Queue the hoards of people who think that scientific method has no basis whatsoever in producing a reliable conclusion. Only having been there is reliable. Dinosaurs didn't exist unless you were there! Co2 doesn't have harmful health effects unless you can transport yourself to the future and see for yourself. Co2 doesn't contribute to global warming unless for the same reason.
There's this thing called science folks, and it's more reliable than your emotion based motivated reasoning by about 1 billion to one (I don't have data to back that up, it just feels right - tic).
Having just received my Jolla I'm already scheming up Other-Halves for it. If nothing else make one that isn't so slippery.
Where's the .porn domain? Seems like that would be the first one out the door considering the money made in that market.
Are we forgetting Easyjet was wrong?
It seems in all the posts here that everyone is focusing on the guy being a bit of a wanker but are we forgetting that Easyjet was going to ban someone from a plane because of their reporting on something true that happened that made Easyjet look bad?
Re: And Eric Schmidt's climatological background is ... What, exactly?
Have you looked for conclusive evidence or just haven't seen any because you didn't SEE any? When 95% of the worlds climate scientists agree I have a tendency to take notice. Maybe Google did too since they have a tendency to search for stuff.
Re: What's his angle?
There's 1000x as much money involved in making greenhouse gases then there are in stopping people from making them. The economics argument never worked.
Re: Seemed like a perfectly relevant comment to me
The economy... Have you not noticed?
We used to get groceries delivered to our doors until we realized that paying double for our groceries and having them thawing on our doorstep when we get home from work is a bad idea. The UK never got that message because they're used to paying double for everything anyway.
Albertsons and Safeway both rolled out home delivery about 5 years ago. At first you'd see trucks everywhere and not you rarely see any. That's because paying someone else to go around and pack up your groceries, get in a truck and deliver them to your door costs a lot more than just driving to the store yourself. As anyone who's looked at Amazon grocery prices will know they're very expensive, sometimes unbelievably so. I don't know why they'd want to get into such a low profit area.
"On the desktop, the primary Fedora installer is saddled with Gnome 3, which remains an exercise in questionable decisions and poor usability."
As said by someone who secretly misses Windows 95 and never took the time to learn Gnome 3.
You're not killing restaurants by using a coupon that the RESTAURANT put out! A groupon is no different than the restaurant employee standing on the corner handing out promo coupons to get you to go there.
You act like Groupon is forcing businesses to use them. I use Groupons (and Goldstar, Livingsocial, Amazon Local etc.) to try NEW restaurants. If the restaurant turns out to be crap I'm not out much. If it turns out wonderful I eat there regularly. A couple of my favorite restaurants that I frequent regularly I found through Groupon.
Some people are uncomfortable using a coupon that they PAID for and the restaurant PAID Groupon to promote. They seem to think they're accepting some sort of charity. Some people are not very bright.

Which doesn't explain why he was a dick the rest of his entire life.

"That flexibility is priceless. No one cares about spending the money, it's about doing things that are simply not possible with a Windows AD controller because you Don' get the source code."
Or having someone take away what you paid for because they chose not to support it anymore. How many pieces of hardware are laying around because Windows7 no longer supports it?
I would PAY for Samba 4 over using Microsoft AD because I will always be able to use it.
"But here's one fact that should really stick in your craw. It was APPLE, back in the late 80s, that teamed up with Acorn to turn Acorn's RISC CPU into what became the ARM architecture. They designed it specifically to use in the Newton. People who say Apple engineers nothing should read a little history so they know who helped design the first version of the ARM architecture and used it to design one of the first (if not the first) PDA nearly a quarter century ago."
Leave it up to a full time Kool-aid drinker to think Apple invented everything. I bet that includes touch screens and square icons too right?
I hope the Facebookers don't go to Google+ to be honest. Facebook was a pretty cool place to be until MySpacers went there and ruined it. Most of the tech community is on Google+ and have all but abandoned Facebook. This means there's so many deep interesting conversations going on all day that I can't keep up. FB may have more posts but they're all "OMG have u seen this!!!".
So please, I know Google wants everyone on G+ but those of us there already don't. Tell the clones "this is the the social network you're looking for".
Finally someone who has actually used G+!. I'm amazed that there's a community of people so ignorant of the only 3rd generation social networking site out. They go there thinking that their mothers and nephews are there then sit and wait for someone to show up. Then they leave not even understanding what it was they were looking at. It's amazing.
It's like deciding they want to go out and have fun so instead of looking in the paper to see what's happening they just go stand on the streetcorner and wait for something to come along and entertain them. When that doesn't happen they declare all the clubs lame. It's weird.
