This will do the job at last!
One of two things will happen:
1. There will be a massive exodus from Facebook. People who want streaming video ads are already watching Hulu, in the USA.
2. There will be a trivial hosts file entry to block the Facebook streaming video ad server.
Actually, both things may happen, but if the only people left on Facebook are techies, and ignorant sheep, the techies will leave, too.
Re: Assumptions, assumptions...
The iPhone *is* the work of the devil. Just ask Steve Ballmer.
Re: Assumptions, assumptions...
As long as a nation enslaves all women within its borders, that nation is evil.
Come back when that situation changes in Iran, mmkay?
In the words of his own Prophet
In Hadith, Prophet Muhammad says:
"Three are the signs of a hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is trusted, he betrays his trust even if he observes Fasting, performs prayers and claims to be a believer.''
In another Hadith, Prophet Muhammad says:
"Four are the qualities which, when found in a person, make him a sheer hypocrite, and one who possesses one of them, possesses one characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it. These are: When he is entrusted with something, he betrays trust; when he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he acts treacherously; and when he argues, he behaves in a very imprudent, insulting manner.''
Hypocrisy is a disagreement between heart and tongue.
Hypocrisy is a discrepancy between word and deed.
Here we see that the Ayatollah is a hypocrite, not worthy to lead a nation's religious observances, much less its secular existence.
Here's an example of massive stupidity
German newspapers don't want people to come to their Web sites, obviously; else why pressure Google into de-linking?
I following a Google link this morning to the Financial Times Web site. Under normal circumstances, I would *NEVER* visit that site (and having seen it, I won't again, but that's a different kettle of bollocks). Without the Google link to (what should have been) an interesting story, FT would stay off my radar.
So, I agree with John Sanders, but I would go one step further: Block all links to any .de domain and see if that satisfies the morons who brought the suit.
"I guess breeding via rape and murdering any humans that look a bit different to you when they're within a mile of your home should be OK in the States too, then?"
Well, Psyx, that's certainly the argument used by the Republican Party in their recent campaign.
"Twitter is now more properly policing"
And by so doing, by exceeding the requirements of the law, they make themselves liable for any copyright infringement that escapes their notice.
You can count on the MPAA/RIAA suing them out of business (probably following an illegal raid on Twitter's Corporate offices).
Re: If MS go the Apple route
Android is a Linux derivative. I'm running an Android desktop PC at home; it cost me $65 including shipping (plus $12 to get something nice-looking as a case for it to live in), uses 14 watts of power (vs. the 750 watts burned in my Windows 7 desktop PC) and serves the majority of my computer needs. for World of Warcraft, yes, I still need Windows. I wonder how long, however.
This will be the equivalent...
...of the "land grab" for farmsteads in Antarctica. Sure, there will be a couple of optimistic fools who think W8 apps are going to make them wealthy (it won't) and a lot of kids who think they can code the next "Angry Birds" (they can't), but on the whole, I expect *skilled* independent developers to stay away in droves. After all, why would anyone with two working brain cells code apps for a company who is well-known for stealing intellectual property and then squashing the originators? (No, I don't mean Apple this time.)
Re: What on earth are the MSFT board doing?
The most notable thing that Ballmer has done since he took over has been to drive the value of MSFT down 50%. Assuming he's working for Red Hat, I'd call that "successful." However, if he's really working for Microsoft, then his tenure has been an unmitigated disaster, with obvious roadsigns of the Apocalypse ahead.
Re: Before diving head first, check there is water in the pool
Apple's been completely derivative for decades. For example, the iPad? Introduced by Bill Gates in 1997. First seen in Star Trek (the TV series) in the 1960s.
The biggest problem with electric vehicles
The biggest problem with electric vehicles is government red tape. You have OSHA, the EPA, the DOT, and FSG only knows what else at the Federal level, and then yet another layer of all that at the State level, and even some more at County and City government levels. Yes, battery technology is still a bit of an issue, but in 1907 Detroit Electric was making electric cars with an advertised range of 80 miles on a charge, and in actual road tests exceeded 200 miles. One would think that humanity could probably achieve at least parity with technology that's a century old, if we throw enough money at the problem.
Meanwhile, SpaceX is managing to improve on existing, current technology by using the age-old Engineering paradigm: "Steal from the best." You take what's been done before, see what you can do to improve it economically, and do it. There's nothing wrong with that, it's the smart way to advance technology. Fortunately, the space transportation industry isn't overrun with patent trolls, like the software field is. Not yet, anyway.
Not merely a tiny group
In fact, the WBC consists entirely of the *(incestuous) family of Phelps, the "pastor" of the fake church.
And Anonymous absolutely did not target WBC; the entire load of crap was a bare-faced lie by WBC in order to get some more free publicity.
The best thing that could happen would be a tacit agreement amongst all the various news agencies to never report on anything involving the WBC.
"it is the lack of intelligence that's supposed to save billions of dollars, and the planet"
If that actually worked, the US Congress would have already done it. They are vastly overqualified if that's the basis for success.
