The Burning Question is:
Who invited him in the first place?
OH MY GOD!
IT HAS ROUNDED CORNERS! Blasphemy!
No, really it looks pretty good - where is that give-a-way HP tablet anyway? - however just purchased an Acer Iconia Tab last night and haven't gotten over the giggles yet. Finally priced a bit more sane @$399 as of yesterday. Oh and fondleslab is right - very sexy lol.
I have tried creating a spaghetti monster with pasta, cooked and uncooked - it just falls apart during takeoff or would kill/injure my legonauts upon return to earth!
Evidently my skills are lacking or faith not intense enough... Perhaps this is a job for the Iberian Space Administration? Proving the existence to the Flying Spaghetti Monster would seem to be a priority mission for the intrepid white-coated engineers from the ISA.
A FSM returning from orbit would fill the tables at the Buca di Fagachini Italian restaurant after the Happy FSM Hour service. Authentic Italian party poppers anyone?
Never, ever, bring up a SouthPark reference n a British IT site... you will take a beating from both atheists, Christians, AND the Jedi it seems.. I got it, I got it! Have Mercy!
and how SouthPark already covered the Flying Spaghetti Monster in 2006 - "I will crush the Time Child's skull on my tummy"..... loved it.
I don't subscribe to organized religion - What I believe is between me and Him, no need to wear a special club jacket or tinfoil hats lol.
Science Be Praised!
Richard Dawkins, showed them the way -- and how it is OK to be a dick to people you don't agree with......
p.s. The sea otters had the correct answer to the Great Question IMO.....
I'm still trying to find out if Amazon's new tablet is going to use color e-ink or even if that tech will be ready (read display paint response times). The continuous IP lawsuits are getting kinda ridiculous - new day, new lawsuit... yawn.
All the Better to Sue You with, My Dear
Not that I support cyber stalking, but this will be used as a tool for lawyers to extract mo' money out of the target who enabled this to happen to some poor anguished soul.
I was hoping for frosted brownies... but I do see milk is available...
Go to any farmer's co-op and buy 24-4-D - yeah sure it's in an unmarked jug with MSDS sheets attached and no advertising of any sort, but will kill anything that grows in your gravel driveway or anywhere else you want moonscape. Good stuff, has agent orange in it and just be careful getting it on you while filling up your sprayer - burns just a bit. About $40 for 2.5 gallons.
I liked the WSJ report where they called Apple 'the Cupertino-based California gadget maker' better. Perfect chance to pee in some fanbois' tofu this morning and the Reg missed it.
I blame Sarah Bee. Totally her fault for abandoning us....
Speaking of caves....
I would absolutely love to build (dig? blast?) a Hobbit Burrow to live in and use geothermal power to take me off the grid. One day.......
The US Federal Government
Does not consider Americans to be citizens The US Dept of Education bought shotguns a last year... What, pray tell, do they need weapons for? Drones for local cops and toys to record the contents of your phone on a traffic stop. I got pulled over for window tint - which was fine the previous three years I've owned the truck - gave me a warning even though there are cars in the police station parking lot with darker tint than mine... Basically a fishing expedition on their part. More and more intrusion into the lives of so-called citizens. Lastly, I offer the molestations of TSA as another fine example of governmental overreach and the projection of power over the citizenry.
In other words, don't feel special.
That's backup stuff - machetes are good too. Problem with your method is that you will have zombie mobs at first, thus the need for rapid fire weapons and lots of bullets. I'm set up to reload too... I have stuff like horse-pulled farm implements that can be pulled by an ATV until the gas runs out too...
Ok maybe I think too much.
Didn't think that post deserved an down-vote either, felt it was pretty light hearted in content. Just disagreed with the blanket statement, any blanket statement in fact. There are always exceptions big and small.
I own several 'guns', yet I haven't killed anyone yet - have had them for years in fact yet I still think. I think about things all the time and have really noticed any interference. Odd, eh?
Besides, with that attitude, you're fucked when the zombie apocalypse comes... yeah, didn't think about that one, did ya?
