Re: *scratching head*
The boosters that are being trialled here don't push the satellite all the way into orbit. They are the first stage boosters only and detach shortly after launch (like the boosters on the space shuttle). As they are travelling 'relatively' slow (but still a few machs!) they get slowed down by air resistance as they fall to earth and land and are recovered.
The main booster that takes the rest of the satellite all the way to orbit will still be use-once disposable rockets.
Maths was correct, holding down of shift was incorrect... I meant 94KB (kilobytes) rather than Kb (kilobits).
Re: Nothing new
These days a lot of people have blackberries that buzz when there is an incoming email. The guys on tech support in China were not amused...
Your maths is bad. 94Kb per email (which is what it averaged out as as the reply-all had all the previous text/images in it as the afternoon went on).
Dominic embodies everything that is wrong with the world
Maybe I just work for a good company and have managers who aren't utter tools. My managers understand what I do and have got the braincells they can rub together to be able to understand that someone who sits down quietly, always delivers things ahead of schedule and has his software pass through all review processes painlessly is worth more to the company than employees who make a lot of noise and come in on weekends to 'go the extra mile' and get their stuff fixed *just before* the deadline. Meanwhile I've been sitting on the beach all weekend relaxing because my stuff worked first time.
Sure, they get an extra few hundred quid for overtime but at the annual review when all my boss can do is shower praise on me for always being the one who produces things without fail and without drama, I then suggest that my pay is below industry average for someone of my ability and two months later I get a few £k pay raise.
Maybe I'm just lucky and have intelligent managers rather than grade-A tools like Dominic to work with (and yes, I have (unsuccessfully) used Dominic as a recruiter before - he's just as much of an asinine moron on the phone as he sounds in this article).
Question about linking to the bank account
How does to verify that you are the owner of the bank account when you download the app? It's not that hard to find out other people's bank account details (sort code + account number) and their address. Has anyone registered with it yet to say what is to stop me registering this with my mobile number and someone else's address/bank account, then sending £300 a day for as long as I can get away with it to my other phone/account?
What if I lose my phone
If I lose my phone on a bus, does that mean that anyone who finds it can ping £300 to their phone number straight away?
I looked at this a while ago. I can't remember exactly, but I think that was going to be either mag 9 or 11. Either way, not visible without a decent telescope and even then not easy. Shame, but if it's clear this evening I'm going to give it a go. I saw the supernova recently at mag 10 and it took me over an hour to find!
It always makes me laugh at the 'digital copy' you get, as if the DVD and Blu-ray versions are analogue...
Rant and grumble. My iPhone still takes longer to boot up than my Windows PC. It's just that portable devices and macbooks use suspend/sleep a lot more than desktop PCs.
