Top level domain explosion could wreak MAYHEM on NET

Thumb Down

Kindof Sucks

I know the internet is a "free market". It's capitalism working and making people tons of money, and there's nothing wrong with that. But it's really sucks when all the top level companies out there will be able to control every word they want to online because they are the only people that can afford 185,000 dollars price tag to register. I can't imagine this will help the internet at all. It will just allow a big name bank to get the name "bank" and be even more powerful.

Just another thought.

In the google browser, you do searches by typing into the url field. If what you type has a .com, or .net, etc.. you'll be taken to the site. If what you put in doesn't have a .com, or .net, etc.. if will take you to a google search. So what if someone just types in "banks". Where will google take you to if this new system takes effect? What about the competition.

I just can't see how this will help the internet do anything. It's just a way for ICANN to make millions.

what's to accept??

I like buying the new versions. Wish they would come out with a whole new one every year. What's so hard about handing over 30 dollars. Nothing. It supports your chosen brand. (Mac or Windows). Mac users don't pay for updates. There can be hundreds of new updates throughout the year...all free. But a major release you should pay for. Why run an outdated system? Right now Microsoft is forcing all it's users to update if they want to use IE 9. You need windows 7. Why, because the old piece of junk can't keep up with the new technology. Same with Mac. Tiger is an old piece of junk so you have to update to use the new technology. I have no problem with Windows or Mac. Both platforms work just fine, I just like mac more. But I don't want to pay 80-100 dollars to upgrade my windows xp to windows 7. But I'm happy to pay 30 to upgrade to the latest version of the mac. And I think the Mac is the better investment :)

Cloud iTunes DESTROYS music business FOREVER!

WTF?

I like

I like Steven Tyler, Bryan Adams, Celion and hundreds more from symphony composers to hard rock. I'm a heart surgeon. Please tell me how listening to this music makes me mindless, or how you are in anyway qualified to call anything mindless. Or for that matter who are you to decide if someone is talented enough, and who deserves their 15 minutes of fame...or more. I like what Apple has done. I don't have to buy an entire cd with songs I do not like and instead can opt to buy the one song I do like. I like that I can sample music from iTunes from artists I've never heard of before, who are trying to make it, I like it when I find someone, or a song, I've never heard of and can download that song and it cost 99 cents to $1.27. I like even more that anything I have wifi / bluetooth setup on can receive the songs I did purchase. But what I like the most is that people, who you say, have no talent, do not need to use the music industry anymore and can instead use Apple to live their dream. Many have become known because of it.
