for this ???

Last time I was tied down treated unfairly and charged for it I was in Amsterdam.

Really who would want to pay for it ?

Half of our network services won't run on it.

We have already stopped buying Sony viao laptops because it has it on.

Thanks but no thanks I have enough problems.

That and now even games designed for it can be cracked I have even less reason to use it.
