Iran: Sorry for the Gmail blockade – we were trying to block YouTube

"Iran has long harboured ambitions to develop a home-grown version of the internet that is free of any content deemed un-Islamic or otherwise undesirable."

i will simplify that, that would be about 99.99999999999% of content on the internet would be undesirable.

sad problem with that is for 20% reduction in MPG which is end result of corn based and its only 10% cheaper then good old petrol. So really most ppl won't even bother using it. only biofuel that has shown to be competitive in MPG is sugerkane version used in brazil.

Fans rap Apple's 'crap' Map app

Re: yea

like i said above, how many years it took google to get their maps to the level they are and well money is not much issue for apple, but took google years to get high rez images of some area's. Its not a cheap and done in a month thing

cyke1
Trollface

only reason google's map app will stay as an option on app store is all the disgusted over how bad apple's is atm, give apple time, the day they believe their maps can compete decently google's is day they kill off google map app.

cyke1

Re: Native Google maps

they could ban the app from their store and pretty much won't let you install it less phone is unlocked. sadly its something apple would do, i put money on it

cyke1
FAIL

yea

Apple tried to do in months what took google years and 10's if not hundreds of millions of dollars to do. to list all those street's landmarks and on most roads in town's and citys have pictures from the google car. Heck even now google is doing in inside view of places. Google has such a major lead on this would take 5+ years for apple to catch up to even come remotely close.

iPhone 5 to boost US GDP says JP Morgan

Depends on what is new in the iphone, if larger screen and LTE are all they add I don't see some ppl even wasting $ on it when they can get as good of phone from samsung and most already have.

'This lawsuit is not about patents or money, it's about values'

Re: about values?

if you want to talk about knock-off's the Iphone looked almost identical to a device Samsung announced in 2006, and rlsed in like jan 2007 like 8 months before iphone was even announced or released.

cyke1

Re: flapple

its not a permanent win, The judge can throw out the jury verdict or Samsung has the appeal route.

to quote an article from groklaw, After we debated that first patent -- what was prior art --because we had a hard time believing there was no prior art, that there wasn't something out there before Apple. "In fact we skipped that one," Ilagan continued, "so we could go on faster. It was bogging us down. ... "Once you determine that Samsung violated the patents," Ilagan said, "it's easy to just go down those different [Samsung] products because it was all the same." Pretty much was death of that verdict in my mind, cause that quote made it look like they completely dumped prior art as even possible to kill the patent as even being valid.

cyke1
FAIL

about values?

Ha anyone with a brains and can read a web page, you can see Samsung was whooping apples ass in about every market. Apple has failed to innovate their phones for years and Samsung has caught up and has a better phone. Apples only recourse is a lawsuit using their home town jury to steer the verdict in apple's favor. Sad part is they talked about how they did and now everyone see's the jury was joke by throwing out clear prior art to give apple more money. This case was never about values, it was about money and getting Samsung's phones off the market. Plane and simple.

Samsung fights to stay on US shelves as Apple calls for ban

cyke1

Re: The Verge just listed the models Apple is aiming for

originally all samsung phones were on the filing but the judge said no there was to many on there and apple had to slim down the list.

cyke1

eh

the phones apple went after or had to go after in the trial when judge said shorten the list were all old phones, only handful at best are even still available to get in the US. Ones that are, you get them dirt cheap to free so loss is pretty much nothing to Samsung. You know if Apple tries to go after samsung again it will be in same court since that area is biased in favor of apple since most people around there know someone that works for apple, that or their business gets a lot of apple employee's in their stores.

Apple's lone wolf approach to security will bite it in the rear

cyke1

Re: Back on topic.

Um if you didn't notice it already has, look back at flashback virus, MS had a fix for it within a day of it being announced in the wild, took Apple 2 months to release the fix for it. But in the end the biggest security flaw in the OS is the user at the keyboard. Windows users know what can happen very easy to your computer and are proactive most the time to fight it. Apple users on other hand mostly think their machine is just secure and not at risk for anything. Apple for longest time had on their website "we don't get virus" crap on their website, that is gone now.

Re: "Hadopi has not fulfilled its mission of developing legal downloads"

Does it really surprise anyone they didn't? I mean this piracy war in question been going on since 2000 when Napster was sued. In 12+ years they still havn't gotten with the times, and its only a matter of time before these companies fail.

cyke1
FAIL

what i think is missed in all this

"Under the Hadopi law, which was introduced in 2009, alleged copyright infringers are identified by their internet service providers (ISPs) and will be reported to a judge once they have received three warnings."

