Battle of the ego

This was an article about extra video support for the PS3, just because the PS3 finally gets it does not mean that the 360 version is worse.

People with either buy one machine or the other based on a whole heap of thoughts and priorities.

If you like PS3 good, if you prefer the 360 good if you like both good as well.

Personally I've got the PS3 but if a game comes out that I want on the 360 then I might consider buying one as well, I've still got a spare HDMI slot on the back of the telly. Both machines are pretty close overall, which is why all these comments always come down to splitting hairs rather than highlighting huge differences.

If you lot don't grow up then you best go out and get yourselves a Wii, a much better reflection of your maturity.

Why Bother

In todays market and ever falling costs of technology and convergence does it really matter which studio uses which format.

Multi format players will be affordable (not cheap, not yet) soon, it took DVD players a couple of years to become affordable, and once production is ramped up so should hd players.

In a couple of years we'll be watching downloads anyway, either through sat, broadband or a method that hasn't established itself yet.

Forces pay mess blamed on human error

Training What Trg

Whilst saving 250m a year in costs the MOD decided not to spend much more than a couple of pennies on trg, 2 and a half days to understand a radically different system to those that went before it.

Human error is probably the problem, made worse by no funds being made available for worthwhile training.

Don't make the Servicemen suffer

Servicemen do the bidding of the government of the day. They go where they are told and try to do the best they can for their country, unit and mates.

Now after a decade of new and continued operations with a decreasing budget, wages and benefits and other sides of service life people are leaving.

Voters have allowed this overworking of the forces by not being ready to increase their taxes or voting out the present Govt so as voters you need to consider I am willing to pay for what my government wants to do or should I tell my government to scale back what the forces do.

We are now a much smaller and insignificant country on the world stage, we no longer have an empire, just a collection of disparate islands here and there, let us reduce what we do and try to do that as well as our resources allow us.

You don't have to support the war to support the troops.

Convergence

Swiss army knife or all your eggs in one basket.

I have been down the smartphone route and like most others got pi55ed off with the poor battery life and buggy apps.

What is the point of having a device that claims to do every thing but none of them really well or for long.

I now have my Tom Tom for getting around, Ipod classic (with all my lossless CDs on) for music, a standard phone for calls and a filofax (Judas I know) for telling me when to be somewhere and where they are.

The big difference is they are all ready when I need them, once Apple et al get a battery life that relates to real world usage then I'll dip my toe back in the smartphone arena but not before.

Get your own content

There are many ways of getting Apple TV Content that's worth watching, TVmax+, for one, allows you to pull programmes from a sky plus or freeview DVR and put them on a harddrive. Why pay Apple for DRM content when, with a little effort, you don't have to.

Cheap and free software allows you to back your DVDs up to your computer and these backups can be easily converted to Apple TV compliant codecs.

Youtube wasn't designed for the living room, watch you've been framed instead, the quality just isn't their, that's content as well not just video quality.

And finally, it doesn't really matter what size the internal harddrive is, this is a streamer with the convience of a Hard Drive for your favorites or for use as a buffer, having another location to store my video/music/photos/etc in addition to my NAS/Computers will just get more confusing.
