It seems that English speaking nations has a civil service that (unusually?) has very similar tactics (as an aside: if so I wonder how those similarities evolved? Collusion perhaps?)

Seems a bit of a strange interpretation.

As others have noticed if precedent is set it means that house brick making organisations can now claim anything built with its house bricks owes a copyright fee or has breached copyright.

Maybe even power supply unit manufacturers can then sue any device makers for using PSU to power their devices and of course the utility company manufacturing electricity for public consumption will now need to argue it out with the electric cable manufacturers to see who has copyright breaches regarding stuff that is powered by mains electricity.

One way of doing so seems to be the informal "old boy" network and the other is to make procurement processes so difficult to work and/or understand that it is out off reach of most bona fide SMEs

The new order mish-mashes together ARM and whoever, Android and whoever, insert name of your favourite assembler here and chip set.

While aeons ago some hardware and software combinations were described as means of democratising something (desktop publishing, web publishing, image editing, video editing and animation creation, ... ) welcome to the new world, the new era in which hardware, software and firmware have just been democratized.

And know what?

For some it hurts.

It really, really hurts.

And then, of course, there are China, Brazil, India and Russia.

What might they bring to this market of much reducing Wintel influence (assuming that there is some form of independence therein)?

I too used Apple kit and longingly look back to a time not so long ago when my MacBook Pro, iPhone and Mac Pro were all wondrously synced and MobileMe did a thoroughly good job.

I used to have an iPAQ too and wondered how such a small device did so much so very, very well.

And MS then HP sort of ignored it into obscelecence.

I've just bought into Android and no have my fingers crossed. It is rather wonderful and I am amazed at the range of functionality for so little squids.

Which all goes to show that if the Apple decided to do a base model without all of the cosmetics with a minimum of 32 GB memry at a price on par with Nexus 7 then it would be a world beater?

But who wants to be a world beater?

I seem to recall a rather rebellious group of individuals proposing a USD replacement currency based on GOLD.

It seemed to the proposers that a Gold based worldwide currency is far more reliable than a single nation based currency.

I suppose software and its marketing does deserve to evolve but somewhere in all that mix is the "early adopters" syndrome.

In the older and apparently soon to be phased out model early adopters more or less knew (but without formally being notified or knowing if you know what I mean) that any glitches would be smoothed out in a .1 release update service pack thingy.

Where will early adopters now gain syndrome shattering confidence?