I paid $19.95 for Netscape 2.0 in 1995. Microsoft Internet Explorer 1.0 was a total POS installed on Windows 95 and Netscape was worth every penny. Hehe, remember back when people used ftp? When Microsoft released Internet Explorer 3.0, I was one of the first Midnight Madness downloaders (got the t-shirt to prove it lol) because it was new and free, having something different back then was exciting because you didn't have this smorgasbord of choices.... outside of the Apple Orchard that is. When MS released Windows 98, they integrated IE - side note: Windows 98SE is to Win98 was what Windows 7 is to Vista Business+ (vista home was borderline obscene).
It was then Netscape was forced to give their browser/email suite away to compete, driving them out of business. There is such a thing as karmic justice and old Bill has a lot to answer for. I positively loved Netscape, I still have install .exe's for several versions, and often skin my Firefox with a Netscape-like look. The Netscape shooting-star-N still makes me smile - Cookie Monster's eyes are staring me in the face right now... for the love of God I don't remember why...
Anyway, Remain Calm and Carry On. (I want one of those posters man)... I didn't down-vote you my friend btw, just elicited memories of long ago when the Internet was innocent and you had to ftp your data rather than email to damn thing (stupid humans!!!) 4 boot floppies for loading the cd for Win NT 4.0 (remember the video card trick when you installed a new card?), 13 floppies for Win 95, like 26 for Win98 lmao....
lol I wondered.....
Had a Win7Pro machine flake out yesterday, you know, "it was fine Friday when I left" type of call. Went into safe mode and put a pre-Trendmicro version of HijackThis on it, doing my usual smart bastard 'fsck this, fsck you" removal of registry entries of the usual suspects. This thing looked like Google shiite all over it.... Rinse. Repeat, Reboot. System all better.
Google is really starting to get on my nerves, they have surpassed Symantec with the about of absolute unneeded crap they install.
Have you not noticed....
Apps and various update .exe's like to live/run from there too.
1. Charge her with Contempt of court.
2. Arrest and process her.
3. Put her in the prison orange jumper (or equivalent).
4. Trot her back to court for original charge and contempt of court charge.
When setting up BGP for an ISP
Always remember: Copy Start Run
That is all.
Guess I better get started now for the Patch Tuesday - the same thing that occurs every second Tuesday of the month,
Ever since the movie 'Die Hard 4'
I've had this odd mental disability for disabling my LT webcams and placing a piece of electrical tape over them.
Call me crazy but I wonder sometimes.
Article first appeared May 11th.
I folded my argument and actually entered on the 13th cuz I could use it for some dev stuff I've been thinking about and it's hard to test theories without one.
Know what I mean?
I have installed and/or upgraded more networks over the last couple of months than I have in the last year+ with my clients - something I'm not understanding due to the amount of businesses that have gone bankrupt just in the last six months in this area.
I know I am glad for it - struggling like hell atm to keep the lights on - but it doesn't look good for the near future...... no matter what His Presidency says.
Hmmm seen this plot before....
The Foundation series.... last great hurrah for the dying Empire, where scientists studied the studies of other scientists for new or confirming conclusions without ever doing the experiments/walking the actual ground.
Food for thought: Any time somebody mentions 'awareness' of something or other. hold on to your wallet or purse. Just saying...
Mkay back to my personal project: Decided to go through all the demotivational posters from oldest to newest. Currently page 503 of 579 and speed limited due to satellite connection.
It amuses me.
I love you guys
However I've been doing Windows 7/Server 2008R2 upgrades and network overhauls for over a year now. Easier than going from NT4 to an Win2k active directory environment, but does have a few gotchas and fussy apps (see? I said apps for applications aren't I cool?) to deal with just like anything else.
Win7pro makes me smile compared to any other Windows version - even XP wasn't this stable.
Like the London Bridge is in Lake Havasu City, Arizona - I'm not surprised anymore, I just say 'Cool', appreciate the uniqueness, and move on. I've watched 4th of July fireworks over the water on that bridge - there's a pool hall within walking/staggering distance that has free pool on Sunday and 25cent cherrybomds (cherries soaked in Everclear 200proof a few months).... 2-3 bucks can, under certain circumstances, lay you out on a quiet Sunday lol.
..... Big Time.
You do realize...
“If you can make God bleed, then people will cease to believe in Him” - Ironman 2, 2010.
