Braindead Americans morelike.
Wake me up when you run Android on one of these, and it's £100, and I might be tempted.
As pretty much everything (including the current Transformer) has a locked bootloader too.
You can tell that Asus has become a strong force in the tablet market, as FUD like this story and this comment prove.
As there are very few GENUINE WP7 users, certainly not enough to vote en-masse and get to the top of polls (unless it's a poll hosted on some shill site like wmpoweruser.com)...
It's Microsoft, and no website can afford to upset them, however crappy their hardware products might be.
You upset Microsoft, and all of a sudden all your advertising revenue dries up.
Coincidently, of course, Microsoft sponsored the El-Reg 2010 hardware awards, and guess what won... Kinect.... say no more....
Nobody at any of these websites work for free, they all rely on a slice of the advertising pie, and they are all basically pens for hire.
Wmpoweruser.com is a viral marketing site created by Microsoft to pretend there is a grass roots usersbase of Windows Phone users, it's also a viral marketing tool to release "leaked" memos and such.
Don't believe the hype as they say...
No EPUB, no deal...
I ain't helping Amazon build an empire like iTunes.
American freetards rejoice
You will continue to be allowed to steal.
Apple says you aren't allowed to use this anymore.
Enjoy your walled garden. itards.
More Microsoft astroturfing, pretending there is a real userbase of satisified owners...
Incredibly, there is even a fake website called wmpoweruser or something, that's entirely fictional viral marketing from Microsoft pretending there is a grassroots userbase of happy WP7 owners...
Of course Microsoft pulled this same stunt with the Xbox, and got away with it, lets hope the internet citizens are slightly more clued up this time....
Ermm you don't REALLY believe those charts do you?
It's a stupid way of selling the phones they want to sell.
They want to sell Lumia to dump stock, so raise it in the charts....
Come on wake up...
Ever walked into Game/Gamestation/HMV, all their charts are the same, they games up the list are those they have lots of stock of, either because it's genuinely popular (like the Galaxy S2), or because it's crap and they have craploads of stock to shift (like the Lumia).
We all know that's the end-game plan.
Stick a handful of "ex" Microsoft bods in key places, make disastrous decisions to destroy the already lame Nokia, and then buy them up when the price is rock bottom..
Like Pirates boarding a stricken ship.
Microsoft viral marketing to the rescue
put a positive spin on bad news from an AC account...
For sure this post originated from Reading/Redmond or Finland?
The only people saying good things about Lumia are those that are paid to do so.
So in effect
Neflix is basically a pay version of Dave then....
OK then, this is even worse....
Can someone please explain
WHY I would want to pay Netflix so I can watch SOME BBC content, when I can use iPlayer for free and watch them all?
Surely this is EPIC Fail press release?
"Then there's the fact that while Transformers are robots that ingeniously 'transform' from humanoid figures into a vehicles, the Transformer Prime is a two-part unit that intentionally comes apart."
You mean it TRANSFORMS from a tablet into a netbook and vice-versa.
Hasbro don't have a let to stand on here, it's called a Transformer for that very reason, (as is their product)...
The sure sign of a successful product is when people try and sue then to get in on the action...
And even then
they couldn't shift them, which is why they figured they might as well sell none for full price, rather than none for £119...
Just in case some idiot stumbles though the door drunk on Xmas eve....
Paris, as even she is not dumb enough to buy a Microsoft phone...
I am Barry Shitpeas, protector of common sense, deflector of bullshit.
Why class actions fail
because any idiot will jump aboard the free classaction train incase they get a freebie out of it.
There is nothing stopping you suing Sony as in individual for whatever you may think they have done, however you will have to hire and pay for a lawyer to do so.
That's the way it should be. And that's why the European legal system isn't totally fucked up like the American one....
The only people complaining about this, are lame American freetards.
More idiots wasting their time and money.
They only bought the PS3, PSN is a free to use online service that is not part of PS3, and has it's own T&C which you are free to accept or decline, your choice....
