NFC Payments ..... if only
I have had phones that support NFC for the past 2 years but I have not yet found a way to use them to make NFC payments.
There are so few phones and apps that will currently support NFC and and this will probably continue until the big corporations stop squabbling about who is going to make the money from them.
I already use my Visa card to bonk at Tesco and McDs but will use NFC from my phone as soon as I can get it set up.
Re: Otherwise the specs for the 9.7-inch tablet and its Retina screen remain the same
Yep, any 64GB Samsung Tablet that has a card slot can take the 64GB micro SD card.
:)
Re: The Downside Of Being Fashionable ....
So why the 33% drop in the share price ... the analysts don't see a rosy future for the products.
The Downside Of Being Fashionable ....
... is that eventually the products will go out of fashion.
On Radio 5 Today ....
Dianne Abbot said that some young men now prefer anal sex as they think pubic hair is disgusting.
She got told off :D
Re: Shark. Jumped.
That is a pretty fair comment to anyone that isn't an IFanboi and is in typical Reg style.
Tim Cook is pretty lucky he still has a job.
How Convenient ....
To compare a 12 week period that has the yearly iPhone launch, the end of year figures will likely tell a completely different story.
Re: Apple Share Price ....
A lot less than the $200 it has lost since the launch of the iPhone 5.
Apple Share Price ....
Down another $20.
Says it all.
Re: poor iPhone 5 = 90%?
The iPhone 5 was probably reviewed originally by Tony Smith, a notorious fanboi.
Fashion?
Apple kit has been fashionable over the past few years.
But the problem with stuff that is fashionable is that it will always go out of fashion.
No Rush To Out the Mini.
At Apple pricing the mini was only ever going to take away sales from the iPad ....
I thought iPads would fly better than that.
Re: I expected to read a review....
It reads like a sermon ...
How the feck did such an iFanboi get a job at The Register?
Re: And I need NFC why?
... and Tesco.
I have had NFC capability on my phone for almost 2 years now yet I still can't find anyone that can provide me with a service that allows me to use it :(
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Should have been on the list. Not cheap but by far the best small tablet available.
Would Be Interesting ....
... to see the numbers that have left Sky as a result of the Android / Sky Go support fiasco and the appalling customer support on their forums.
Has There Ever Been An Apple Product ...
.. in recent years that hasn't had such a warning. Easy way for Apple to get free advertising.
I am surprised at The Register Falling for this time after time.
Re: I agree, the lack of a retina screen is crazy...
To have put a retina display on the iPad Mini they would have to have made it at least half an inch thick to house the battery .... and it would have got very hot.
Battery technology will need to improve before they can up the resolution on this device.
Re: Apple Share Price ....
The Share price has dropped around 15% since the iPhone 5 was announced ....
Apple Share Price ....
... dropped 4% (so far).
Says it all.
Re: Nonexistent Nexus?
Screen size does matter ....
With a 4:3 screen ratio the iPad Mini will not fit in a suit or jacket pocket .... which kind of defeats the purpose of a small tablet.
Lower spec and overpriced compared to the opposition.
2560 x 1920
That is going to need a big battery .....
Re: 7inch Tablet Paah!!
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 has an OLED screen ..... it was quite expensive but for me it is still the best tablet on the market ( .... and yes I have have or have had every other size of Galaxy Tab .... and a Nexus 7)
Re: So, despite rest-of-world being utterly wrong
"Want to bet? If its not 4:3 then the existing stock of iPad software won't work with it, and you introduce fragmentation. 4:3"
I'll bet you another virtual pint of beer. None of the leaked photos of iPad mini case show a 4:3 ratio.
And yes, it will cause a problem as the current crop of iPad specific apps will not run on it.
4:3 is so 19th century.
Re: So, despite rest-of-world being utterly wrong
The 'Mini' iPad will not be 4:3 ..... that would defeat the purpose of a small tablet.
7.85" is about the maximum size that a 16:9 tablet can be and still be able to fit in a suit or jacket pocket.
Re: Huzzah
I was getting ready to swap RBS branches as there was no way I was moving my personal and business accounts to Santander .....
This is fantastic news ... for now.
4" ....
.... exactly like the Samsung Nexus S.
An updated Nexus S, now that would be very nice :)
16:9
Looks like they may finally have got the shape right ....
No Google Wallet for smartphones in the UK ..... so no fecking use.
Off Out Now
I don't care what other phones are available, at the price the iPhone 5 has *got* to be the best and my friends will be *so* impressed if I get one next Friday.
I am off to Covent Garden to start queuing.
Re: Addendum
"SanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB Micro SD XC Memory Card Class ... £59.99 - Play.com"
£38 on Amazon :)
Cant be, nobody makes half inch thick tablets any more ....... do they?
It is also the wrong shape for a tablet, 4:3 does not work in 7"
What Happened ....
... to the good old days when we didn't get any of this fanboi shit on The Register?
Looks like they have finally made a device with the screen the right shape.
Perfect Way
To milk the iTwats for more money .....
Still US Only ....
So no fecking use in the UK.
:-(
The Times They Are A Changin
Results for Q2 in which the new iPad was released ...
Q3 results I expect will show a completely different picture.
I analyse sales data at a large UK retailer. On first day of release they shipped 1700 Nexus 7s and have been shipping 500 a day since then.
iPad sales have never gone above 130 a day and have dropped off over 25% in the last couple of weeks.
WTF!
I think I will become an analyst, you obviously don't need to know feck all about anything ....
It is obvious that everyone in the US was waiting for the release of the Galaxy S III .....
Next quarters results will be interesting.
:-)
Must be wrong ....
I don't see any referrence to Samsung not copying their iPdad design.
"selected" Android phones
Selection is a joke with no ICS support yet. .... Sky's support for Android has been farcical.
"In those five words, he saved the company from a lawsuit and utterly trashed its product in the public perception. Who’s going to want to get a ‘not cool’ tablet for Christmas?"
Anyone under the age of 18 is going to percieve anything a fuddy duddy old judge believes to be cool as exactly the opposite.
:-)
Checked a couple of times today but not a Bean yet :-(
Bargains Galore
I can see the price of second hand kidneys falling dramatically.
Complete Garbage
I don't recall anyone comparing Symbian devices with windows ..... and at 1million activations a day it won't be long before Android devices outnumber both iOS and Windows devices.
Re: new tablet battleground? really?
Amazons Kindle Fire is tied to their Android Marketplace which still isn't available in the UK or Europe ... this is the reason why the Fire has not been released outside of the US.
Size Matters
I started with a 7" tablet. I then got a 10" tablet but found it a bit to big to be portable and discrete. I saw an 8.9" tablet and thought it the perfect compromise ....
I was wrong, my every day tablet is now 7.7". The size and weight make it truly portable, it fits nicely in a suit or jacket pocket and it is the right size and shape to use as a book reader on a train.
:)
A Properly Priced Tablet
I expect they will sell a few.
Little point in Amazon releasing the Kindle Fire over here now and I'll expect to get a free Playbook with a packet of corn flakes next week.
:)
