MrXavia
Thumb Up

Very interesting read, and something NICE/NHS should be happy to fund research & trials in. any reduction in cancer treatment costs & increase in survival rates would save a fortune for the NHS..

Info of a charity that funds this kind of cancer research would be nice.

I can't remember the brand, but there was one I saw a while back...Might have been pioneer?

Although personally, I like having DLNA support in the TV, along with Freeview HD & Freesat HD.

Re: "Stross is a long-time Linux user...."

Try finding a good lightweight linux laptop... Or even a nice windows one with all linux drivers available....

I am a fan of Linux, yet I still run windows, not by choice, but for compatibility with hardware and programs (wine is OK, but much of what I run won't work right on it.)

If your a linux user, OSX is a good compromise.

Jaguar F-Type: A beautiful British thoroughbred

MrXavia

Jaguars are made in the UK, designed by the British, built by the British, for the world...

Well they have JUST opened a Chinese factory to cope with demand, but they are LHD cars so we won't have to deal with the lower quality workmanship....

Jaguars are lovely cars, inside and out... I can't think of any other brand car I've enjoyed as much.

MrXavia

Re: How to do it

I agree, as soon as Tata took over, they let the XF become a beautiful car much closer to the original prototype.

I prefer the standard XF body than the 'estate' SportBrake, no idea why the author compared to that.

The pop up gear knob is cool, but I think the opening/closing air vents are even cooler ;-D

US military finds F-35 software is a buggy mess

MrXavia

Re: Go (UK) Navy

BAE offered a STOBAR version of the Typhoon to India a few years back, we could go with those on our carrier.. but the F35B was supposed to be the cheaper option...

MrXavia

Software is a buggy mess?

Maybe that is why they were reluctant to share the code with the UK a few years ago....

When the UK partnered with the USA on a fighter, you just knew it was going to end badly...

I say lets dump the F35 and go with BAE's navel version of the Eurofighter.. Sure they've only made one.. but its a STOBAR, perfect for out new Carrier... PLUS we already fly the Eurofighter, so plenty of already trained engineers/pilots and spare parts....

Of course we should have kept the harrier or partnered with Europe on a VTOL fighter rather than waste money on the F35 project...

WTF?

Re: surely this is discrimination?

"Then it means your recruitment process is sexist and racist, because society isn't made up of white males."

Racist? Not really, unless you choose a white person because they are white not because they are good for the job... Considering the UK has a White British population of > 82% it stands to reason that the majority of the staff will be White... Add into that the choices of careers will vary based on culture, you will end up with some areas dominated by White British males, others by other colours...

Sexist? not really, in the past 10 years I've not seen a single Female applicants CV to an IT post I've interviewed for. This is a failure of the education system/society possibly a factor of genetics which affects peoples interests.

Men & Women are different, they make different choices.

MrXavia

surely this is discrimination?

I absolutely HATE any form of positive discrimination and 'targets' such as this in business.

Just hire the right person for the job regardless of sex/colour, if it happens to be your whole office is full of white males, then so what?

I don't care if my colleagues are black/white/green/blue/yellow, or whether they are male/female or somewhere in between, but I do care if they can do the job...

I would like to know what world you are living in which has this almost ubiquitous high speed internet?

Sure in the UK I can rely on my 3G, and I have a decent provider so I don't pay a fortune for ever GB... but traveling? have you ever seen roaming charges??

Yes if your doing something that needs minimal data, its fine, but the cloud is only as good as your internet, and internet can be very very spotty...

Same here! (although an Android version would be even more convenient, if hard to play)

Re: You guys are reminding me of children...

"OK, it would be nice if everyone calmed down. The feedback from people posting here is clear. As I've said before, you're treating the redesign as tantamount to physical assault, which isn't right."

It was an assault for many people, sure not physical, but mentally, an assault on the senses, surely a 'beta' site would have been the way to go, get feedback before giving the new site to the masses..

"All I can say is: we're working on it. If we rush out a change, everyone posting here will go apeshit again."

Just roll it back to a previous version while you work on it...
