Google = evil empire?

I'm very careful about revealing any info on a Google service it gets stored away indefinately get in to dashboard and delete it away and why do they want my mobile number? they won't get it .!

Respect to Wil having been a child star it takes a lot of fortitude to become a respected adult actor. There is a huge list of child stars that never achieved their potential with that particular Albatross hanging round their necks, plus he seems to enjoy playing the darker characters great in both TBBT and Eureka

Windows 3.1 rebooted: Microsoft's DOS destroyer turns 20

Re: I had WfW3.11

It rather depended on what programs you were running, the weak spot of the Cyrix was the coprocessor (maths processor as we used to call it) if you ran anything that depended on it you were dead in the water. However gamers were very fond of them supplied at very low prices they could outperform intel chips costing nearly twice as much but only if your game liked them and most did it was a no brainer. did you ever come across the SGS Thomson 486 DX 2 80 that was a big surprise the 40mhz bus plus some trick internals meant it benchmarked nearer to the 486 DX4 120 billy bargain chip!

Re: memmaker

Worth remembering that Microsoft gave a clear message about their predatory intents by ensuring that DRDos Windows users could not use Smartdrive to cache effectively hobbling performance. DRDos was hugely frugal by loading memory resident programmes into legacy reserved areas of memory it freed up base memory easily. Using memmaker was more of a black art to get anything like the results of DRDos you needed to load programs in the correct order to fit the available spaces in the the upper memory blocks..

Big Brother

certifiable users

We are all shredding our documents hiding PIN's and setting privacy filters so why on gods earth would anybody outside of an asylum let a giant unaccountable corporation in a foreign land have access to our money in addition to , all our history, personal details, browsing, searching blogging , access to website purchasing information and location? Google are trying it though they have no published plans to become a bank ....yet! I've spent twenty minutes disabling features on a phone and they still managed to pass all my contact details through their server time has come to say enough unless you already have an apple/google barcode tattooed on the back of your neck.

So, what IS the worst film ever made?

Delbert
FAIL

So bad it transcends cult status

When you get a faux horror musical that the fans hate the band hates and the general audience detest what more can you say. Well if you can last 20 minutes unaided by alcohol or psychotropic drugs please visit a psychiatrist the movie -

"Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park"

you can add to a lesser degree each time "Steve ( I used to be funny on SNL) Martin" takes an icon and besmirches it with a remake or in case of Bilko a travesty there can be no excuse especially when you crayon in the script.

George Lucas: 'No more Star Wars'

The Farce is Strong in this one

When you make a series of movies based on adult oriented action- based themes it shows a degree of arrogance when you tag three more on that would not challenge a five year old and are surprised that you are royally criticised for not keeping the faith with the audience that made it possible who btw have got older not regressed into childhood. The world moved on after the Empire Strikes Back and merchandising became important to the profitability of film but that cannot excuse creating cutesy charactors that have no right in scifi aside from excrable Disney flicks to snag the adolescents into collecting more tatt he cries art-house and yet produces sales orientated pulp. I will not shed a tear at the news I cannot see anything good coming if he continued just more boxed set limited edition collectibles.

Quid Pro Quo

So by extension if I take out and order against the CEO of a large American Company which has infringed my rights by illegally modifying software on my computer and others in the UK (said company has already been found in breach of European Law ) will he be extradited by Dave Cameron's legal team, TBH I don't expect Bill Gates to start sweating anytime soon

You cant fight technology

I've had the same issues I drive a MAN truck with Euro IV compliant technology. Once the ecu decides there is a fault it disables the engine and may take several reboots of the system to drive away . However if there is a sensor out of range it simple will not start. That can be as simple as the temperature spike when the engine is shut off after a run not really what you can call progress and yes I have been stranded by it thankfully not on train tracks.

Ofcom squeezes local TV into 20 cities' tight White Spaces

Delbert
Unhappy

why?

I have cable and several hundred channels to access but the content is simply not there. Most is simply recycled tripe anything the least bit notable is available on three different channels .We simply do not need more channels we need fewer and ditch the endless repeats for new material

rather than further diluting the revenue stream .

Intelligence

I suppose it has to be asked who supplied the url to Google? I have to say I am very tempted to download the page and use it as wallpaper on my android pad , but backdoors and shortcuts are what information seeking is all about. Who has not when confronted with Error 404 rather than run back to google had a little search around with alternate url's they would expect to find and found themselves on pages not normally accessible or in Nerdvana in FTP heaven with direct access to page source files?

Harry Potter director takes on Doctor Who movie

Bovverd - not

So a big screen production of a classic TV show? any actor with two brain cells to rub together will know what Hollywood's track record is and also the expression 'bad career move' which leaves Steve Martin who is really very good at burying classic TV and Movies without a trace the perfect murder!

Funny thought though the Dr has always been idiosyncratic a little odd or off the wall crazy ...and I understand Mr Charlie Sheen is available

Gov reduces e-petitions to public spleen-venting exercise

Delbert

PR exercise

If you had any dealings with this huge waste of time and resources under the previous government you would have no doubt what it was. Even petitions with massive support were ignored with subscribers receiving platitudes via email which said in a nutshell what the govt's policy was, that they were elected and no matter how many told them where to stick it they had the mandate and thanks for being gullible. I had hoped the new govt would have allowed free votes on matters of great concern but it doesn't really look like it.