Apple has always promoted the idea they were invulnerable to the black hats and I believe the black hats bought into it over the years and never bothered to try. Now it's on and I don't think Apple is as badass as Ironman.
The folks working on this project were most likely born around that time and thereafter, while Skynet and Battlestar Galactica occurred in the seventies and eighties. 'Recent' memories from a generational point of view would be more prominent in determining the name source.
Or, I could just be talking out of my ass from this side of the pond and you're absolutely right.
Leave it to the British
To come up with such a cool name while combining two negative terms - Skynet and Cylon - and then paint it black. Fun to be had by all...
He's right actually....
The latest version of WinDefender and it's variants are all in the registry, killing off AV, firewalls, system tools, corrupted files, replicating motherfucker, etc. Fucking pisses me off too. Three machines in different parts of the city, two patched XP Pros and one Win7Pro - was able to save data on the Win7 and XP machines but the installs were destroyed, the one I was able to recover was the lawyer who called instead of clicked about the weird shit that started off one of his legal beagle sites.
Don't even try to click the X, whole fucking thing is an install button - gotta kill the browser process.
I truly hate the fucks who write this shit - waterboarding would be the funnest thing to expect from my interrogation... just saying.
Nothing to see here - Move Along
Just thinking about what-might-have-beens..... I am/was part of the small gathering of people (guessing ten plus/minus five lol) that wanted OS/2 Warp to succeed in a big way(IBM fail), more or less forced on to Windows (no real alternative at the time with x86 hardware), flirted for a while with Solaris/Solarisx86 (pizza boxen anyone?), migrated to SUSE Linux (German fail- sold out to Novell, who sold out/died). and ended up with Windows again instead of MacOS ($$- maco's is/was funner to say than OSX btw).
OS/2 Warp sure was sexy.... and it would have the exact same issue as Windows/OSX/Linux/Unix has - an I/O disconnect between the keyboard and the chair. No amount of security can overcome the inalienable right of your average human being to do something stupid - Rule #357b, attachment #47c, addendum #7, ref: GIGO..
And that's why.....
....most of my bills are scheduled to be paid May 22nd.... just in case.
Shouting profanities while naked...
... I found that I must wear shorts or jeans while shouting profanities because this fucking HP G62 laptop gets fucking hot and there's one tiny fucking screw that gets superfuckingheated and will put little fucking pinhole-sized burns on your right leg.
Impracticable to say the least. Must wait until the Asus TF101 price drops or Amazon comes out with that Kindle tablet some are wishing for (me too).
Final icon idea
Saint Obama - "Hope and Change"
- to denote utter frustration at the policies of any government. Fully upgradable since we'll probably see him in the freaking UN after his Marvelous Mystery tour in the US.
I have an AMD Athlon64 4000+(circa 2006) powered pc around here in daily use by one of my kids, in a godawful see-through case with neon lighting that I thought was cool at the time. This particular case started as an AMD Athlon 2800+ before that but other than video card upgrades and RAM addition, has happily transitioned from Windows XP, Vista Business (have to specify that - Vista Home was the MS killer), and now Windows 7 Professional x64.(*)
(*)Just as fecal matter rolls down hill, so do workstations in this house in roughly two to three year time periods. As I upgrade, everybody else gets one step better. Exceptions are video cards, RAM upgrades, and the occasional hard drive replacement to stay up with the home network. (yeah we have family CounterStrike2 LAN battles and play EverQuest together) Laptops/tablets - need before greed lol.
My Take on the Subject
This is something I have railed about privately for years is the lack of serviceability of most electronic products. People do not get them repaired, they just throw them away and replace with new because it's easier. Take flat panel televisions, for a few years there they used 85watt capacitors instead of 110watt capacitors so they burned out and wouldn't fire the actual panel up. $20 +labor part replacement and it's working better than before oddly enough. (sat in my closet for a long time because I couldn't bring myself to throw away a $700 HDTV after only two years).
How many ended up in the landfill?
How many non replaceable battery powered items end up there? How many iMacs will end up there after the HD dies and it makes more sense to purchase a new one than pony up $300-400 to send your machine to be repaired? This is not an Apple-only issue, it's rampant throughout the world. Replace rather than repair, it's going to hurt us all eventually.
