Yes I am prone to violent compulsions at pure badly implemented and outright stupidity - and yes I have had the wave of Voice Dictation systems that flowed down the pipe and seemed to have disappeared......
Forever retraining the fucking programs to recognise speech...
It ended up being just easier to ignore them and not use the dictate to text functions....

Telstra in Australia (a royal Fuck YOU) use voice recognition in the directory assistance.... at least while your prepared to be stupid enough to engage with it.......

IF I actually have to call that shit hole of ineptitude (Telstra's directory assistance), I use a hands free phone, put it on the desk, I stay silent for the minute or so for the system to bypass all the automated bullshit, and wait till I can talk to a real person.
So unless the voice recognition systems really become consistently accurate and very sensitive to the nuances of human variations and subtleties - and run at 99.999% accuracy, the brain finger interface will be the final filtering and input system for some time to come.
Of course people tend to resent running at 99.999% accuracy also as well.

I am comparatively ignorant about the proxy server issue.... sort of.
My main grips is the oversaturation of advertising that people do not want or need, being incessantly shoved in our fucking faces all the time.
This irritates me on several counts.....
1. I own a pushbike... and I am very happy with that. Therefore:
a) Stuffing adds in my face for cars irritates me - because.
b) I don't want to see the fucking adds, and
c) I don't want to buy a fucking car.
This purchasing to meet my modest needs only, extends to every plethora of gear used in advertising.
There is also the saturation advertising.....
It's like the local shop keepers...
They have Frontage for their own advertising above the shop awnings. They have the edge of the veranda to stick their own advertising on. They have the big shop windows to stick their own advertising on.
They then extend their advertising out of their space and into the public space, by sticking sandwich boards on the foot path for the passing foot traffic.
They then stick MORE of their own advertising, on their own sandwich boards out between the parking bays and the main road.....
(which I complained about - because after a car pulled in to park and another reversed out and I nearly ran into one of the signs - and it's a fucking road, not a empty lot.)
And they also advertise themselves and their wares in the "Proudly supported by" sections...... and in the local news papers.... and mailouts, and the reach has become sort of all pervasive.
Even the Hollywood scum with their "Hollywood accounting" never float a movie unless it has a ton of product placements in them....
Well the main thrust of my case is that the ONLY advertising that is really appropriate, is the advertising of the products or services, on the site of the people who are supplying them.
This assumed right to shove endless amounts of advertising, in peoples faces, at all times, about all things, has gone from something like "the shop keepers, advertising their own services from their own premises", into a fucking plague of advertising.
And many of the advertisers are stupid fucking human beings..... sticking flashing adds in the middle of columns of text..... "Like OH Duh - lets piss off the readers SO much, that they either leave and never come back or they are finally driven into looking for ways to block the adds....."
Then they whine about the loss of readers....
Fucking idiots.
Then you get the adds that slide up or down the sides of the screen, or in from the side of the page, or the pop up layer adds that cover / block the whole page, that you have to click on to get rid of.....
And the fucking arseholes at google, they just don't get it - shoving 10,000 adds a day in peoples faces for shit they generally don't want or need, simply wastes their time, and it's an annoyance.
Much of it is outright stupid.... It's a fucking plague of advertising....
They searches are filled with adds. They have adds in the search results, as well as the search results, they put adds in the Gmail, they put adds in the Youtube, they put in adds about buying adds as adds......
I have read news papers from 200 years ago, and they SOLD the news, where the content of the paper was the news, and there was about 10% of the page space used on adds.
Now news papers have like 90% of their total space used for adds, and they generally have skimpy low IQ stories about stupid brainless bullshit, or the sensationalist headline grabbers - and the spectator sport crap of politics.
And even the most clueless of readers are saying, "There is nothing but shit in them - not worth reading."
Anyway, without Add Block Plus, and Element Hiding helper for Add Block Plus, Flash Block etc., and a few other things....
I would not even come to this site...
But the idiots who run Google, there may indeed be legitimate technical reasons for crunching add blocking in android - but if they were allowed to run rampant - as they have, for every ONE person who becomes so irritated that they go and hunt out and install Add Block Plus and Element Hiding Helper and Flash Block etc., there are probably another 50 people who are seriously irritated by all the adds, and there are probably other 50 other people who simply refuse to use the internet much at all.
Google is like the shop owners who have gone from the sandwich board on the sides of the street, to putting plaquards in the front yard, and signs on your house walls, and then a free interior wall papering as well....
Stickers on your TV screen, labels in the toilet bowl, advertising screen printed on your curtains....