US Navy in new electromagnetic railgun milestone

Delbert

Enough to boil a very big kettle

Looking at the cabling attached to the gun it poses the question just how much energy does it require to discharge? and secondly where is that going to from onboard a ship somehow I don't think duracell batteries are quite big enough. Moving projectiles is always a question of stored energy so far I cannot see and alternative to chemical energy that is effective.

Linehan turns IT Crowd off but NOT on again

On the other hand

I imagine his work with Count AS will not be humour related as I have yet to hear the alleged funny man actually do anything remotely connected with comedy and I include the radio series which inexplicably was given a further season . I rather hear mimes on radio 4

Ping is not everything

I'm about due for the annual run of outages that seems to plague VM/Mercury/ C&W or whoever the hell else they have been over my subscription. The ping is now worse than it was 5 years ago never getting into single figures and this year packet losses have prevented me playing my favourite and very undemanding game UT which was smooth as milk on a 1gb cable typically at between 5 and 12ms now I have to exist with 55- 115ms progress? then I'm a banana --- oh and before somebody tries to shift the blame most of the delays are clearly internal VM routing issues try explaining that to the drones in the asian subcontinent call centres

Nipples and teen lesbians sexy even when ironic, ASA rules

can we protest

It's a historical fact in the UK that a disproportionate amount of credence is given to the wishes of a tiny minority of 'moral guardians' unelected protectors of the majority its a pity there is no way to answer back to put things into perspective like pointing out that free choice is just that free . if you don't want to know about a game with pixelated naked dancers then look away. 50 million viewers swayed by the wishes of a few hundred.

I'm likely to be on that list I do not, have not, will not use spottything I have no use for it and accounts elsewhere in fact I'm an admin at Classicrockradio.eu (shameless plug) but when I found an unknown and obviously unasked for button on farcebook (which is what it has become) I took a look and OMG I have a list of favourites ? of boy bands and pop wananbees which seem to have been trawled from the fetid stinking imagination of a troll in denial, interesting for a committed rock fan they'd put up bulls***t no doubt in and effort to goad me well they did I goed somewhere else. Funny thing though if they had assumed permissions(which farcebook seems to be giving away ) it is bloody obvious to all but a retard what I listen to.

Ten... all-in-one inkjet printers

Delbert
Holmes

Why not

Looking through the list one thought keeps recurring why would I buy an inkjet from this selection ? I couldn't think of a reason, the only one that was outstanding was the HP office and that was serious overkill for a home user. So for the money I'm likely to get a colour laser no problems with ink drying if I don't use it for several weeks and cost effective. Bit of a no brainer really unless you want a cheap throwaway model.

Prototype iPhone 5 lost in bar, right on schedule

Delbert

lost? really?

Now we know about Apple's no longer secret tracking of their devices how is it possible to 'lose' one did it accidentally fall into a lead lined box, did Mr Faraday leave the door to his cage open and it just bounced in? More likely is this just an example of iFree iViral advertising designed to get iDiots salivating about the iMpending reduction of their bank account.

Moving cursor on screen?

Moving a cursor about on screen is a nonstarter? there speaks a man that obviously has not experienced the wonders of a digital set or cable TV . When you have used clunky equivalents of tabbing to navigate menus one step at a time then surely a joystick or track ball has to be an improvement, the facility is already there on many remote controls with the navigation jog button .

Just a question of getting the software to default cursor movement to the buttons or hot areas of the screen- well its not rocket science is it?

UK's first Stealth fighter in successful catapult test

Delbert

Stealthy

Its really an interesting concept buy a stunningly expensive fighter aircraft to be used against an enemy which will not put aircraft in the air after hostilities are declared if recent conflicts are to be the norm. Probably the only countries in the world who might risk a fighter war would be Israel who last time I checked we were not at war with and maybe North Korea. Would anybody like to start a war with Kim's finger on the trigger of a nuclear arsenal I'd rather hope only in a (puppet) movie. Which rather leaves Iran who seem to be going the route of long range anti aircraft missiles and UAV's ?

Retrograde backward advances?

Why would I 'upgrade' to an OS that will leverage me into replacing my hardware with items that are 'fully' compatible when I can continue to use a system that works without change 4 years after I built it. I won't signup to .Net or Silverlight because I don't need them or the intrusions they 'provide'. I reckon three years is long enough for me to find a viable alternative I've a phone and a Pad both using Android which for a very young OS seems quite efficient and stable with a very low resource requirement and an HTPC a work in progress with Linux on board do I need a massive bill for an OS with no advantages aside from eye candy -can't see it myself.

Virgin Media blames Activision for Call of Duty lag problems

Willy waving and VM

Hardware issues aside it makes little difference what video card -new fast improved or five years old, multi core processor or other peripheral you are using aside from a decent network card and router on your home network. That is where the problems with VM lie and it has got progressively worse over the last few years. I play UT on a PC a game that is ancient in FPS terms and the ping has plummeted from low twenties to an average around 100ms with packet loss that frequently makes gaming a joke. Dead before you can move from the spawn point. At 2meg I was punching my weight and winning regularly at 10meg I get games that I cannot get a frag score above evens. Periodically I phone halfwits in a call centre 3 continents away I have had a VM engineer stood with me explaining what the issue was while a card reading git denied any problem existed.

report card: could do better -if they actually did anything at all.