Please note I am not a treehugger, this just happens to be one area where some things do not make sense to me. I have been told that Apple is ahem, green, but in what way? Manufacturing items in this way just adds to the disposal issue. I've seen people with multiple dead iPods (iPodi? What is the plural for iPod?) in drawers or boxes.. where do you think they will go come spring cleaning time?
And never will...
... if we keep dicking around and don't get off this planet!
I Hate You All <yet in a positive way>
Not available in the US, I tried. We get the POS 4banger one with 37mpg.... Why? Dunno... bastard politicians bitch and moan about conservation and shit like that AND block companies like Fiat to protect fucking Detroit and those goddamned unions.
Enough to piss you off, you know?
...have all that shiite already - the so called free email accounts are automatic spam accounts - still have to deal with the spam from the provider. For some reason they don't like it when you filter out their spam. LOL Hotmail flat out refused to filter anything from the 'Windows Live Team" for a while there.
My domains have been out there for a long time and it's kinda nice to use a different email for stuff like this. It does take them a few weeks to get you, but as they say,"Where there's email, there is spam". I used to do spam defense for an ISP back in the dark ages of 33.3k-56.6k modem racks and it was/is a chore. Best results were when I blocked countries wholesale (like China) - I was never allowed to keep it because there was always ONE somebody who needed to email the blocked country.
....while El Reg may operate in a correct way, HP is another horse entirely. Likely to throw you off too.
I had filled out the form the last time and didn't submit due to the HP spam clause... the pay to play is too high. Now.... say if it was an Asus EEE Pad TF101 Transformer, I might be persuaded to add a trash email off one of my domains.
Btw: why is it only old fucks win these things? Lottery, raffles, anything.... Hmm, been a fan of El reg since late 90's... getting gray... hell, I might have a chance!
<getting the shakes...>
...Tried casting root and started dotting when I realized my root failed and didn't stop the cop from pulling me over for tinted (17%) windows this past Saturday.....
Damn Sony and especially damn EverCrack...
I know where the el Reg bunker is......
.... Washington, D.C.
They would never ever look there... too busy involving themselves everywhere else.
Get folks used to the idea then 'they' make it mandatory... everybody uses it and the gov is getting fucking GREAT at it... Oh and Progressive Auto Insurance will give you a break on your insurance if you give them a 'snapshot" of your mad driving skillz... Seems like a deal, doesn't it?
<thinking it's to help/save the children but not so optimistic as 'they' are>
...Sounds like a bonus double XP weekend coming up.... You would think due to the internet exposure of Station, there would be a little more attention and security paid to it. Ah well.
Made the switch to purchasing game cards rather than letting SOE bill me a while back because of funny things occurring amongst my EverQuest accounts - this justifies the effort nicely.

Scene 5: 'Burn the witch!'
Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem.
Pie Iesu domine,...
...dona eis requiem.
Pie Iesu domine,...
...dona eis requiem.
A witch! A witch!
A witch! A witch!
Pie Iesu domine...
CROWD: A witch! A witch! A witch! A witch! We've found a witch! A witch! A witch! A witch! A witch! We've got a witch! A witch! A witch! Burn her! Burn her!
Burn her! We've found a witch! We've found a witch! A witch! A witch! A witch!
VILLAGER #1: We have found a witch. May we burn her?
CROWD: Burn her! Burn! Burn her! Burn her!
BEDEVERE: How do you know she is a witch?
VILLAGER #2: She looks like one.
CROWD: Right! Yeah! Yeah!
BEDEVERE: Bring her forward.
WITCH: I'm not a witch. I'm not a witch.
BEDEVERE: Uh, but you are dressed as one.
WITCH: They dressed me up like this.
CROWD: Augh, we didn't! We didn't...
WITCH: And this isn't my nose. It's a false one.
VILLAGER #1: Well, we did do the nose.
BEDEVERE: The nose?
VILLAGER #1: And the hat, but she is a witch!
VILLAGER #2: Yeah!
CROWD: We burn her! Right! Yeaaah! Yeaah!
BEDEVERE: Did you dress her up like this?
VILLAGER #1: No!
VILLAGER #2 and 3: No. No.
VILLAGER #2: No.
VILLAGER #1: No.
VILLAGERS #2 and #3: No.