You mean Hangouts? Hangouts are extremely addictive so be careful. You'll find yourself losing 20lbs and growing a beard before you realize you haven't moved in three days because of Hangouts.
If you're waiting for someone to come find you so they can post directly to you have fun with that. It's social NETWORKING. Search for someone you've heard of and circle them. Or even better search for topic you're interested in and circle people who make great posts and/or great comments. Or you could even add any of the millions of public circles out there and you'll have so many interesting posts you won't be able to keep up. There really are a lot of people on it but you can't complain that nobody is asking you to go hang out with them when you're couped up in your apartment.
Create a second gmail account and a G+ account associated with that. Was that so hard? *sigh*
You're talking to the wrong tech types. There's millions of tech people on G+. Look around a bit.
Taking at least one second to understand something before posting would be a great first step. Just because someone is paying attention to your PUBLIC posts doesn't mean they are in your group. Those same people could be reading your comment here. Does that make you feel uncomfortable?
If you circle someone then they can see posts to that circle ie. private posts. ONLY people in that circle can see them, same as FB. The difference in FB is that all of your friends and usually their friends too can see what you're posting, commenting on and liking making it difficult to ever know how public your data is. Now with FB defaulting to public posts it's even moreso.
Can I upvote that about a million times? I have more interesting conversations on G+ each day than I do on FB every month. That isn't an exaggeration either. Maybe that isn't what FBers want though. There have been a few Facebookers wander over to G+ and look around before saying "I don't understand all of those big words" before leaving.
There's no +1 button because someone forgot to send The Register an invite. That's why they're so bitter toward the only decent social networking site on the Internet.
How do I get an n950?
How do we apply to buy an n950. I'm a registered developer but I haven't gotten any notification from them.
Referring to Linux as Ubuntu isn't very fair as Enterprise Linux has had sandboxing for quite a while with it's Mandatory Access Control systems (SELinux). With EL6 you can now sandbox any application you want as well as sandboxing users. Ubuntu however has used AppArmor which technically is Mandatory Access Control it isn't as extensive as SELinux. As far as whole disk encryption that's been a part of Linux for a really long time. Ubuntu again uses home directory encryption and leaves the OS alone (because the OS on a Desktop computer doesn't change). ASLR is mostly implemented on Linux and you have the choice to forcing 100% ASLR but it's third party. If you pick up an older Linux Security book and try to install patches for ASLR you'll realize they're already there and have been for years.
It's nice to see Apple catching up to Linux though, it's better for everyone if ALL OS's are secure. Ubuntu on the other hand needs to spend more time thinking about security. They need to finally dump AppArmour, adopt Redhats SELinux build, apply all security patches, finish policykit and finally get rid of sudo.
I have an n900 (1.3) and it works just fine with exchange.
Nokia joins Motorola
Motorola had the same dominant position in the market before Nokia took over and have you seen them lately? I think they have 4% globally or something. It doesn't take much to lose 80% marketshare when you do one stupid thing after another.
120 million < 20 million
True smart phones cost more but they make 10x as many feature phones than smart phones. I don't know if it's 10x (I looked it up last time) but it may be 6x.
All of my friends and co-workers are using it. Only about 25% of my family are.
Radios have ads
It seems to me that if traditional radio can pay their bills using advertising then streaming radio should too. Then offer a subscription service with no ads.
A shred of proof would be nice
"Due to the way they are structured "sole proprietor" and similar methods of starting a small company while limiting liability to the founder's personal assets, these businesses will be taxed at the personal income rate."
This was ALWAYS the case!!! I've had a sole proprietorship for nearly 20 years and we've done our taxes exactly the same way each year and that will continue. What's irritating is that people like you point this out and claim it's something new. You also think that someone making $200k a year would have a sole proprietorship. What kind of idiot would not be incorporated at that level? Generally once you break $60k you incorporate. My health insurance costs have not gone up. It's easy to make up numbers...
"Keep in mind that the mass exodus of jobs started when the government started forcing corporations to have higher and higher overhead for their local employees and the current crop of liberally educated business majors started cooking the books."
Perhaps ONE example would be nice or maybe Rush Limbaugh didn't provide any proof. The mass exodus started happening when we moved all of our corporations out of the country because people work for $3000 a year in China and people in the U.S. make on average $46,000. Look around... It doesn't matter what government we have our corporations only worry about the bottom line - making money. If the average income of the entire planet was identical we'd have those corporations making stuff here.
