Euro broadcast industry still in a fug over that 4K-ing UHD telly

Re: People don't want it.

As someone who is only allowed to buy one TV every 10 years, I will certainly be buying into 4K quite soon, and I'm fairly sure in about 6-7 years time I'll be "researching" the next big thing because the tech has moved on again, and again, and again... (Unfortunately I'm too good at researching TVs, last 2 sets have easily lived beyond 9 years!!)

TrueCrypt + Norton AV = BSOD, wail disgruntled users

Re: "Who uses Norton?"

Another paid-up WinZip user here ! I remember fondly the days of using PKZip to get data onto my 3.5" "floppies" on one of the 2 IBM PS/2 installed at my uni... I know it's not the same company but I thought I should actually buy WinZip when it became one of those "must have" programs years ago. I must say though, I can't remember the last time I actually compressed anything, perhaps I should rethink this...! Incidentally, I'm also a Norton IS user, not had any problems with it for years, but I make sure I upgrade the software at least 3 months after everyone else, I learnt my lessons years ago! And never, ever renew the sub through the software (usually £50) - I just order another boxed copy from Amazon for £20. How does that work?!

Sound and battery: 20 portable Bluetooth speakers

Unhappy

For those with iPhones ...

It's all well and good that these Bluetooth speakers are now including the "higher quality" apt-x codec, but bear in mind Apple do not support apt-X in their iOS devices, so you won't necessarily get the best out of these speakers with iPhones etc. I recently bought the Denon Envaya and although I'm quite impressed with the sound, it is a bit muddy through Bluetooth - it does improve when I connect using an aux cable, but what's the point in that?! I think it's a little bittersweet for us iPhone users...

Rogue Leaders

I look to my right and see one of my most beloved books "Rogue Leaders - The Story of LucasArts" and think this would be an appropriate time to re-live their formative glories over some wine this weekend... <sigh>

Vodafone knocks over £120 off iPhone 4S

Plan details seem to have changed a bit

When I checked the Vodafone website on Monday, it said that contract plans of more than £40 a month would have 25MB a day of European data roaming for free - I thought great, the £41 a month 18-month plan would be useful as I travel to Europe a fair bit. When I look today, the "Data Abroad" footnote now says its only valid for plans of 1200 monthly minutes or more (in my case, that would be the £51 a month plan) - so overall I will actually LOSE with the new pricing!

Anyone else spot this or any other subtle changes?
