Re: Now I hate Win 8 as much as the next man
KDE4 + Cairo Dock + Compiz 0.8.8 (Kwin is shit and Compiz 0.9.x is a mess) gives me the ideal desktop as you get both the best of Mac and Windows worlds with a huge amount of customization possibilities.
NOT metro is just downright awful to use or DT & KB users.
Then install Linux distribution of choice or Windows 7.
Re: PEEK dammit.
Er SAP runs on more than windows you know.
Re: Linux et al :Dave 126
Millions of people are using Linux everyday even though they do not know it. Your router, Android, most of the internet backbone, your TV, tills, most mainframes etc. English is English and French is French, they are both languages but achieve things in different ways.
Give Opensuse a try (my own favourite) as it supports 1-click install.
If MS go the Apple route
Then it's a gift to Linux (or Linux derivative).
No wifi in this day and age makes it a dinosaur. Nearly there but not quite.
Re: Shocker @mark
Given the kicking that MS gave Linux complete with dirty tricks it would be just deserts if wp8 fell flat on it's arse.
Who would of thought it ?
Microsoft selling Linux. It had to happen one day ;)
We told you so
Secure boot was only ever about trying to stop Linux and introduce TPM style DRM and nothing to do with stopping nasties.
Being Using Since 12.2 RC2
So far my experiences have all been very positive and I haven't run into any horrible show stoppers. Very fast and stable.
A couple of points to note though are:
1) If you upgrade to KDE 4.9 then be prepared for your dolphin places panel to NOT automatically resize. This is a KDE feature removal by the KDE devs, fuck knows why ?
2) Auto-mounting of internal hard disks in KDE is still a problem (since 11.4) as you still need to enter your root password to mount the drives after every login unless you create fstab entries or modify this file:
I'm with Linus T here on some of the Suse devs over paranoid approach to polkit
"I was under the impression that the Prometheus effect was getting something really, really great (fire) and then having your liver pecked out by crows for the rest of your life as a punishment?"
It has an entirely different meaning if you have seen Ridley Scott's load of crap.
Give me an Ultrabook with Secureboot turned off
Then I will be able to put whatever the hell I like on it.
Re: How would you like your smartphone?
Must have the next version of android, Baked Alaska
Re: Die, flash, die
Ah the blue video experience.
The Assholes at Adobe cocked up the colour frame information ordering for Nvidia VDPAU in 11.2 - you must have an Nvidia card to see this and hardware acceleration on.
This is fixed in Google Chrome using 11.3 and pepper (PAPPI) but not for the Firefox folks (NPAPI) as you are stuck on 11.2 forever. There is an ugly hack to fix the blue experience but I can't be arsed applying it.
PS agree die flash, die.
Anyone know if this will support USB on the go, i.e external USB storage via the mini USB.
Be interesting to know if it can be used with a 3G USB (with a bit of hacking) ?
On the whole I think this is a good device (on paper) but a disappointment that there is no SD slot.
If there was a reason to sack Ballmer
Then this is a very good reason why. This will tank.
Re: Help the underdog - then kill them
12.4 and 10.4 ?
Ahhhh syntax error !
That's just brought our brand new rocket launch down because someone forgot a 0 !
Oh Really ?
Looks like MS are up to their old SCO tricks here using a third party. Seems to me your missing the simple situation here.
