It's not AI. It's not intelligent. It knows nothing about what it's looking at. It's statistics based on zero understanding of what's being presented to it.
Lighter faces show greater contrast to what's around them than darker faces. So lighter faces will probably be more noticeable to a dumb statistical model that knows nothing about its subject.
The last time I saw facial recognition the service was pretty certain that the subject was wearing glasses. He wasn't. He had more shadows around his eyes because of the overhead lighting. A dumb statistical model would say there's more dark in that area of the image, so it's probably glasses. A human would see shadow on a human face and no glasses. Just like a human would be able to recognise that Elton John's facial adornments were glasses if it had never seen anything like them before.
If we continue trying to stop global temperatures from rising, then how will we bring about re-greening of the Sahara?
It's only due to the relatively low temperatures that the trade winds blow away from the Sahara, rather than blowing warm, moist air towards the Sahara...
With all the fuss (from the idle commenterai) about the noughties, the teens and the relief of being in the twenties - a sensibly-named decade - I couldn't help but wonder that this is only a recent phenomenon.
What culture in history would be some disposability-obsessed as to name its decades?