It's a funny sort of a mix...
The more "anyone can make this" like the early series of Dr Who, shopping trolley wheels and cardboard sets.. the more the people seem to like it...
But the better it gets with CGI, the more amazing it is, and the more sort of more disconnected it becomes from people being able to do it.
I think the shift is from participating, or a realistic ability to do so, and then to spectating......

a) I became uninterested with the whole Ubuntu thing when it started to go "Unity" and I dumped it for the Xfce desktop.
b) I like normal small basic mobile phones, as I figure that smart phones are more pain than arse...
You can't type fuck all on them and the screen is really small....
c) I figure that if I want to type or do movies etc., get a REAL computer, or if I want to make phone calls, get a real mobile phone...
But
d) Mixing them into the one thing is stupid bullshit.
And
e) Putting the Unity interface on them is neither one thing or the other to me.
f) But getting a little ACER netbook, kind of fills all my needs....
Not much hard core computing brains - but it's great for MOST things.
Setting it up to make phone calls, with a head set - seems to offer some promise but this may be exceeding the capabilites of the software and hardware....
And it has a real keyboard....

A couple months ago, the Planet Money folks did a great episode explaining how this works in very simple terms. The really, really, really simplified version is that Hollywood sets up a separate corporation for each movie with the intent that this corporation will take on losses. The studio then charges the "film corporation" a huge fee (which creates a large part of the "expense" that leads to the loss). The end result is that the studio still rakes in the cash, but for accounting purposes the film is a money "loser" -- which matters quite a bit for anyone who is supposed to get a cut of any profits.
For example, a bunch of you sent in the example of how Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, under "Hollywood accounting," ended up with a $167 million "loss," despite taking in $938 million in revenue.

If I were Peter, I wouldn’t direct any movie until I got paid for the previous one.
Hollywood Accounting is where the MPAA (insert big 6 assholes here) create a corporation for each movie, ie Lord of the Rings, LLC, and then purposely use that entity to numerically absorb money, and to reflect a loss by creatively making up numbers for advertisement, distribution, additional licensing and/or copyrights for the particular movie. They illegally and grossly bloat these numbers as ‘expenses’ for the Studio to allegedly ‘pay’ from the gross of the movie itself.
After ‘New Line Cinemas’ paid expenses to ‘Lord of the Rings, LLC’, there apparently just wasn’t enough money left to pay the director, or the estate of J.R. Tolkien, who owns the copyrights on the idea, and wrote the books. This ensures that stakeholders in the movie itself get the ’steak’ of the profits, whereas the entitled entities, like the writer, producer, rights holder, etc, are left with the ‘peas’, if that. Typically they only get to lick the plate after the fatcat assholes at the MPAA get their ill-gotten gains first.

The bill seeks to prevent studios from selling programming to sister companies for below market value. This particular strain of Hollywood accounting is designed to shift profits away from the studios (where they must be shared with talent and producers and serve as a basis for pension and health contributions) to networks, where they may be enjoyed without the pesky need to pay one's "partners."

