Hacker defaces Irish Catholic paper: 'Gotta love false hope'

I would have stopped at "totally irrational and unfounded belief", since all the "worldly" transgressions of religious institutions really originate from that fundamental requirement to convince yourself you believe something which can't be justified with factual evidence or the rational thought process.

Poor wording, perhaps "scientifically feasible" would be more accurate. As in, keeping the handwavium and technobabble to a minimum.

LulzSec hacks EVE Online as rampage goes on

Black Helicopters

Because Sony

CCP hf. (the company behind EVE Online) announced an exclusive deal with Sony for its upcoming console MMOFPS game. Sony and their allies have been targeted by LulzSec from the start. Likewise, Mojang (the Minecraft guys) are bringing Minecraft mobile to the Sony's phone/portable console thing (Xperia?) only at first.

Sounds like a more plausible explanation than targets being picked at random.

WTF?

I don't get it

I still don't get it, are these people making a giant joke and a mockery of themselves, or are they really, seriously arguing over the scientific classification of a ball of rock and ice 30 AU away?

Come on, it's not like Pluto suddenly became less significant and important just because it was classified in a way that makes sense and is consistent with the definitions of space objects.

China sets out space-station plan, asks public to name it

re: 'Tiananmen'

'Heavenly peace' does indeed sound like a fitting and well-wishing name for a space station, a symbol of peaceful space exploration and the combined effort in advancing humanity as a species. Knowing China, they may as well go full Orwellian and call it just that.

"Everywhere"

'Everywhere' as in Windows, GNU/Linux, Mac OSX, iOS, Blackberry, Android and Windows Phone 7. I don't see why they would support their direct competitors in the dedicated eBook reader market, though. Besides, you're free to use DRM-free books that work on just about any hardware if you're that bothered by it.

ePub

Yes, and those non-DRM ePubs can be easily converted to a kindle-compatible format (.mobi) using free software.

Japanese nuke meltdown may be underway

Megaphone

re: barkingmad

That may have to do with nutcases claiming this was a second Tschornobyl (or a second Hiroshima, usw, for that matter). It is a contained incident and it's nowhere near as catastrophic as the rest of the earthquake/tsunami damage. Unfortunately, it'll make the public even more panicky and hysterical about humanity's most clean and efficient energy source.
