Confusius he say

You're lucky, here in the UK I don't exist, the nearest town is now called the name of a town 40 miles away and parts of Wales are now in England. If I try to navigate to my address it sends me to a pond 11 miles away in a village whose name does not match the village it sends me to.

Confused? You will be after next weeks episode of........

85% of Windows 8 users wield the desktop on day one

Re: Was there a survey?

85% of ? 10? 20? 100? 1000? 10,000? 100,000?

If there are any win 8 users out there, did a little box come up on the screen asking for you to agree to Microsoft harvesting your details or if not is it a program that phones home without interaction.

Hmm.

Really!

It doesn't mean that they won't bring out something 'new' that won't be transferable to older devices.

It just means there will be support, just like XP so this is just sound bite advertising.

Re: i wonder...

Yes it looks like the Tories are masters of deviant behaviours, stemming from their Public Schools no doubt.

However Labour are catching up not so much with deviant behaviours but fraudulent, stemming from the 'loophole' of being able to buy a house on expenses and then renting it out to a fellow MP who them claims housing expenses for renting, while at the same time renting his house out to the first MP for the same purpose.

If they had used their brains like this while in power the UK would be the richest country in the world.

So at the next election we have a choice between deviants and the devious.

There have been a number of complaints recently where a school introduced fingerprint readers for the diner queue. Rather than using money or a card to pay for you meal, you use a fingerprint.

Of course the machine 'does not' record finger prints, though it must contain a database of them many parents are concerned about data protection issues. The system was introduced without a consultation. It would be quite easy for the police or local authority to get access to it simply by requesting it through a court order.

The danger is that like the DNA data base many innocent young people can find themselves on the system simply because the police have been having a trawl.

But hey if you have nothing to hide? As they say.

Apple CEO: Microsoft Surface 'compromised, confusing'

LarsG

Re: I'm curious

It is neither a pure tablet or a pure laptop, the surface is confused about its identity. There will be some sales, I'd like to try one but I think it will have limited appeal.

Pick up a well designed tablets for the first time and use it, it will make you smile. Pick up a quality laptop and use it for the first time, it will make you smile.

Pick up a Surface for the first time and you will wonder whether to use it as a tablet or use it with the key board, you will wonder if you need to take the keyboard out to the coffee shop with you, when you go on holiday, will you need the keyboard........

For someone who lives in a big city

Oh the privilege he has, HIS LTE is so good that he doesn't bother with wireless.

He fails to see one thing, not all of us have decent Internet coverage, not all of us have LTE and not all of us live somewhere with good mobile coverage, let alone wireless coverage that can be readily accessed.

Maybe he is not as clever as he thinks he is.

READ THE SMALL PRINT

'We reserve the right to change what we want to, when we want to, how we want to at any time during your contract period. We do not have to consult you, ask your permission or anything because we are in charge and have written the contract terms.

We also reserve the right to stick two fingers up at your consumer rights because we are bigger that you and you'd never have enough in you bak account to take us to court.

We also reserve to right to ignore you if we so choose and if the service is not up to scratch then so what. Go somewhere else if you don't like it'. Symbol of the finger.

Of course, you do have a choice to move you contract, to somewhere less favourable and with the same contract terms.

ZTE execs halve pay until profits return

LarsG

Never

Never happen here in the UK, take half pay voluntarily, for their performance.

Nope, here the CEO will want a pay rise, then take the bonus while denying any culpability. Then save money by introducing redundancies for the lower paid.

Unless pressured by the Government or a non deniable failure is found, in which case they take their bonus, take the shares, healthcare package, retirement fund and huge severance package and retire. Two months later they they come out of retirement, get a job on the old boys network and do it again.

Here they never lose out.

LarsG

More cost effective

Is to buy a proper book not an ebook.

A proper book can be passed on to another family member

Given to charity

Sold again

Used to help make a fire if shipwrecked on a desert island

Toilet paper in emergency

Rollups

A weapon against a burglar

Inherited

Prop up a wobbly table

Burn to keep warm

Ebooks can't do any of that.

Decimation

Was used on Roman Legions if they failed to perform or ran away.

Also when a Roman soldier was found asleep on watch his mates were required to beat him to death.

Though I have a question, a Roman Century was made up of 80 men (not 100 as you might expect) so was Decimation 1 in 8 or was it decimal 1 in 10?