I am comparatively ignorant about the proxy server issue.... sort of.
My main grips is the oversaturation of advertising that people do not want or need, being incessantly shoved in our fucking faces all the time.
This irritates me on several counts.....
1. I own a pushbike... and I am very happy with that. Therefore:
a) Stuffing adds in my face for cars irritates me - because.
b) I don't want to see the fucking adds, and
c) I don't want to buy a fucking car.
This purchasing to meet my modest needs only, extends to every plethora of gear used in advertising.
There is also the saturation advertising.....
It's like the local shop keepers...
They have Frontage for their own advertising above the shop awnings. They have the edge of the veranda to stick their own advertising on. They have the big shop windows to stick their own advertising on.
They then extend their advertising out of their space and into the public space, by sticking sandwich boards on the foot path for the passing foot traffic.
They then stick MORE of their own advertising, on their own sandwich boards out between the parking bays and the main road.....
(which I complained about - because after a car pulled in to park and another reversed out and I nearly ran into one of the signs - and it's a fucking road, not a empty lot.)
And they also advertise themselves and their wares in the "Proudly supported by" sections...... and in the local news papers.... and mailouts, and the reach has become sort of all pervasive.
Even the Hollywood scum with their "Hollywood accounting" never float a movie unless it has a ton of product placements in them....
Well the main thrust of my case is that the ONLY advertising that is really appropriate, is the advertising of the products or services, on the site of the people who are supplying them.
This assumed right to shove endless amounts of advertising, in peoples faces, at all times, about all things, has gone from something like "the shop keepers, advertising their own services from their own premises", into a fucking plague of advertising.
And many of the advertisers are stupid fucking human beings..... sticking flashing adds in the middle of columns of text..... "Like OH Duh - lets piss off the readers SO much, that they either leave and never come back or they are finally driven into looking for ways to block the adds....."
Then they whine about the loss of readers....
Fucking idiots.
Then you get the adds that slide up or down the sides of the screen, or in from the side of the page, or the pop up layer adds that cover / block the whole page, that you have to click on to get rid of.....
And the fucking arseholes at google, they just don't get it - shoving 10,000 adds a day in peoples faces for shit they generally don't want or need, simply wastes their time, and it's an annoyance.
Much of it is outright stupid.... It's a fucking plague of advertising....
They searches are filled with adds. They have adds in the search results, as well as the search results, they put adds in the Gmail, they put adds in the Youtube, they put in adds about buying adds as adds......
I have read news papers from 200 years ago, and they SOLD the news, where the content of the paper was the news, and there was about 10% of the page space used on adds.
Now news papers have like 90% of their total space used for adds, and they generally have skimpy low IQ stories about stupid brainless bullshit, or the sensationalist headline grabbers - and the spectator sport crap of politics.
And even the most clueless of readers are saying, "There is nothing but shit in them - not worth reading."
Anyway, without Add Block Plus, and Element Hiding helper for Add Block Plus, Flash Block etc., and a few other things....
I would not even come to this site...
But the idiots who run Google, there may indeed be legitimate technical reasons for crunching add blocking in android - but if they were allowed to run rampant - as they have, for every ONE person who becomes so irritated that they go and hunt out and install Add Block Plus and Element Hiding Helper and Flash Block etc., there are probably another 50 people who are seriously irritated by all the adds, and there are probably other 50 other people who simply refuse to use the internet much at all.
Google is like the shop owners who have gone from the sandwich board on the sides of the street, to putting plaquards in the front yard, and signs on your house walls, and then a free interior wall papering as well....
Stickers on your TV screen, labels in the toilet bowl, advertising screen printed on your curtains....

Yeah in a country some several parsecs long and wide, they keep them handy in a place that is as remote to all other exchanges as they can be.
And while it's a trailer mounted module, I doubt that they will ever go to the effort of airlifting any of them, to places that have the roads cut by flooding etc..
So 4 days 24/7 driving to the far north west..... and when we get to about half way there, we can stop and then camp by the side of a flooded river for 6 weeks...
And while the customers try to ring us every day for the while 7 or 8 weeks, we of course (Telstra) will have no record of their calls - because the phones are not working! "Perfect!"
In the meantime, we will charge them line AND phone rental, and when they want to dispute the bill we will say, "While the contract does say we are responsible for the lines from your house to the exchange, it says nothing about there not being an exchange, or even one that does not work - so all you customers owe us $2797 in call out fees."

Yeah and LibreOffice and Open Office DO not have FONT EMBEDDING either...
Despite the relative merits of the software, if you use any one of the 200,000 other fonts in the english world, in your work, besides the 50 or so in the "Libre Office" suite, your work immediately becomes NON transferrable to any other machine without those font's, your work is NOT of an archival grade etc., etc., etc.
The committees - the Free Software Foundation, and Libre Office and the almost expired Open Office, are full of shit.
Without FONT EMBEDDING - the product, commercially, educationally and more or less beyond just personally, it is utterly WORTHLESS.
And the numbskulls on these committees just don't get it.
