Re: Remember serial breakout boxes?

Not only do I remember them I even used one a month ago or so. Together with a couple of DB-25 to DB-9 adapters.

Could it be you're thinking of "Motel of the Mysteries" by David Macaulay? Where a future Carson excavates a 20-th century Motel thinking it a sacred necropolis.

My hoard of obsolete hardware might be useful… one day

I got rid of the Sparcstation IPX but still have SCSI cables, HD's, DAT backup and even an external LTO somewhere. Box of ISA cards, even a radio card, box of PCI cards probably even a motherboard cpu and ram to use them in. And in a far away box in the garage some twinax, a 8" floppy, punch card gauges and one of those metal ribbons with characters on for a printer. I case you need a Pentium Pro, slot 1 pentium or 286 chip I have it covered.

Oh, and I'm single...

No love for the HP calculators?

Must be the most durable things ever made. Got an HP-15C I still use daily. Not a single key is fading, survived being submerged and is now after 28 years on its third set of batteries. I fully expect it to be working longer than me.

"real work"

Maybe Office is real work for certain people, but wake me when I can use Mentor graphics, Solidworks, ProE, Catia, Cosmos etc on a tablet. At the same time as writing a report containing stuff from all these "aps". And interface some obscure gear through a real serial post and an ancient dos interface.