VILLAGER #1: Yes.
VILLAGER #2: Yes.
VILLAGER #1: Yes. Yeah, a bit.
VILLAGER #3: A bit.
VILLAGERS #1 and #2: A bit.
VILLAGER #3: A bit.
VILLAGER #1: She has got a wart.
BEDEVERE: What makes you think she is a witch?
VILLAGER #3: Well, she turned me into a newt.
BEDEVERE: A newt?
VILLAGER #3: I got better.
VILLAGER #2: Burn her anyway!
VILLAGER #1: Burn!
CROWD: Burn her! Burn! Burn her!...
BEDEVERE: Quiet! Quiet! Quiet! Quiet! There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.
VILLAGER #1: Are there?
VILLAGER #2: Ah?
VILLAGER #1: What are they?
CROWD: Tell us! Tell us!...
VILLAGER #2: Do they hurt?
BEDEVERE: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
VILLAGER #2: Burn!
VILLAGER #1: Burn!
CROWD: Burn! Burn them up! Burn!...
BEDEVERE: And what do you burn apart from witches?
VILLAGER #1: More witches!
VILLAGER #3: Shh!
VILLAGER #2: Wood!
BEDEVERE: So, why do witches burn?
VILLAGER #3: B--... 'cause they're made of... wood?
BEDEVERE: Good! Heh heh.
CROWD: Oh, yeah. Oh.
BEDEVERE: So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?
VILLAGER #1: Build a bridge out of her.
BEDEVERE: Ah, but can you not also make bridges out of stone?
VILLAGER #1: Oh, yeah.
RANDOM: Oh, yeah. True. Uhh...
BEDEVERE: Does wood sink in water?
VILLAGER #1: No. No.
VILLAGER #2: No, it floats! It floats!
VILLAGER #1: Throw her into the pond!
CROWD: The pond! Throw her into the pond!
BEDEVERE: What also floats in water?
VILLAGER #1: Bread!
VILLAGER #2: Apples!
VILLAGER #3: Uh, very small rocks!
VILLAGER #2: Uh, gra-- gravy!
VILLAGER #1: Cherries!
VILLAGER #2: Mud!
VILLAGER #3: Uh, churches! Churches!
VILLAGER #2: Lead! Lead!
ARTHUR: A duck!
BEDEVERE: Exactly. So, logically...
VILLAGER #1: If... she... weighs... the same as a duck,... she's made of wood.
BEDEVERE: And therefore?
VILLAGER #2: A witch!
VILLAGER #1: A witch!
CROWD: A witch! A witch!...
VILLAGER #4: Here is a duck. Use this duck.
[quack quack quack]
BEDEVERE: Very good. We shall use my largest scales.
CROWD: Ohh! Ohh! Burn the witch! Burn the witch! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Ahh! Ahh...
BEDEVERE: Right. Remove the supports!
CROWD: A witch! A witch! A witch!
WITCH: It's a fair cop.
VILLAGER #3: Burn her!
CROWD: Burn her! Burn her! Burn her! Burn! Burn!...
BEDEVERE: Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?
ARTHUR: I am Arthur, King of the Britons
I changed the names to protect the innocent company(ies).
Wow. Just Wow.
1. Michigan is and has been a Union and Democrat blue state since God was a little boy.
2. The Steve hangs out with His Presidency, the honorable Obama. And to my knowledge are liberal Democrats and have been since they appeared on this plane of existence.
3. Janet Nepolitano heads Homeland Security - Liberal Democrat pushing TSA scanners with those lovely mandatory "or else" intrusive patdowns on 6 year old girls and on Walmart TV telling the rednecks to report each other... cool with partial-birth abortions and such....
It's those damn Republicans all right! BURN THEM! BURN THE WITCHES!
Consider putting down the koolaid and try some tea.
... memories from high school must have outed my possible age...In my own defense it has been modified to 'Oh Yeah? Fuck You!" years ago... I was trying to be civil lol.
In any case, ya'll don't need the Zuck suing the Reg for the misuse of the word 'Face'.
A Pie icon perhaps
For those 'Oh Yeah? Yo Momma!' posts..... Ran into that today in fact.... The 'Suck on This' sometimes just doesn't cover it.