Microsoft's online service also has exactly the same T&C (worded slightly differently, but amounts to the same)
Ever used a T-Mobile phone? Guess what, identical T&C even the wording... (i'm guessing same legal company)...
"CLASS ACTION WAIVER. WE EACH AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEEDINGS, WHETHER IN ARBITRATION OR COURT, WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT IN A CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION OR AS A MEMBER IN A CLASS, CONSOLIDATED OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. If a court or arbitrator determines in an action between you and us that this waiver is unenforceable, the arbitration agreement will be void as to you. If you chose to pursue your claim in court by opting out of the arbitration provision as specified above, this Class Action Waiver provision will not apply to you. Neither you, nor any other customer, can be a class representative, class member, or otherwise participate in a class, consolidated, or representative proceeding without having complied with the opt out requirements above."
Who wants to bet..
Mike Lee and Senator Herb Kohl have plenty of Apple stock......
The 3DS was massively hyped and didn't deliver
The PS Vita hasn't been hyped (as it will be supply constrained) and DOES deliver.
$1.70 worth more like..
Really have RIM resorted to pay for gangs to steal them to ditch inventory.
Just unlock the bootloader so we can load Android on them if you are that desperate....
Hmm, not seeing that here
I'm guessing you just made that up.
plus EU import duty
for non EU goods.
There are far too many idiots that think it's the manufacturers that are at fault for overpriced US-EU conversions, and think it's just a case of converting the exchange rate.
All the prices they quote are always US excluding sales tax, yet ours include it, and they also fail to take into account the taxes levied on companies that want to sell in the EU but manufacture outside of it. Both of these together are in the region of 30% of the selling price.
Still it's the easiest way to spot an idiot....
Sony, Kobo, Nook and the other 176 EPUB based readers all use EPUB with Adobe Digital Editions DRM, their content is interchangable.
That means you can buy books form
and many more. Many of these also have deals. There is also 4x the content on EPUB (3m books), Kindle has about 750k according to Amazon.
Really I don't understand why anyone with a brain would buy a Kindle, as the Kobo is not only cheaper, it's better, it's more open and has more content.
RIM's problems go from bad to worse...
Once the buisness mobile, then the chav mobile, now the porno channel.,
RIM are done for.
Surely some mistake?
Arc S, £300, 90% El-Reg rating, yet not included, despite plenty of mediocre 80% ers and a lame iPhone 4s....
I mean move that 5, there is enough for all GENUINE Windows Phone owners.
Who got screwed?
Not me, I have had 5 years of unbelievably great gaming, Blu-Ray, 3D, loads of IPTV features, many added since new, all free.
The only people telling you that you got screwed, as the ones that benefit from you thinking that (Microsoft usually).
This whole gaming generation has been about Microsoft using every tactic possible to try and get a foothold and make gamers think that the PS3 isn't as great as the PS2 was.
The reality is, the formula that made the PS2 so fantastic was applied to the PS3, and the only losers are the gamers that can't see that or refuse to believe it, and actively go out of their way to play on inferior systems and pay to play online on laggy P2P networks.
Of course Microsoft have recently refocused their viral marketing target, as the Xbox now has a foothold, but the EXACT same tricks are being used to try and get Windows Phone 7 a foothold on which to build. Take a look at the "badmouth Android on twitter and win a Windows Phone" bribery to see how publicly desperate and low Microsoft are.
Running on my Asus Transformer and my Sony Arc S
0.99p each in effect.
the 5 GENUINE Win Phone 7 users will love it.
As anyone that's not rewritten history will know that GeoHot was using the Hypervisor to try and break the PS3 in Jan 2010 well before OtherOS was removed.
OtherOS was removed in firmware 3.21, released April 1st 2010
If you are upset about this, GO BLAME HIM.
If you ever actually tried booting a full Linux desktop on it (I did), you would know how useless it really was... Like running Ubuntu 11 on a Pentium2. It was RAM limited, and running through a hypervisor, took about 60 seconds to boot to the desktop, and Firefox ran like a total dog.
