Its not just Germany
Well what about the British Library, I applied a while ago for a job with the British Library where they are planning to log everything that has ever been published on a .co.uk domain, I assume by screen scraping often.
This service has been available for years
An old schoolfriend of mine use to run a company called Komtel, and whenever anyone at the company called anyone else it gave the company 0800 number, Apparently BT has offered this service for years and calls it "Presentation Numbers"
So you can have an 0207 number that has a presentation number of 0800 123456.
This service is available already, now there is a company offering it to joe public and not businesses so the world is up in arms, I suppose that as long as the company records the incoming and outgoing numbers so in the event of a query by ofcom they can say customer with number 01234567890 called 01432 123456 pretending to use number 0870 123456 at this time and date for x minutes there can be no problems (obviously provided only with appropriate legal requests for information as per the dpr rules)
Jordan because the world has been as simple as her in ignoring the technology
Its worse than that jim!!!!
A neighbour of mine had installed CCTV watching over his car, some hoodliums put a tree log through the windscreen of next door's Camper van, This was caught on the CCTV,
The police said they cannot accept it as evidence as there were no signs in the area stating that CCTV was in use, - Whats the point of having a camera when its not admisible as evidence because the homeowner hasnt put up signs saying "You may be recorded on CCTV"
We are advised to get CCTV to protect our property but unless we put up a sign there is nothing they can do about it...
Myspace is bloatware
I refuse to go to anyone's myspace profile as it is ridiculous as I run a tiny Mac Mini with 512mb ram and most myspace pages just swap like crazy and has anyone tried finding the Music off switch on a Myspace page, - If i wanted to have heavy metal blaring out of my computer I would play an mp3 or CD,
it really wipes out the Spicegirls albums on permanent loop....
Bit Torrent isnt just for pirates
Well one question, does that mean I have to pay more to play World of Warcraft ? or how about to download the latest community edition of SuSE Linux?
Both of those are distributed via the BitTorrent protocol, Blizzard uses BitTorrent to deploy its update patches, and you can get SuSE via torrent. I am sure other software firms also use BitTorrent to distribute their wares, What will that mean to those companies when their distribution network is being curtailed or blocked just because of the technology they chose to implement as a means to reduce stress on their own servers?
I wish the ISPs would grow up and tell the RIAA and MPAA to go get lost,
Just for anonymous
I like GITS and specially some of the more esoteric Anime series like Red Garden,
But I dont think the world is ready for super cyborgs and mechanical brains, and GITS has its problems as well, people can have burnout and silication of the brain....
as for the story, are you sure its not April fools again, it sounds so far fetched that if it had been launched on the 1st then it would have been discredited as fake.
As for my protection from the cyborgs, - try an EMP generator...
The real problem
The problem here is she quoted the Written title of a section of the Vagina Monologues that she was performing.
in that context it was not being used as an expletive at all,
Far from it, and for them to jump on her for its use is a contravention of the 1st amendment.
Maybe i should become a top Bestselling author and name all my books after common swear words, I would shock them on TV when i announce my next best seller is called <deleted for expletives>
Not Just Teenagers
Well, I am 38 and can hear these devices, It usually gives me a splitting migraine
What about adults....
Can i sue the inventor or the store for causing me pain and discomfort?
also most of my friends can hear the mosquito so its not just teenagers who can hear it, what about any adult with good hearing....
Police dont care
A neighbour of mines son stood up to the school bully, that night the bully and 8 of his mates went round their house, was caught by the neighbours CCTV and then proceeded to throw a log through the windscreen of the families Winabago.
When the police came, they gave the guys name and address to the police who said "cant do anything you have no photographic evidence"
They pointed out the CCTV and the police's response was " cant use it in court, you dont have signs up saying you are recording on CCTV so its inadmissable" they then gave a crime number and said "call your insurance there is nothing we can do".
So, Yobs/Chavs have Freedom to make our lives hell and there is nothing we can do as we have to prove that they did it, yet someone loitering near a school is immediately accused of being a paedophile and carted away to be investigated.
What a balanced world we live in.
Sat nav Circles
I have an Alpine In Car Stereo/ Sat Nav.
I had just visited a friend in the Yorkshire Village of Todmorden and was heading off to a friend's in Bradford.
Sat nav sent me left into the hills (rather than straight down into Hebden Bridge.)
over the top of the moor, and back into the top end of Todmorden. - Then as I approached the junction again - Next Left - Needless to say I ignored the satnav and carried on into Hebden bridge and out of the Yorkshire Triangle.
That wasnt the only one. coming down the M40 to visit a friend in Winslow Bucks,
The Sat nav again sent me onto the A43, first exit left, right turn, right turn, at the roundabout Make a U turn then first exit left........
Strange thing is every time round the loop reduces the mileage until the destination is reached.... or are the machines trying to make us drive in circles until our cars run out of fuel then send in the robot killing machines now we cant run away anymore...
The login details suck
The main problem with the Online filing is they send you a ridiculous username and password on multiple letters, - which they will not resend easily and you cannot change your login easily or your password meaning that its easier to fill in the form and do it that way.
It's not just truphone
UK Voip operator Mobiboo are also being blocked by T-Mobile and also 3,
These 2 operators refuse to allow their customers to dial the Mobiboo numbers which all start 07911 . As with Truphone trying to dial these numbers ends up with a recording saying that the subscriber must have misdialled.
However Mobiboo has a solution and for a cheap £2 per month you can have a Geographic number pointing to your Mobiboo number that is callable even from T-Mobile.
