Re: "so we're pretty sure there's a few packets dropped along the way"
probably not... it might be too taxing on onboard pre-micro computers. I'd hazard a guess it's all fire and forget ala UDP.

.. had this bug on my iphone 4 for almost 2 years now, as soon as I upgraded to ios 5 and it turns out even those with 4S were also affected, there's thousands of iphones in this state judging from the threads in apple's (self-help) support pages.
and couldnt help but notice the new color scheme of El Reg nowadays.. dominant M$ blue.
when I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 5.1, my phone is always on mute when making calls (ie the other party cant hear me), putting it on speakphone or using a headset however works.. fast forward to 5.1.1 and still the same problem. What I noticed was the mute button (on the virtual keypad) always has the dashed line across it.. whether its highlighted or not. I'm not losing any sleep on this but it sure is irritating.
yep.. its a hollow victory, if you call it that.. oracle simply won on an assumption that SSO is copyrightable. I suppose we'll just have to wait for the judge to decide if it so (he promised he will if the jury thinks it is).
I think, like the EU courts ruled recently, he will say it's not copyrightable.
1) installed fedora 15 in my (then) 5ish year old compaq presario a year ago.
2) worked really well, but for the life of me I couldnt make the laptop print to a network printer.
3) hibernate simply sucks and results to a system crash that requires a reboot or worse fsck
4) I dont have the time nor patience anymore to 'tinker' around.. I just want something that works.. comes with age I suppose.
5) As a developer, I'm increasingly getting more inquiries for 'mobile' apps development.. well and good except that I need a Mac for iPhone/ipad development..
6) The only way I can run Netbeans (my preferred java IDE) +Eclipse (for Android) + Apple's XCode IDE is in a Mac.
7) MacOSX is still, afterall, Unix.. so yes I may want to do the occassional tinkering.
So there.. I've bared my soul...
once upon a time, the best scientific minds of a great civilization embarked on an experiment to finally answer the question of matter and anti-matter (and why there are more of the former).. their experiments always returned inconclusive data until finally they decided to make one big experiment. Finally, the day arrived when they could finally turn on switch and when they did...
...poof!
...14 billions years later, the best scientific minds of the planet earth...
well unlike old and spent satellites this one is loaded with toxic fuel.. I wonder how they can control its eventual descent since they can only receive comms one way (it they just get telemetry info and not sent commands)..if there's a chance that it will impact a city or something can they shoot it down once it reaches the atmosphere? maybe call up the good US of A and offer a target practice for the airborne laser perhaps?
that's because the last time I played a full game on any device was in college some 18 years ago. I dont think the lame games in my ex-BB counts as a full game so yes I think its with the iphone 4 that i've played my first game since.. oh angry birds of course.
Having migrated my dependable laptop of 4 years to Fedora 15 fairly recently there's a couple of things that irritates me a) Hibernate with many apps open usually (for me) results in a crash on waking, requiring fsck.. old XP doesnt have a problem with this at all b) when opening directories and files using the navigator, doing a right click has the copy but not the paste (but it's in one of the menus). c) the Gnome 3.0 is nice but fails reliably when an extended monitor is attached.
what about only nation on this planet who was able to send men on the moon and back? americans needs a big motivator to get things done.. the soviet threat was it 3 decades ago.. unfortunately, global warming and "to go where no man has gone before" does not strike a chord to roughly half of americans.
..and they know it.. that's why they're considering Javascript for the presentation.. however, if they do so that will be a big blow for their stack of developer tools and consulting and all the revenues it entails.
For today's connected world, separating the presentation (javascript and associated tech e.g. JSON, XML etc) provides an excellent, multiple device, cross-platform and much more secure deployment platform. With .NET or .COM you have to rely exclusively on MS tech. Unfortunately there's still a lot of FUD about open source technologies in the corporate world the savings with FOSS are real not imaginary.
Judge: "The court is of the opinion that Apple’s minimalistic design isn’t the only technical solution to make a tablet computer, other designs are possible,".. shame on you Samsung for lacking in imagination they have not even considered the following non rectangular shapes like a round tablet or a triangular one?
