"Only Blue isn’t a new version of Windows. Instead it is the name given to a raft "
They are going to need a raft. All their main ships have already sunk. It has better be a big raft, so that big sweaty balmer has enough room to runaround on it..
Re: So in summary
"Seriously who would be using a phone to create music?"
Baristas hoping to get out of serving coffee and be the next Moby.,,,,
Nowhere does it clarify which planet this survey was conducted on.
It clearly wasn't planet earth....
You can add the feed in Google Currents.
You can even add the whole article body too, with some clever Yahoo Pipes magic.. :-)
Already failed in the US FTC investigation
"Many of Google's competitors, including a bruised Microsoft, have long complained that the ad giant favours its own services over its rivals' products in web search results"
This was proven to be untrue in the US, and almost certainly fail here too (as otherwise, the EU will look like they are in Microsoft's pocket, as nothing is different this side of the pond).
It's just sour grapes from Microsoft, who suck at most things these days...
What's interesting, is the EU were involved in the US investigation anyway
"The Commission would like to acknowledge the close cooperation in this matter with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition"
So the likelihood of them coming up with a different outcome is slim to none.
Microsoft in channel stuffing shocker.
Nothing new here. Every new hardware product, they stuff the channel to make numbers look what shareholders expect.
The idiots are those than believe it...
I'll take 10 of them.
and pocket a cool £1500 and then throw them in the bin....
Oh, you mean they aren't paying me £150 each to take them??? Damn, there goes my plan....
Same Microsoft shitstirring as got threw out in the US.
Lets see if EU are in Microsoft's pockets....
Re: Could be worse
Perhaps he did. Haven't they only sold about 350 in total?
It has LTE (which few people have) but us twice the price of a nexus4, much worse specs and a dire app store
I can't see this setting the alight.
Re: Home users still pay for office software?
Standard documents, or microsoft standard documents? BIG difference.
I have never had a problem reading any word document, regardless of the version of MS Office it was written in. I use Google Docs (now Google Drive), and it just works, and the concurrent document editing and collaboration is superb.
Home users still pay for office software?
http://docs.google.com Price: FREE
http://www.openoffice.org Price: FREE
http://www.kingsoftstore.com Price: FREE
http://www.libreoffice.org/ Price: FREE
http://symphony.lotus.com Price: FREE
http://www.oxygenofficepro.com Price: FREE
http://www.zoho.com/ Price: FREE
Some of them might not include things like macro languages, but how many home users use that??? ALL of those are suitable for 99.999% of home users. Sorry Microsoft, like Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Xbox, Surface and Zune, you are simply out of touch...
Full Freeview lineup would be nice first.
Vast swathes of the country can't even get the full UK Freeview channel lineup, shouldn't that be a priority first?
Yes, because you paid for a subsided phone. Unlocking before the end of the contract period is the same as stealing money.
Are all Americans this stupid?
From the country that brought us the Xbotch360 RROD
comes the new Boeing 787 skyburner.
God bless Amoreica
Clearly it's not a cold call, you are on their database, as you are a customer. ...
Re: Use Netflix..
You might as well cancel NetFlix and just download everything from Bit-torrent, it's just as illegal....
Consumers don't want it.
Microsoft are a dying breed, Their products are irrelevant now and consumers are voting with their wallets. Their dubious buiness practices of years gone by have now come back to bite them in the ass.
Nobody wants Windows, Xbox, Zune, Surface, Windows Phone etc. Consumers are WAY to wary of their lock-ins,
Sorry Apple Lovers
Your favorite designer fruity status symbol company has lost it's mojo and are running around releasing any old shit, in the hope that some of it sticks.
They have no answer for Android. Android beats them in features, performance price and style at the top end, and value at the bottom and mid end. There is an Android for you, regardless of your requirements (big screen or small, waterproof, drop proof, keyboard or touchscreen, you name it, there is one).
The same is now happening on tablets too, the latest 7in Android tablets piss all over the iPad Mini, as does the 10in Android tablets over the iPad, and not only are they better, they are also cheaper too.
Re: OI! Random Fanboi!
Funny, because when I switched on my Nexus4 and signed into Google account, it automatically syncd the following for me.
SO what was your point? Google do the cloud WAY better than Apple does.
Apple's true colors yet again..
It's all coming out how corrupt Apple really are...
Re: Microsoft tastes OWN medicine
The difference is of course, Microsoft are the first ones going crying to anyone they have in their pocket, when it's their turn.
Re: Must surely be game over for Windows Phone
Yeh, because limited stock MUST mean everyone is buying it...
Honestly, I thought the human race had evolved since the Nintendo Wii launch stunts, but clearly not....
Have you been drinking the Brawndo ?
Presto is a great engine, one of the best infact. The ICE demo looks really nice. I am wondering if they need to use WebKit for iOS (because of lame Apple rules), but it will use Presto on everything else???
Either way, NOTHING is official, it's all hearsay from a single site (the same site that claimed Facebook for about to buy Opera).
I wouldn't trust too much.
What I do trust however, is Opera will do the right thing for it's userbase (250m users), and I don't care if that means WebKit, Presto or Trident (LOL...)
I'm sure the handfull of real Windows Phone users are delighted
They can buy a £400 3D printer to print a £2 case...
Is this how bad it's got? Microsoft trying to create "cool factor" with their failed products? It's Kinect all over again....
As long as my RTL F1 broadcasts are still FTA
All is good... I can live happy without the dirty feeling of lining Murdoch's evil pockets.
Re: Once again El Reg's commentards prove themselves completely divorced from the real world.
I'm guessing you havn't seen the dire Suface sales figures then....
Lol, you really believe that tripe don't you.
Nobody I know owns windows phone, you never see them out and about either.
It's a total failure.
