If you really can't let go of Windows 7, Microsoft will keep things secure for another three years

Captain Scarlet

Re: "For a fee, of course"

I'm not aware of Microsoft removing the ability to replace the shell or start menu?

Although I havent tried it since the days of Windows XP I thought there were still developers of replacements?

Re: Some people just don't get it

:O well tbh I brought a load of 4250's cheap so everyone had one even if they didn't print much (Ended up with users asking for smaller printers and meant I could replace the invoice and despatch note printers every 1 million prints when they started wearing out).

Re: Some people just don't get it

I wasn't BOFH for long (So the boss got to enjoy the BOFH perks), so I was more Mordac and https://dilbert.com/strip/2013-08-24 actually happened to me.

Ah the Wally approach, better than a BOFH approach (Or Mordac the preventor of information services for another Dilbert reference), as that was outsourced from under me.

NTL

Yup NTL, the network cable had become detached from her NTL Modem from my mothers computer I built her.

Instead of calling me she called NTL, after 4 hours she was told the computer needed windows reinstalled.

As this was a machine I had built I obviously told I needed to reinstall Windows, then came after 2 seconds I had said there its reinstalled.

Mountain Dew?

What is this, every single LAN I have ever been to has had a mountain of Cider/Beer (On some occassions a somerfields trolley which ended up in the garden for some reason).

When we moved to a hall it was the hot water dispencer (For Pot Noodles), with those mini kegs in the fridge (Although we did have an issue with power, so had to ensure only one person turned on at a time when full).

Replaced such a machine with an ISA card, to then get a frying because it didn't have Windows 98 on (No-one asked and I wanted it on our Windows Domain and network), so Windows 98 installed, all networking removed and its probably still there chugging away (Still no idea what the bleeding thing did).
