My Advice...
Wait a couple of months, and they will be able to pick them for for a tenner from the Nokia administrators.
Re: Tom Tom?
Firstly, Google have said full offline caching is coming soon to Android.
Secondly, you are assuming alot to think that because your TomTom satnav in the car has full maps on the SD Card, so will iOS6. You know they are only providing the map data, not the app right?
No answer for 1m Android activations every day then..
Just baffle dumb Apple owners with bigger but meaningless numbers. Muddy the water and let them carry on believing.
Apple Maps
Sorry, but I really can't see Apple being able to achieve even 10% of what Google Maps is.
Sure they own PlaceBase and C3, nut neither of these have the resources to map every single street in every single country around the world.
Whilst they may get similar 3D maps of major US cities (as Google are doing), they won't get ANYWHERE near the global mapping data of Google, which over global satellite maps, 3D maps, streetview and turn by turn navigation.
Prepare for a downgrade Apple owners.
Re: Metro Make Benefit Glorious Windows Phone 8
LOL, funniest thing I read... Be careful, as it might all of the sudden find this crap as headline news on wmpoweruser.com
Someone still thinks it's got legs
As Nokias share price is now $3 (from $2.70).
Expect it to fall to $2.50 by the end of the day....
I blame the press
For falsely hyping up the severity of this.
Firstly, you would have to be stupid enough to have your wifi unsecured.
Secondly, you would have to be transmitting data at the exact moment the Streetview car was in your area.
Thirdly, you would have to be sending data over a unsecured non-SSL connection.
Fourthly, Google would have to packet analyze that data and turn it into something useful.
The number of people affected: 0
The amount of times I have seen it reported in the press that "Google could surf your home computer's hard drive during streetview slup" is beyond belief. How stupid are the tech writers?
This news gets the Shitpeas "Storm in a teacup" award for sensationalist press reporting.
Re: Apparently the iPhone 5 has "cleaner UI" and "auto-updating apps"
Well they stole Android's notifications in iOS5, I wonder if they will steal Android's widgets in iOS6..
By about iOS11, iOS might be almost as good as Android 2.3
Re: Metro On the DT is CRAP !
What you are missing of course, is by making Metro optional, nobody would use it, and then Microsoft couldn't cream 30% of apps sales.
This is why Metro is being forced upon you are the default interface, so you can rebuy all your apps again, in cutdown crappy metro versions where Microsoft can cream of 30% each time.
Windows 8 is just a vehicle for that.
What do corporate box sellers think of this?
I'm guessing they were all hoping to shift lots of new hardware, until Microsoft screwed them over with this bombshell.
Consumers don't want Windows 8, business won't install it if it comes with new hardware.
So Who is Windows 8 aimed at? Baristas? Internal Microsoft demo kiosks?
Windows 8 is turning into Vista + Bob + WindowsME x 10
Re: "million dollar back-door bungs"
If your product is average, million dollar buns can work (Apple have used that for years to ensure blogs and magazine gush praise on their average products).
If your products are truly shit, like Windows Phone, then no amount of bung money can save it. Sure you will still have plenty of paid people around gushing paid-for-praise on the products, but for every one of those, there will be 10 people that can't stop laughing at them.
Nokrosoft even tried bunging cash as salespeople in stores to push Lumia, but they are too smart, they know any "sale" will come back and bite them.
Re: Argh!
Indeed, quoting Fosspatents destroys what little credibility this article may have at one time had...
If you want to quote some, use shitpeaspatents.com
Far more credible.
Windows 8 in the workplace
No chance, that stupid Metro bullshit has ensured that will never happen.
Windows 8 is turning into an even bigger trainwreck by the day, it's fascinating to see Microsoft fucking it up on such a huge scale. I thought they couldn't actually fuck up a product launch worse that they did with the Xbox360, but they seem to have achieved the unthinkable with Windows 8.
Re: Desperate?
It's called RSS. It's been around for about 20 years....
