Linux kernel is nor Linux, in the same way that a car engine is not a car.
Putting a linux kernel into a linux distro makes it a Linux, putting a linux kernel under a java VM doesn't.
You put a car engine into a car chasis and then you get a car. Trying to call Android a Linux is like putting a car enging into a speedboat chasis and then trying to call it a car. It just makes no sense.
It IS guns that killed people, not Adolf Hitler.
Re: Won't somebody think of the children?
Autonomous car FTW!
We'll make sure the enemy don't steal the keys!
Raptor is NOT the highest-tech aircraft
Lighting III is.
F-22 is simply the deadleist in A-A combat.
But F-35 is an all-around more capable aircraft.
"spitting artificial lightning for hundreds of feet"?
All it would take is a single Miss. Misaka Mikoto....
"No Linux desktop has a real virus problem," he added.
And we all know the reason to this is.....
Go to your local computer shop and let them make you one from standard parts. Or just DIY your own, since all you need to make a common PC is case+MB+CPU+RAM+graphic card+HDD+monitor+KB+mouse+speakers......I mean, just how hard can it be for an average El Reg reader!?
Much cheaper than any OEMs and no software pre-installed!
Users are always in control: if you don't like a locked down computer, just don't buy it! Simple!
Well, since it's the 2nd gen....
why not just call it "Neo Genesis"?
Just how many times do I have to point this out again!?
What Dell claimed is that this is the thinest 15in "PC", not "LAPTOP"!!
And like many ppl said, a Mac is NOT a PC!!
So if you can't find a 15in that is thinner than this and comes with Linux or Windows pre-installed, then there is NOTHING wrong about Dell's claim.
Here's someting that they should've tried before stating that dirt-hack.....
"apt-get install samba-client"
Doesn't work for shared hosts
which use domain names to decide which actual site you're trying to get to.
they would just block the IPs of the OpenDNS severs
just like they've already blocked all traffics to google's dns servers (18.104.22.168 and 22.214.171.124)
"Download it legally for free."
don't kid yourself pal.
"Run it on a clapped out old PC"
ever heard of something call Windows for Legancy PC?
"Give it to my kids without worrying they might break it."
suppose you don't run Linux as root, then Windows only does it better if you don't run it as Administrator.
less collateral damage?
some navies are developing long range railguns that can't be stopped without a force shield (true story)!
Not only in anime though
Ever watched the trailers for Ghost Recon Future Soldiers?
and a lot of dead civilians too...
Yet another reason to...
Just download a pirated copy of a game if you only want to play the single player part!
A limited Linux user is a user that is NOT in the "sudoers"
The very fact that you can run "sudo" means that you are NOT a limited user, but rather like a Windows Power User with UAC on.
And by the way, normal people don't install new softwares or change system settings everyday. Once a system is properly setted up, normal people just work with them, not keep tinking with them. Just like what normal people only do to their cars everyday: they drive them, not take them all apart and put it back together.
