Intel left a fascinating security flaw in its chips for 16 years – here's how to exploit it

I think they just found a way to sell more CPU's, I didn't see anywhere if AMD is also suffering from this bug as well.

Windows 10: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to Microsoft's long apology for Windows 8

I thought this was supposed to an apology for win8, funny you cant upgrade from win8 to win10.

Windows 10: A sysadmin speaks his brains – and says MEH

Feldagast

Think I will wait until just before the end of the free option and then decide if it is worth upgrading, I will let everyone else Alpha, Beta, Charlie test the software for me and see after several patches if its what I want to start using.

SpaceX Dragon cargo truck flies 3D printer to ISS: Clawdown in 3, 2...

Feldagast

I am wondering how well that printer will print in zero g, there has to be some separation from print head to printed surface, wonder if that will make a difference in orbit.

Code Spaces goes titsup FOREVER after attacker NUKES its Amazon-hosted data

Feldagast

Why I don't trust the cloud, where your dependent on others or a internet connection to work or see your data. How is it anything other than a revenue stream for these companies? If I don't back up my files on my computer its my fault, letting them sit out there is another thing.

Boffinry breakthrough: First self-replicating life with 'alien' DNA

Feldagast

There are plenty of times in the events of human history that we should probably not have gone there, gun powder, nuclear fission come to mind, playing around with DNA is probably the next one that will probably end with massive amounts of oh crap, wish we hadn't done that, after it escapes from some lab somewhere.

Japanese quantum boffins 'may have the key to TELEPORTATION'

Feldagast

We have had teleporters for years, ever since the first clothes dryer made a sock jump to another random clothes dryer, how else would you explain all the single socks?

Talking computers

I thought by now we would have moved onto talking computers, hell with typing everything, the computer on the Enterprise (star trek) albeit fake could pick up on when it was asked a question. We already have the communicators, phasers, lasers, much is known about anti-matter, and other suggested future technology from the show, now where is my talking computer. If you say how ever would it determine when you were talking to it, how about ctrl+v when you wish to address it. If Apple can come out with Siri on a phone why cant anyone else come out with something for the desktop. I can imagine a day when you would just tell the computer to go find pictures of Miley Cirrus swinging on a wrecking ball and get shown a list like a google search for pictures and videos. Even better for bonus points would be to ask you if you want video, or pictures.

Not sure it works but sounded interesting, and I found it several years ago.

Feldagast

In the US you can get what they call a Telezapper, it plays the tones which her in the US signal a out of service or disconnected phone prior to the answering machine picking up. As most of the cold calls in the US are done by automated phone services it stops them before its ever connected to an operator. I imagine recording what ever that sound is in the UK at the beginning of your answering machine message might do the trick.. In the US we have the Do Not Call registration but the politicians and charities are exempt from having to follow it.

Good luck, I think the annoyance of unwanted phone calls is a universal thing.

Boffins develop 'practically free' sulphur-powered batteries

Feldagast

None of these schemes will do anything for us the market if they don't get used. I keep hearing these stories on here and Physorg.com but never hear about them being produced, just experiments in a lab somewhere.

Review: Renault Zoe electric car

Feldagast

Still looks like a shoebox

It looks like just about any other electric car, you cant get much when you have to design it to be as efficient as they have to be to conserve battery power. I imagine if you use the heater your travel distance is severely hampered too.

Oi, Microsoft, where's my effin' toolbar gone?

Feldagast
Thumb Down

Now hide the ribbon

Too bad you cant hide the ribbon as easily as a toolbar. I keep using office 2000 because they haven't made any improvements to the program that I want, they just made it prettier and asked for more money.

ESA proposes 3D printing on the moon

Feldagast
FAIL

Mechanical Parts vs Lunar Soil

Just how long would that printer last with all the extremely abrasive dust which is everywhere and very clingy getting into the printer? Tunneling as the basis for the beginning of a lunar base has to be the only answer, someone said plasma drill? How are you going to power it? I think first shelters will have to be the traditional tin can type buried under lunar soil for thermal and radiation protection. After you build a quick dirty set of surface shelters you can begin tunneling for permanent structures. IF after you have that set you you can begin building on the surface with whatever means and materials you find or can haul up there.

MS Multiplan

Anyone remember the forerunner to Excel, Microsoft Multiplan? I used it a few times, it was clunky and a dos program, but for basic use it worked fine for the time.