Re: Please kill Metro, or at least allow it to be completely disabled
But if they allow that, that's what everone will do, including every corporate on the planet, and Microsoft won't be able to sell you apps, and they won't be able to shove Windows Phones, Xboxes and tablets that they can't otherwise sell under your nose and say "hey it looks the same" (even if it doesn't run the same stuff).
Windows 8 isn't what USERS want, it's what MICROSOFT want, and that's where the product want wrong. The let that fucktard Balmer have a say in things.
Desperate?
Android marketshare: 70%
Microsoft Phone marketshare <1%
Surely the only desperate people here, are Nokrosoft, with this weeks "burning platform".
Microsoft and Nokia have earned the Shitpeas Epic Fail of the week award. Congratulations, your prize is in the post, just as soon as my lunch has made it's way though my digestive tract.
Re: Proved some wrong
Come on, you don't expect unbiased reporting here do you?
Everything about el-reg these days is once sided or cherrpicked on some way or another, depending on what stock the writer holds.
Re: Windows 8 Preview
I think you will find they either work for Microsoft, or work for a company employed by Microsoft to ensure there are people saying good things on the internet about Microsoft's dismal products
Re: Yet another...
Like the iPad3 retina display you mean.... ooooppps...
If you are going to hang off every word Apple says, at least do it in the privacy of your own home, and not on the Internet where people make you look foolish.
£199 pricepoint too.
Feeling for anyone that got ripped off with a Kindle right now...
Haven't we been here before?
http://i46.tinypic.com/2yl426f.jpg
Ouch....
Re: What do you get for your £175?
You get that for free owning any of the Lumias
Re: Not even a screen printed bat logo
Actually Microsoft were OK when billy was running the company.
It's all gone to shit since that sweaty oaf Balmer started dancing round the stage chanting DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS and paying their way forward rather than earning it though making desirable products.
Re: Not even a screen printed bat logo
But an ICS version of the Lumia 900 doesn't exist. So therefore the Nokia Lumia 900 is a shit phone, and the stupid batman edition is a way of enticing kids with too much pocketmoney.
Not even a screen printed bat logo
would convince me to buy an otherwise shit phone lumbered with an even shitier OS.
Sorry Nokrosoft.
Facebook and idiots
seem to go hand in hand it seems.
This sums it up for me: http://goo.gl/2p4F3
Extension for Opera users
As clearly not everyone uses Chrome...
https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/mobile-share-plus/?display=en
Re: Other iOS browsers
Because you are still using Safari.... They just add horseshit ontop... Like Dophin does.
Opera is the only non-Safari based browser on iOS, simply because it's not a browser....
Why Opera is a great buy,.
Take a look at Opera ASA share price over the last 5 years. Pretty impressive.
Oh and this:

Re: blimey...
No Lumia Windows 8 upgrades. Microsoft and Nokia have been dodging that question for months, simply because they know the answer....
Lumia is an end-of-line product.
Re: blimey...
Every time a Windows Phone article pops up, the same old Redmond/Reading accounts start posting overly positive things about an OS that's less relevant than WebOS.
Windows Phone is dead. The only people saying other otherwise, as those employed by Nokrosoft.
Re: Why did they need to replace Symbian?
Because Microsoft said so....
The only reason the Pureview exists, is the CPU needed for it can't run Windows Phone OS.
Re: Luck?
Indeed, you make your own luck in life.
Nokia were in shitstreet the day ex-Microsoft Elop took over..
Windows Phone is a dire experience, and consumers are voting with their wallets, the vast majority of the dire Lumia sales numbers are freebie bribe handsets and "shipped but gathering dust in storerooms".
Had they took the logical choice and gone the Android route, it could have been so different. They share price wouldn't be classed as "junk" and valued at less than $3 with the likelihood it will be $2 by the end of the summer.
What idiot would buy a Fire right now?