Sure there were academics and military uses for the incredible numbercrunching potential of the cell, and ran a base kernel and basic shell, but nobody that wanted to use PSN would ever need that.
The whole thing IS/WAS a storm in a teacup, and the tech media should be ashamed of making it out to be anything else. El-Reg were big players in hyping this up, and in doing so destroyed their credibility for a very long time afterwards.
It was never an advertised feature.
Show me a TV advert or anything on the box that pushes it as a feature. YOU CAN'T... About the most I have ever seen was a 1-liner mention of it in the handbook and a very naff community website to support it.
It's a bonus feature, and it was withdrawn the moment GeoHot used it to try and crack the system open for piracy.
WP7 needs a full wipe and factory reset.
if you get this SMS. That is a remote exploit. It's great fun, in the unlikely event you know someone with a Windows Phone.
You can also bet this is just the tip of the iceberg, and more exploits will be discovered on a weekly basis, just like Windows...
I'm guessing by everybody
you mean everyone at the Reading campus...
Looking at the number of Microsoft shills here in maximum protection mode, it's scary how much viral marketing they are flooding the interwebs with.
Good job there are still SOME of us immune to it.
he forgot to tick the Anonymous Coward tickbox, and one of their hundreds of MS shill accounts just got compromised.
Too bad they didn't use Opera, Chrome, or Firefox, as it would take 10 seconds to make an extension that ticked the AC tickbox as standard.
Ironic that WP7 has just been hit my a remote exploit malware that means you need to hard reset your phone.
I don't think it gets any more EPIC FAIL than that.
NPD is NORTH American only. i.e. United States and Canada, which is why both these companies love to quote NPD in everything, as it includes a vast proportion of sales that buck the global trend.
How hard it it to comprehend?
"The NPD Group, Inc. (formerly National Purchase Diary) is a leading North American market research company. "
So bribing users
to make up stories about Android malware to win a phone that they can't sell for love or money isn't bribery and it's not viral marketing?
What planet do you live on?
This is almost as low as Microsoft have ever sunk (in public at least, most of their usual viral marketing, as I guess you know, happens undercovers).
WOW EPIC FAIL
on the same day Microsoft launched it's viral hate campaign against Android on twitter using it's army of braindead marketing drones bribed with the chance to win a WIndows Phone 7 that had the shop dust brushed off of it...
All the while
the world is watching Windows Phone spectacularly fail, and we are all laughing our socks off and Microsoft and Nokias desperation...
Extreme desperation from Microsoft...
Anyone else, you wouldn't believe it. Microsoft, you can totally believe it....
in me says that was orchestrated by the sellers of Android security products, in an aim to prove one IS needed.
Thats how low they sink...
Could they stop it?
I mean the EU comission stoping a US company buying another US company?
I think not....
Indeed 250m users can't be wrong...
Something this "report" seems to somehow conveniently forget.
Here you go. some INDEPENDANT results...
They left out Opera, which has historically had the best security track record of them all... Seems like an intentionally knobbled set of results.
How can they claim that when Google sponsored it, and they excluded a browser that sits of the tree for security, that it's impartial. Here are some results based on the real world...

80% for real?
for a console that plays at sub-optimum resolutions, needs a top notch broadband, costs £70 for the hardware, then top-dollar for the games, plus a pricey uncapped broadband package....
Is this some kind of joke? Did someone accidentally put a 0 on the end of the score? Or has someone fallen so in love with the IDEA of streaming gaming, that they are willing to ignore the obvious problems...
Every iPhone upto the 4s has Carrier IQ included as standard. Apple so far are the ONLY manufacturer to force it onto users.
All the other installs of Carrier IQ were not done my the phone manufacturers but by the networks...
Fantastic reader + more content than Kindle + no lockin
Kobo has 3m titles up for grabs vs Kindle's 750k.
With identical hardware to the £89 kindle, but £20 cheaper, more content and NO lock-in, it's a no brainer surely?
