Re: it won't even talk to the BBC on this issue.
"You'll see a lot more of this as they try to catch up with Android by attempting to copy"
So you're saying that Apple copied this from Android? Where's your evidence fanboi?
Re: Apple owner? Sucks to be you....
Is that just Apple owners or owners of all fruits?
You sound quite grumpy. Have you had someone "wave their fruit bar all over your face".
@AlbertH
I think you'll find "Their adverts for their computers" , as you describe them, were ADVERTS FOR THEIR COMPUTERS. And you call Apple users stupid!
@ Malcolm Weir
Ok. I'll bite. What's the point of an ad for a brand?
Re: How to tell if an ad was worth the money spent...
Not sure I agree with that. I remember the Go Compare adverts but they don't make me want to use them. I don't agree with mindless brand loyalty so selling a brand doesn't work for me either. The barista advert was very clever but this doesn't come close.
Maybe sperm count is inversely proportional to footballing ability, in which case Scotland will suffer from overcrowding in future.
Re: @Trevor_Pott
"you can easily argue the "fairness" and "non-discriminatory" nature of a % versus a fixed amount. It all depends on which biases and preconceptions you approach the argument with."
Surely you shouldn't have biases or preconceptions if it's supposed to be "fair and non discriminatory"?
@Dana W
"There is my proof, Android users have NO sense of humor."
Haven't you seen the Dom Joly impersonaters with their Galaxy Notes?
"Sorry, most of us are fed up of hearing about them."
So why bother reading every article about them and commenting multiple times?
Re: What are you smoking.
"Interesting that the Fanbois are throwing up Samsung as a comparison - they obviously recognise who the competition is, especially since Samsung outsold Apple."
Samsung is the top selling smartphone brand. What's the point of comparing to HTC or Motorola?
Re: definition of dickhead
"Unemployed?"
Dude. He's a barista.
Not so good for Mr and Mrs Kerr
what's wrong with naming your child after an Apple product?
I think Crap Map App has a nice ring to it
Re: Clearly
I heard his ring tone was Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire
Re: Invention
"Parents are supposed to be novel and non obvious:"
"But they throw alot of money at getting parents on bullshit"
How's that auto correction working out for you? I'm guessing it's a Samsung device you're using since it doesn't understand the word PATENT.
Mark,
Rather than keep whining about the lack of support for Android why not see it as an opportunity and start developing for it yourself.
Re: 15%
"Every pikey and their dog has iPhone, look at the q in the chip shop and see!"
Said the pikey who can't even spell queue!
Re: Offline mappage
The biggest problem with offline maps in Google maps is that it periodically loses the cached data and it always seems to know the worst time to do it!
so that's how you get decent battery life out of Android device is it?
Build a car around it
"And don't forget, NFC isn't just for payments. Get a SGIII and find out what Apple will be copying"
What? All the data off of your S3?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/09/21/android_nfc/
Re: No comment
Oh no! It seems like they're all copying Apple. We know where this is heading!
Re: iPhone owners don't have the time to care...
"MONOPOLOY"
You call other people stupid and you can't even spell. Maybe you should try using both hands?
Re: htc patent crapple
@DEAD4EVER
May I just ask, do you know what a comma is and have you ever used one?
Re: Apple might have handed Xmas to Samsung early
"If Sammy get going now with a 'Buy one before it's banned' campaign "
Surely that would be an admission of guilt!
Re: "The company itself got its start from copying the GUI system developed at Xerox PARC."
"It doesn't matter if they "stole it" or they "paid for it"
It's good to see your years at law school weren't wasted. Are you one of Samsung's lawyers?
@Destroy All Monsters
" Fanbois and assorted random faggots would says yes"
You hear pig organs talking to you?
Re: It's never about who is right
Maybe Samsung should have found some who could tell their tablet apart from an iPad then
Just search for "Flash Player". It still shows up. (Provided your device is compatible)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adobe.flashplayer&hl=en
Re: "idiot tax"
You wouldn't think someone with a name like Kunert would get involved in name calling!
Re: Branding
If it's between the iPad and iPod surely it will be called the iPed or iPid.
"I prefer my phone, I don't get a "twat" label by being seen with it."
No, you can rightly say you earned your "twat" label all by yourself.
Re: Doogie1
"Please remind me - which group of users, Apple or Android, amke a big deal out of the security of their applications?"
Well if they have half a brain, both of them surely. Not sure what you're point is but I'll answer your question anyway
Must be a slow news day. Tomorrow we'll have the same story about the Google Play store I guess. It's binary data occupying a portion of your hard disk. If you've got a virus scanner it'll pick it up, if you don't you wouldn't be any the wiser.
"They are not as cool"
Nor would you be if you'd just been dried in a microwave
It could be the Android Yahoo Mail application
If the Android Yahoo Mail application is exposing an Intent it could be a piece of malware exploting it, similar to what this previous article describes
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/11/30/google_android_security_bug/
Re: "Officially sanctioned leaks?"
" Indeed-the idea that Apple are secretive is one of the world's greatest myths"
Don't say that. You'll hurt the Reg's feelings.
@Obviously!
It's not just the faithful who hang on, you're obviously obsessed ( obsessed obviously!)
Re: Sat here waiting for my S3 to explode or do something
"Sat here waiting for my S3 to explode or do something"
If it's not doing anything, it's either turned off or crashed. All normal for a Samsung!
Re: Oh dear
With 3 million advanced orders, I think we're witnessing the birth of the Samboi!
Maybe they should have got a Barista to design it!
Re: Double take
"LBE Privacy Guard is a useful tool to tame use of over-eager permissions in Android applications. Rooting is required."
Not only rooting, you also need to trust that LBE Privacy Guard isn't doing anything malicious and that the version of LBE Privacy Guard you have is a proper one.
Maybe they didn't want to be in the next Samsung ad!
Re: Daisey lied.
Spot on. Lucky for him Apple's lawyers are all busy at the moment!
Re: How did they conduct the survey?
That might be so, but you can't include the Aces and Wildfires for the sake of making up the numbers to say that Android is number one then ignore them when it comes to customer satisfaction and only include the S2s and Sensations.
Re: it could be skullduggery...
....or it could be they're trying to avoid making lots of tablets and not selling them. That's an Android patent. Motorola and Samsung would sue them for copying.
Aaron Em @1.05
To paraphrase you
This is the Reg, kiddo, not Feministe -- "I think it's shameful" isn't going to shut anyone up around here. Instead, it's going to make us wonder how it is that you get through life if you can't deal with low-level shit like this without whining about it.
For Christ's sake, either go away and complain somewhere that isn't stuffed full of unsympathetic bastards like me, or grow some hair on your balls and shoot back. Spitting pablum all over your bib impresses no one
Re: Did it root *any* Android phone?
It just used the Honeybomb exploit, so no. It does show that Android malware is getting more sophisticated though.
Re: I've never trusted LBE Privacy Guard
What could possibly go wrong? It's not like you need to grant it root access or anything....
Re: Re: It cannot be!
"Apple doesn't get the source code for the app, nor do they check the behaviour of every function call the app makes. Apps are approved as long as they conform to the official APIs and - from the user's perspective - follow the rules."
Maybe not but it would be trivial to have a tool that flagged access to certain APIs (contacts and location for a start) and if the use is not appropriate request clarification from the developer. I assumed this is what Apple did. If not what are they doing for their money?
Re: There are far better options.
That's not any better if the application doesn't handle the exception, it will just crash. Far better to return an empty contact list.
