Where to begin...
Do I start with the old, crap, outdated joke, or the spelling...?
Hmm...

SOME Smart TV's... so far.
I've just been onto Samsung, and it turns out that only 7000+8000 models are being updated at the moment.
They 'have plans' to update other models and BR players, but no date.
So that's months away then, if they can be bothered, given the speed other bug fixes have arrived...
This is not impressive Samsung... Announce that 'it is available' and I'm still waiting...
For NW benefit, it's a 6530 40"-er... Just done a manual update via USB to the latest FW available from Samsung for my tv, took it to ....018... brilliant. and it was dated today!
Not impressed Samsung, not impressed...
This is the longest single generation in console history... how is MS 'shortcutting' anything? And why would it force Sony's hand, unless they are admitting they made a booboo releasing so late last time?
And who is to say they will stop support once the new on is released? They have siad time and again both will live along side each other, just as sony have.
Come on Barry, stop posting AC... :D
Anyone else remember the original specs for botht he big ones?
Sony had dual HDMI's, 4 usbs too wasnt' it? oh, and the linux. Promised simultaneous 1080p on dual screens...
And microsoft inferred their console wouldn't try and fry itself...
Wonder what outlandish claims we'll get this time?
'bout time, wanting the next gen now... Fancy a treat for myself this christmas... I suspect the xbox might make it in time...
What?
Just, what?
Are you saying that microsoft are unique in saying that their next product will be better than the current one?
When wp7 came out, and people slated it for it's shortcomings, they said it would be fixed in the next version.
the vast majority were. But still, some shortcomings exist, so they say that they will appear in future versions.
Are apple or google any different? Better phones, computers, consoles cars, printers, tables, lights, teapots, taps, carpets come along all the time.
As for your last paragraph, when did MS say that? In fact, they have gone out of their way to say the opposite, seeing as they make great strangth of not needing dual core for this os.
Other than that, great post.
In call skype is p2p... the skype servers only act as 'connectors', once up and running the connection is direct.
If anyone has an issue in call, then I suspect that it is down to their or other party's connection.
I'm not defending MS with skype, merely pointing out that they simply have had any chance to screw it up yet...
@ Fats:
Who are these people then? Cos I certainly aint.
I post to try and balance the crap #some# people post, but I think I'm pretty balanced, having used WP and android a lot, and as I explained in another thread, use an android modded touchpad, linux in my work as well as Macs and Windows stuff.
Excuse me, just how has MS 'ruined' skype after it's purchase? It's only just gone through approval, they couldn't do ANYTHING with it in that time... so what has changed? I haven't seen anything?
Metro UI #unintuitive'? I think you may have to turn thre phone on, or remove your gloves, as everyone else thinks it's the most intuitive ui ever on a smart phone.
Or are you comparing it to Android? With it's millions of different interfaces, no standard design or user style...
Yeah, that must be it...
Again, troll if you will, but at least back it up with supportable argument.
Insiders?
Are you a journalist?
Or just Mr Ballmer/Mr Shitpeas posted as AC now, cos the story got sooo feckin old...
Anyway, as o2 clearly priced them deliberately at a level to make it appear unsellable...
I wanted one, but they wouldn't budge on their stupidly high website prices, despite me being with them for 6 years, and being out of contract.
Who are these 'people' you talk of? I don't even know who this bell pottinger is, and I can't even be arsed to google it.
People like yourself have absolutely no interest in a balanced argument, only shouting your own point louder and louder until you are the only one in the room, and you consider that a victory.
You seem to construe meanings from my posts that simply aren't there, and make them fit your own argument, with no relation to the actual intent.
How does my mention of 'usually osx or windows' imply a 'fairly large selection of "other"'?
It simply doesn't. Another example of shouting at yourself in a large empty room. It inplies that when you buy a laptop, you have a choice of at least two OS's. If you want another choice, seek out a laptop that has that option. Don't buy a laptop that ships WITH WINDOWS, then blame MS for forcing it on you.
I see no-one slating Apple for 'forcing' osx down your throat? Oh but can you resell that license? No, thought not.
Yes, MS were agressive in the early netbook days, but you know what? Consumers CHOSE windows, cos the linux alternatives that were about then, were shit. How do I know? Cos I bought two of the buggers, so don't say I'm some sort of 'shill'. Both my fairly technically literate wife, and my technically illterate mother hated it. So I stuck xp on them, and suddenly they could use them again.
I tried linux. I still do occasionally. I don't doubt it works.
For the record, I use a dell laptop with windows on it, cos it was cheap, does what I want, and I work with Windows, so it pays me to keep up my skills. I use linux occasionally as I come accross it in work scenarios. I also sometimes come accross Macs. I like Apple hardware. It's well made. I don't like Apple as a marketing machine. They have become everything that MS were at their worst. I've had android phones, I've had windows phones, and WM's, i also have a Wii, PS3 and a 360.
