Re: Teach your children
Not to be a kill joy but why are you telling your 9 year old daughter that other people will die because they are not smart like her when they get their braces? gotta be careful that's the kind of talk that gives kids NPD. She won't be so smart when her emotional growth is stuck at 9 years forever.
Butterfingers who don't bother with phone cases, rejoice: New Gorilla Glass 'Victus' tipped to survive 6ft drops
Re: Is dropping your phone common?
yes. s9 owner. the screen is a composite material of oled glued to glass. its actually very tough. if you shatter it, the screen will work, it will just have hair line scratches. I drop it every week. it is two year old. for some reason it always hits on the front side as well, which is annoying, the front side has bits of glass missing but the touch sensor doesnt need the glass. the glass is only there to protect the oled which is easily sensitive to pressure. so if i break the glass, who cares, the glass is the protective case for the oled. i dont care.

here is what nobody likes about servers
1. expensive
2. heavy
3. large
4. inefficient
5. already obsolete when you buy them
so yes if IBM Dell and HP need a kick up the backside then its about time. Frankly I should be able to get a dual Xeon server for the price of a meal in a good restaurant. One that runs cool and quiet enough to put under my TV with no fans so I don't have to clean out the dust. Why cant they just do that?
Facebook turns 10: Big Brother isn't Mark Zuckerberg. It's YOU
Re: Mr Orlowski's Facebook experience is obviously different from mine
They want you to think they don't know you but in fact the NSA and GCHQ do all the analytics using secret wartime algorithms while you get served up a bunch of unrelated garbage for every search term you can think of. If you could see how deep the rabbit hole really goes, you would stop using Facebook pretty quick. So of course they don't patch you into their backend. The tech that runs all their front end stuff is 15 years behind what they're already doing in secret.

Re: Beep beep
Umm people have been getting fucked over on this planet for thousands of years.
It's only in the last 100 that we've developed the technology to grow a large population of many billions ripe for fucking, and the computer technology and social sciences needed to fuck them all quickly and efficiently.

can you manage saved passwords yet
If I want to delete a password in IE I have to delete them all. Rather than just having a list of sites with saved passwords than can be managed individually.
Now we know Microsoft spent billions of dollars making development tools to make this kind of stuff easy to do yet they still don't use it in their own products.
iPad Air not very hot: Apple fanbois SHUN London fondleslab launch
we live at a time when 2 working adults cant support a family that 2 generations ago would have been supported by one. parents are forced to send their kids to expensive nurseries where their children are abused. the kids grow up never having spent any time talking to their own parents.
but you can buy a new iPad so its ok for us to be treated like this by the powers that be. hand over your cash and forget about little johnny or jane being abused by the staff at the nursery where most of your wages are spent because society wont let you raise your own kid anymore. its the new world order baby.

Work ceases to be productive once its paid for
This patent business is nonsense. Why should a company earn a living from work they already did?
If we abolished patents, companies would be forced to compete with eachother, by constantly doing new work (driving the economy forwards). It's the patent system that's put the breaks on our faltering economy, because every year it grows by attrition and every year new business men face a tougher challenge before they even go into business.
I say, let the chips fall where they may, let companies rehash and reuse ideas, and see if that doesn't kick start your precious fucking economy. Because I'll tell you one thing that won't kick start it: another housing bubble.
well dysons are the best but they make you pay and they're by no means perfect. the hoses break instantly etc.
hopefully sammy will drive the prices down because I shouldnt need a mortgage to use the latest generation of vacuum technology. it should not be the case that only one company can implement something that amounts to a necessity.

Microsoft cans three 'pinnacle' certifications, sparking user fury
This won't affect me and if it does it will be in a good way so for once I'm genuinely happy to see MS put their foot in it. It must cost them pocket change to run the program and its the most effective money they could possibly spend on marketing since it keeps suckers believing in the product.
So why did they get rid of it? I think the same reason they got rid of second hand games on X Box.
It's a hostile takeover. All the terms and contracts have changed to hand ownership of your data to them and to store it on their servers with cooperation from the NSA. It's the end game. Now they don't even care if they piss you off, because you're just another terrorist in their database, and you aint worth shit.

If you want to pass a law to take away their freedoms all you have to do is call it the PATRIOT act. How ironic.
Wouldn't happen here. There's plenty of goons trying to get the snooping laws in over here and they always fail. I think it's because the name is a lot shittier: IMP, no one here is dumb enough to vote for it. But in our country because we're free, if the government wants to do something and we're not voting, they'll just take away our right to vote, do it anyway, and promise that we can vote to remove the bad thing in the future (maybe). that's the British way of oppressing people.

Microsoft announces $499 price tag, new games for Xbox One
Re: UGLY
The hardware is costly, now.
But in 2 years it will be commodity and Apple will sell it in a sexy case. I suppose 2 years is an eternity to wait for the gamer demographic so it probably won't affect sales. At least not among their core demographic. But this thing *is* a locked down PC with off the shelf parts: AMD probably will sell you the same chip (or better) through eBuyer in a year or two. Is it that long to wait?
UGLY
The new Xbox, and the new playstation, really are the ugliest consoles to date. These things never looked "good" but now they really do look bad. They could have put SOME effort into the design and realised that these items go into peoples houses, but no, for your £400 you get the cheapest of cheap plastics. At least Apple would give you some aluminium for that price. Fucking hell.
