Of course it does. Does anyone think that the Google arose to fame, fortune and anti-mediocrity through meritocracy alone?
And while we are at it, does anyone think that the faults in Android are purely (pukely?) accidental?

Has anyone read Daily Mail recently bout rush on Aldi low-ish spec tablet on sale in UK for 75 of the earthlings UK pound things?
Who says there is no demand for computers?
It seems as if there is a great demand but one that is not being met¿
Besides maybe it manifests the UK march to third world status?
It seems that English speaking nations has a civil service that (unusually?) has very similar tactics (as an aside: if so I wonder how those similarities evolved? Collusion perhaps?)
The UK civil service also draws things out to turn any action against it into almost a non-action as it takes so long to take action if that makes sense. It seems to attempt to win by Azkaban Tormentor tactics by attempting to induce a lack of will to live?
akin to an author copying the chapter titles and topic sentences of an advance copy of a Harry Potter book and then paraphrasing the rest and claiming it as fair use
Seems a bit of a strange interpretation.
As others have noticed if precedent is set it means that house brick making organisations can now claim anything built with its house bricks owes a copyright fee or has breached copyright.
Maybe even power supply unit manufacturers can then sue any device makers for using PSU to power their devices and of course the utility company manufacturing electricity for public consumption will now need to argue it out with the electric cable manufacturers to see who has copyright breaches regarding stuff that is powered by mains electricity.
You humans! Aren't you funny little things?
and even more inept UK Whitehall
From the makers of "An Englishman's home is his castle" corrected to "An Englishman's home is his hovel"
(UK homes are the worst in Europe, and that Europe goes all the way to Russia)
With additional hits such as "The Greatest Debt in the history of the world" and "The best rewarded public servants and elected politicians in the world ever"
"How to die in your own home in abject misery , poverty and freeze to death"
"Don't worry it will soon be over. If you survive you might save 50 quid a year though unless price s go up that is"
Is it not time we dispensed with government and the costs of such soon?
Maybe the Minister is being cajoled into making a decision that does not appear in his personal agenda?
If so, where is the urge for DABcoming from?
Who is bigging up a non-issue into something important?
(My taken is that it probably is the same people who prefer to broadcast minority issue sports such as cricket or golf over major interest sports such as IoM. Tsk! Middle class morality again and in charge of treasury funds? Never? Sometimes I wonder if all of those dead soles dying in service in 2 world wars, civilians and other wars included are turning in their graves at the "freedoms" that so exactingly robbed them violently of life)
Do you think MS and/or the Apple might be 3 generation concerns?
Explanation
Some startups blossom, go from founder to founders offspring and start to lose a bit of turnover with increased costs squishing returns to shareholders.
By the time founders offsprings offspring takeover the concern is losing vital viabilties and soon ceases to exist as a separate commercial entity?
1
Develop architectures that will enable super-tablets to excel in limited function devices.
For example:
Photoshop type devices
3D type device
...
And these devices are capable of talking to each other in meaningful and productive ways.
2
Start from where Archimedes left off and develop a wide ranging device that runs 3rd party software in a reasonably specced ecosystem.
?
Interesting but ...
I can't see the point of prolonging OS longer on a small device when iOS and ARM do such a wonderful job anyway.
Maybe a mash up device is interesting from a technical or project perspective and if there is anything singularly and particularly objective what notions of longterm support are likely?
HM Treasury ain't gonna do it.
They need the cash so I'd guess any and all contracts will end up with Treasury biased psuedo-companies.
One way of doing so seems to be the informal "old boy" network and the other is to make procurement processes so difficult to work and/or understand that it is out off reach of most bona fide SMEs
You are all wrong and exhibit classic tendencies that cling on to the old order.
The old order mish-mashed together Intel, Microsoft and IBM.
The new order mish-mashes together ARM and whoever, Android and whoever, insert name of your favourite assembler here and chip set.
While aeons ago some hardware and software combinations were described as means of democratising something (desktop publishing, web publishing, image editing, video editing and animation creation, ... ) welcome to the new world, the new era in which hardware, software and firmware have just been democratized.
And know what?
For some it hurts.
It really, really hurts.
And then, of course, there are China, Brazil, India and Russia.
What might they bring to this market of much reducing Wintel influence (assuming that there is some form of independence therein)?
I too used Apple kit and longingly look back to a time not so long ago when my MacBook Pro, iPhone and Mac Pro were all wondrously synced and MobileMe did a thoroughly good job.
I used to have an iPAQ too and wondered how such a small device did so much so very, very well.
And MS then HP sort of ignored it into obscelecence.
I've just bought into Android and no have my fingers crossed. It is rather wonderful and I am amazed at the range of functionality for so little squids.
Which all goes to show that if the Apple decided to do a base model without all of the cosmetics with a minimum of 32 GB memry at a price on par with Nexus 7 then it would be a world beater?
But who wants to be a world beater?
On the other hand: is the world ready for an economically inspired iDevice?
Huh! Don't believe any of that at all!
The Tardis doesn't need you to be superfit n healthy.
Just watch any of the episodes (the Earth bound ones) and you'll also see that the whole cluster of dwellings can be carried in the Tardis and (it is a really big A-N-D) with its time warping features the Tardis could arrive on Mars a few days before it set of from Earth.
... and guilt by association therefore guilty seem to be the main themes in this thread.
Guilt by association therefore guilty
Bitcoins, pedos, tax evadors, tax avoiders, terrorists, ... , therefore all in the same group therefore guilty.
Cost analysis
While it saves money to take no action then take no action until it costs more to do nothing and then take action?
I suppose software and its marketing does deserve to evolve but somewhere in all that mix is the "early adopters" syndrome.
In the older and apparently soon to be phased out model early adopters more or less knew (but without formally being notified or knowing if you know what I mean) that any glitches would be smoothed out in a .1 release update service pack thingy.
Where will early adopters now gain syndrome shattering confidence?