The rubbish Amazon marketplace, chock full of old versions of a very small subset of Android apps, and only allowing you to run what Amazon deems will be profitable and not a conflict of their business.
No thanks. Closed ecosystems suck.
Wait for the proper deal. Hey you can even install the Kindle app on the Google tablet... And the Kobo one, and the B&N one, and Google Books....
Re: Newspeak
Problem is, it's somehow ignoreing Huwei and ZTE who are killing everyone in the entry level smartphone market in China with entry level Android phones.
This seems very selective reporting that is aimed solely at giving Nokia investors something positive to cling to in the seas of Windows Phone disaster.
Re: ok, genuine question
These problems are all side loaded apps, which have a big fat malware warning.
The tech press should be hanging their heads in shame for not highlighting that fact, and simply heading for the easy sensationalist scaremongering BS.
It's not the length, it's the thickness that counts.
or so my misss tells me....
I loved the formfactor of the HTC Legend (3.2in), but it lacked a snapdragon, so I went for a bigger Xperia Arc S (4.2in), which is VERY slim, and still not too unweildly.
I can't ever think I would want anything bigger thou. The Xperia is perfect, as it's a VERY slim phone and fits in the pocket nicely despite it's 4.2in screen.
A 5in phone seems outrageous.
New Improved Windows.
Didn't AOL try that...
http://i46.tinypic.com/2yl426f.jpg
The problem of course, is Microsoft have so much money, they can GIVE AWAY 500m copies, tell everyone that they have a 500m userbase and create momentum from idiots that are too thick to work this out.
It's happening right now with Nokrosoft Lumia. If anyone thinks they have SOLD using real money, 1m units, they frankly are a moron.
Dated a cheesy?
IF you want to see dated and cheesy, look no further:
http://i46.tinypic.com/2yl426f.jpg
Reverse psychology at work?
I mean on the surface, they are trying to make people NOT want Windows 8, and as every week goes by, they just fuck things up even worse for the product. MetroUI is horrendous abortion of a mobile phone tailored UI for your 24in monitor. And now they are making you use it by making the old one intentionally shit.
I wonder if they are trying to psych us out?
Microsoft has a long track record of making things so shit, you can't resist them. Xbox360 for example. I must buy myself one of them, I really can't believe it's THAT bad.
Really.
What did people think would happen?
It was always a overinflated IPO. The alarm bells should have gone off on all the silly press releases in the run up, trying to convince people Facebook had long-term legs and Google was dead in the water.
Really people's stupidity stuns me sometimes. have they not heard of the dot com bubble?
Cilit Bang.
Boom, and the data's gone...
I call bullshit
Sounds like channel stuffing...
I doubt the Chinese are stupid enough to want the Windows Phones that Microsoft and Nokia can't shift in the west.
PS. What constitutes news here? Surely this bod needs to back up his claims, or do we simply believe everything Microsoft says? ("there are no endemic problems, with the XBox 360")
Methinks
There are some worries FB investors, what with this and the bullshit "news" about G+
Has El-Reg suddenly become the place to ensure everyone's stock remains profitable via bullshit posting.
Whatever happened to journalistic integrity?
Thankfully then i'm not a doctor...
Hmm
wonders if this is the reason for the overinflated 75% score for the rubbish Lumia phone....
Re: 75%? (@BarryShitPeas)
Well it explains why they gave it a over generous review and score.
What saddens me is they we will have to suffer even more deluded WP idiots and shills now...
Re: Beware, beware the ides of March
This "news" has everything about the Facbook IPO. It's all about making investors feel happy that Google won't overtake Facebook in the same way Facebook killed MySpace.
I wil bet money that Google (and G+) will be around long after Facebook is a baren MySpace-like wasteland...
" ram-it-down-your-throat approach with a 'f**k-you' response"
Want to expand on that? As clearly if Google were forcing everyone into G+, the userbase would be huge.
Surely the point here, is they AREN'T forcing people into it.