When was the last time saw anyone with a Nokia smartphone
A barren marketplace and a non existent user base and some BS to keep shareholders happy
And Google Play is even better
As it does the same, but has more storage and no subscription fee. The quality is better to (320k)..
Windows Phone is at less than 2% and that's down since the previous year..
Is this make stuff up day?
"it's stronger than a year ago"
No it's not, Windows Phone has dropped even more marketshare than it had last year (despite new products).
""rejecting Google's Android operating system because it would have been tough differentiating its products from all the other Android handset makers."
So they adopted an OS that offers nothing in the way is differentiation (tell me how different HTC's Windows Phone is to Nokias....) Android is the ONLY platform today that offers differentiation. Samsung have done a good job of marketing theirs (Although I don't personally think they make the best Android handsets).
Windows Phone is a utter disaster, and the suggestion that they may have a plan B that involves Android should be a warning sign for any potential Windows Phone customer. (not that there at that many).
Re: android usage
Firstly, you are in London, and it's full of pathetic hipsters who all work in advertising.
Secondly, iTards are far more likely to WANT to flash their phone around, as it's a status symbol (or so they think. My builder and the chav next door have them, so it's clearly not that much status).
I work in an Engineering company, and 80% of smartphone users are Android. The 20% that aren't again work in Marketing or are too stupid or lazy to know what they want and have to be told by the telly.
Re: Apple polish.? Google already have that...
Well security on Android is just fine (unless you are a pirate and untick the option that prevents you from downloading dodgy apps from random websites). Shopping on the Google Play store is as safe as iOS. Of course AntiVirus sellers won't tell you this, so you have to suffer endless half-truths about Android Malware...
iTunes. Don't make me laugh. It's pretty clear you haven't tried Google Music.... free storage of 20,000 of your own songs, free scan and match and available to pretty much any device on the planet that has a browser. The Android Google Music app is superb. You have everything in the cloud, and pin the stuff you want to download locally to your phone, I have a "everything rated" playlist with 1000 or so tracks, pin that along with some of my other mood playlists, and voilla, I have the best of both worlds. The vast majority of music I want, on my device all the time, and ALL my music available anywhere as long as I have a data connection or have a device with a browser.
THAT is a million times more useful than needing a local music collection, and a proprietary music transfer program like iTunes...
Microsoft's deceptions aren't helping...
Most countries, Microsoft would have been in the dock over shenanigans like this...
Surely THAT'S anti-trust and deceptive right there......
fixed it for ya
Microsoft is expanding its Xbox into an all-round double-dip subscription scam with the addition of LoveFilm and TV streaming like Channel 4's 4oD service for Xbox Live Gold subscribers
Re: Off the hook...
Bring the popcorn indeed, it's likely to end up badly for Microsoft:
Most countries, Microsoft would have been in the dock over shenanigans like this...
Surely THAT'S anti-trust and deceptive right there......
Have you murdered someone? What are you hiding?
DO you really think Google are interested in where you have been? (other than the obvious, showing you location relevant adverts).
Tin foil hats allround....
is not the same as "wiggled out"... biased much???
This is the nuts of it.
“The evidence the FTC uncovered through this intensive investigation prompted us to require significant changes in Google’s business practices. However, regarding the specific allegations that the company biased its search results to hurt competition, the evidence collected to date did not justify legal action by the Commission,”
So Microsoft's claims that Google were biasing the search results to favor it's own products and services were found to be untrue.
Will Microsoft and their band of cronies be paying the legal bills?
So does Opera.
Carry on dreaming.
The only people upset about the way Android is going, are Apple and especially Microsoft (who's Windows Phone platform is still-born and hemorrhaging marketshare year on year, down from it's embarrassing 1%) ....
"keeps releasing the Android operating system that is popular but not nearly as good as Apple's iOS, and its phones/tablets that are not as good as Apple's hardware."
Go buy a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7 and you will see how ridiculous your claims are, infact buy two of each, and give out to a relative, and still have change to spare over an iPad Mini and iPhone5.
How is it Anti-trust?
They support Apple, because they have a significant marketshare.
Microsoft are NOWHERE with Windows Phone, and their marketshare is shrinking. so Google therefore don't have a requirement to support them. If they do, I demand that Google also support my Mobile phone OS I am making in my bedroom.
Reminds me of when they intentionally delivered borked content to Opera Browser...
I have a suspicion that the underlying problem is Microsoft's insistance of pushing the closed H.264 video standard. If they supported open VP8/HTML5 video, i'm guessing there wouldn't be a problem with the YouTube app.
Either way, the lack of a decent YouTube app on Windows Phone is the very least of users problems, the whole OS is shite, not just a single app.
Re: Shark. Jumped.
Apple maps ARE crap and Android DID dominate the mobile market. Not sure what your point it....
You can install Ubuntu on Nexus 7 today...
That is all.
Of course not.
Apple play games in this area, they cherrypick the £60 Supermarket tablets, the ones without Google Play store, and come with resistive touchscreens, and pretend this is the typical Android tablet experience.
The idiots that pay £400 upwards for their tablets are all to happy to believe this is the real story, when we all know it's not.
Even the most inbred Apple owners are usually impressed when I show them a jellybean powered Nexus7, and then I break the news that me and missus have 1 each, for the price they paid. They then go on to talk about having heard at a Apple conference that all Android apps are just "big smartphone apps", which again is utter bullshit and I show them the apps I use, and very few of them fit into that category. I then break the news to them that that too is a double edged sword, and they where they buy separate copies of their apps for iPhone and iPad, this is rarely the case on Android, where the single APK has both smartphone and tablet layouts included that share the same business logic. Infact Swiftkey is the only example that breaks that rule of thumb on Android.
Apple owners believe any old shit to make it seem like their overpriced tablet is worth it.
