Microsoft Skype: How the VCs won and Ballmer overpaid

Missing Something

MS didn't over pay in the slightest. This whole buyout was obviously done at the behest of the department of homeland security, as they couldn't eavesdrop on terrorist calls, they got a nice frindly US company to buy out Skype so that they can listen. Now watch some nice fat juicy government contracts go to MS.

"protect our customers"? Really? In what wonderland?

You've missed the point, the people who buy the console aren't their customers, just the consumer, it's the game developers who are the real customers for Sony. People should realise by now big business has nothing but contempt for us and they treat us accordingly. Stop buying the crap from companies that act this way.

I actually agree with that sex party posters are not appropriate for a religous property. This seems quite obvious really so you have to wonder why the priests would allow their properties to be used as polling stations knowing that the parties standing for election were likely to do exactly what they did. We don't have to wonder much though because they were just after the bag of cash they get for it. Lets stop subsidising these religions and let them fail.

Oh dear

What Bill gates is the lowest form of life on the planet? Really? Get a grip. Has he killed anyone?, enslaved anyone?, tortured anyone?. If you really think exploiting a monopoly is the worst thing someone can do then you sir are an idiot.

Anyway his recent work with the Gates Foundation means he has had more positive effect on the world than probably any commentard on here.

Lol this is what you get with this crappy free open source shizzle. Time to watch the developers flock to Win Pho 7 where they know they are safe. Microsoft know how to treat developers and keep them safe. Simples

Probably because there wouldn't be enough of a return for the criminals to go to the trouble of doing it. Hacks on windows are prevalent not just due to them being easy but also because there is a huge number of people using the system. These two factors combined result in a nice return for the criminals. As OSX is such a minority system then the return is much less so why go to the trouble.

Security is the users responsibility

If you go around installing software from an unknown developer, with no antimalware software and a pile of personal information stored in the device you deserve your infected phone.

Seriously if you are expecting your phone's OS to defend it against yourself then you really shouldn't have your phone.

German Foreign Office kills desktop Linux, hugs Windows XP

GatesFanbois

That would be illegal?

No installing Office under WINE would not be "illegal". It would be against the T&Cs but that does not make it illegal. Unless there is a law enacted in Germany to prohibit installing Office under WINE it is not illegal. M$ could not report you to the police for it and have a criminal case prosecuted. I'm not even sure what they could do in a civil prosecution. Agreeing to an EULA and then breaking does NOT mean you are breaking the law.

Microsoft holds Androids hostage in open source wars

GatesFanbois

blah blah blah

"The complaint is not about MS making money, but the methods used by MS to make money. "

Yeah microsoft trying to get money for patents that they hold that is outrageous. If MS patents aren't valid then the manufacturers don't have to pay if they are valid then they should pay. If they don't want to pay what MS want then they should leave out the functionality or work around it.

Notably the manufacturers haven't commented on it; instead it is the COO of a company, that would appear to not have a clue how to make money, who seems to have taken offense at what MS are doing. While MS have successfully monetised and made profitable their PC operating system this COO would appear to still be trying to figure how to do this. Given his lack of success so far why would anyone want to listen to his commercial advice ? least of all the company that built a monopoly supplying this very product.

One of these days linux fanbois will actually realise that the average consumer doesn't want their product, the fact that you can't give it away for free to anyone except a bunch of furry toothed sys admins is a clue to how good your product actually is.

How Suprising

COO of some crappy linux distro whines about microsoft making money. What a suprise. If they learned a few lessons from microsoft they might make some cash as well.

Canonical are truly a non-profit orginistion.