So what sort of shill does tha make me again?
At least I have the nerve to state my allegances, my biases, and my logic for all to see, as well as stick to the same name and account, never posting under anon, or other means.
This really isn't that hard...
An OEM copy is a CHEAPER version of the full product ties to a single machine. If you want to resell a copy of windows, buy a full retail copy. The OEM is cheaper (substantially) for a reason.
The car analogy isn't valid either. If you buy a full price car, do with it as you want. But if I buy a subsidised car (PHP, or PCH) then I am not free to do with it as I want. But I get it cheaper.
And as I said before, if yuo want a laptop without Windows, buy one without windows. Don't look to buy one that has it, then moan.
How about you try to buy a macbook without OSX? And don't tell me it's free, it's just built into the price, you know, like Windows is.
The differencebeing of course, is that I can buy a PC spec laptop without Windows. Maybe not the exact one I want, but hey, that's supply and demand. If enough people wanted them, they would be there.
Dell tried, remember?
Flame away.
Sorry, but you are NOT forced to 'pay the price'.
If YOU choose to buy a laptop from a shop, first off, you DO have a choice, usually Windows or OSX. At least with Windows you get a far greater choice of config.
Secondly, if you really want an OS free device, choose one that ships in that way. Just because the shops that YOU choose to buy from don't shop the laptop YOU want to buy in the configurationYOU want, don't blame MS for that...
A sense of ethics?
What are you on about? Are you suggesting that it is unethical of MS to charge for the use of their IP? Perhaps they should take the apple or motorla route and just ban any sales of such infringing devices? Cos that makes it much fairer dor the sonsumer doesn't it? Just plain restrict choice.
And since when did laptop users pay a 'tax'? If you want to make a stupid point, at least try and back it up with sense.
Wow... just wow.
Can't believe how many are so anti MSm purely for the sake of it.
Without exception, every person I've shown WP7 to has liked it. Not all to the point of changing, but not one has said 'urghh'.
A couple have said they prefer the 'manageability' of android, a fair point. But NONE have said it's 'awful' or 'dreadful'.
The comments here merely expose the anti ms brigade for what they are. At least have the nerve to try a product before you slate it.
Yes, Barry, I'm looking at you.
You quote 'any recent SE Androids' as beating the 6 hour quote, then say they are quoting 6-7 hours... so, the same, or maybe slightly better. Possibly.
And that is your proof for saying 'lot's of them'?
And BTW, for what it's worth, whilst I believe your phone MIGHT go 9-10 days on standby (although I doubt it, unless you live under the mast...) I refuse to believe that you have done ANYTHING resembling 'smartness' with it in those 10 days...!!!
That's not a dig at SE, or android, just a comment on the state of play in smartphones generally.
I presume that's 6 hours of talk time?
Good god, how much do you need in a day? And saying that, which recent smartphone has better?
Certainly not the iphone 4s, or recent 'droids, with the possible exception of the defy+ with it's mahoosive battery...
If you pine for the days of s60 battery life and efficiency, then you better get a s60 phone while you still can...
It's a pity that so many people are so against WP7 without ever having tried it. Having come from android (and before that wm6) it 'just works', something that any phone should do.
It will eventually gain traction, as I personally know 2 people that have moved from idevices to the new nokia, and as it happens, more people will see it IS a good OS.
I wanted a new nokia, but the hardware specs didn't hit the mark for me, wanted that front facing camera, so I'm waiting for the 900 range to hit, and I'll be upgrading from my LG Optimus, still a very decent phone now.
Just bog off... your trolling is astonishing, and I'm sure the reg only put up with it because it creates responses like mine... You talk absolute tosh, just desperate to have a go at anything microsoft.
Just TRY the OS... go on, dare you. Yuu obviously haven't because each of the points you suggest are complete tosh.
Mango addresses multi tasking, as far as it needs to, copy and paste works just fine, OS bloated and sluggish??? Which phone are you using ffs??? Battery life is substantially better in dame use examples than the android phone it replaced.
The issue here isn't about value access, it's about someone like me, who never normally needs outside access, but finds themselves somewhere with a need for a few minutes, and with billing via skype, for a few minutes use, is convenient and secure.
Why buy a sim card that gets used once and forgotten or lost? Why buy a dongle and forget to carry it for the odd occasion you need it...
It's about convenience and choice is all...
If you want value, look elsewhere, it's not pretending to be cheap.
Because the point here is that you can use your Skyoe credit to purchase the wifi time without having to sign up to something else.
You don't use the wifi time to #only# use skype, it just uses it as a method of paying. You can use the connection for anything.
Yes, it is a bit pricey, but I suppose for convenient, quick, on the go access, it's a nice option to have.