Um what I believe is missed, as a recent Judge in the US has ruled that an IP don't identify a person. The person that gets fined that 1500 eur might just be some poor sucker that got his wireless hacked or computer infected with a Trojan.

Rivals routed by Apple, Google smartphone onslaught

Copyright bot boots NASA rover vid off YouTube

cyke1
FAIL

truely sad part

People that make their own video completely original that becomes massively popular, some companies will submit a bogus copyright claim on them and select the ad's option to get ad's on the video so they can profit from it. But yea there needs to be some type of penalty for bogus claims, once ok it happens but when it happens repeatably then said company should be forking over some money or lose its axx to remove video without review by youtube.

HP and Dell to 'unveil Windows RT slabs in October'

cyke1
WTF?

but what is funny

I already heard of a report EU is investigating new Windows RT tablet over the fact of IE being installed on it. Um Come on really? Look at the IPad heck any iOS device. they FORCE you to use safari on it and you can't even change it so its not the default browser, this has been going on since iPad was released yet they are investigating Windows RT for something before its even out. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

cyke1

i expect the win 8 surface pro to be the better of the 2 since it will be running on an intel core i5 so pretty much has power to run just about anything you desktop could short of high end games.

Analyst says Surface could hurt Ultrabook, Windows 8 tablets

cyke1
Windows

well

Givin all the android tablets out there are pretty shootty to, I believe MS see's it as they can't expect them to do anything right for windows tablet so they will do it them selves. On top of fact they gotta to expand their business.

Re: AS GREEDY AS APPLE

you also forgot, part about buying the judge off to make sure your patents are not ruled invalid.

cyke1
FAIL

Re: Californication

If i have read right what samsung released was already in public domain to start with so they did nothing wrong. Apple are the guilty party by making false claims about a phone that predates theirs and also the judge for allowing them to do so and blocking the proof that apple is full of it.

Racketeering suit filed over smut-piracy charges

cyke1
FAIL

its a load

this companies file a class action suit against a list of people pay a 1 time court fee of few hundred bucks at most and to get a subpena for 100's or 1000's of IP's. Abuse the court system just so they can nothing more then extort money from people with nothing more then an IP and a time it was seen on a torrent. But like judge in other cases has said when AP for open anyone can download data through it and person that pays the bill is one in the cross hairs. Even if its a protected AP and it gets hacked same story. Its nice to see Judges starting to wise up to all this crap and seeing an IP address doesn't identify a person directly, on DHCP which most connections are for home users, an IP could be used by 1 person at one time an hour later its being used by another so even a small type-o could put wrong person in the chair.

ACTA can't get its act together

cyke1
FAIL

backroom deal

They are never good for the public at large, only the people involved in the deal are ones that win. This act was bad news from minute 1. When it was wrote up in a back room by pro-copyright groups everyone knew it was bad news without even reading it cause we didn't need to.

"ACTA intends to establish international standards to enforce intellectual property rights, as well as an international legal framework to target generic medicines, counterfeit goods, and copyright infringement online."

^ What a law Intends and what it could be used for are 2 different things. It can be ment to stop counter fit goods and drugs but if its worded wrong it can do a ton of hard to public rights and privacy. Yea those pro-copyright people can say its not but that is them saying with their fingers crossed behind them cause its worded for them to do everything they really want. In the end nothing will change and bill, tready what ever they want to call it besides SOPA or PIPA. It won't be enough when they still lose money using a 30year old business model

cyke1
FAIL

ha no

Its what happens when a law is wrote up in a back room and gets leaked to public. When you get a bunch of pro-copyright people to write a bill with 0 input from the people its gonna effect its not gonna be a good law. Any country politicians know that voting for this is career suicide.

Second win for Apple as Galaxy Nexus sales banned in US

cyke1

Re: Evidence for loss of sales?

Accually from q1 2011 to q1 this year they lost the smartphone market share lead and its funny how apple has only been suing 1 company to keep their phone's outta the market? Sure you can go on to guess who has taken over the top spot in smartphone market share. Just show's how scared apple is cause they know they are totally screwed after Steve died
