Racist Reg hacks slammed for 'vitriolic hatred'

"England or the English or to a man or woman from the West Indies"

Whats that got to do with anything.... you want unfair... any american or chinese, or basically ANY film in the world, if there is a badguy, he will have an english accent.

" McLachlan noted that one third of fatal accidents involve drivers under 25, and observed: "Young men in particular seem to think they are invincible behind the wheel - but the facts tell a different story." "

What the f*ck has that got to do with anything?!? No, not young men in particular.... what he means here is "young pikey t*ssers" - because I never took a video of myself speeding when I was under 25, I didn't feel invincible either, didn't feel the need to race anybody, didn't feel the need to remove my exhaust and pimp my sound system... I also never crashed. I am getting p*ssed off with young men being branded as speed demons, accident prone boy-racers when in actual fact it is more to do with the binge-drinking-drug-induced-chav culture of a select few that go about killing people and themselves in souped-up corsa's!! Somehow this year my premium has gone from £1000+ for an unmodified Renault Laguna, to £400.... why? Well, because I am over 25. So how come I was more likely to crash last year than I am this year, travelling further in an older car??

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

TorrentSpy shuts doors to America

@Anon@Dam

Encrypted newsgroups ARE the way to go... because unless the ISP/CIA stores every bit of data you downloaded in the hope of decrypting it later through whatever method they use (I'm about 3 years out of date with encryption breaking stuff since uni ended) then its safe to assume they will still be trying to get unencrypted bittorrent users instead as it would be much more cost effective and easier!

Shattered teens subsisting on 'junk sleep'

Law

omg

I never fell asleep unintentionally doing any of those things as a kid.... but I often saw my dad fall asleep after eating a sunday roast - or my mum fall asleep while reading a book!! As a concerned ex-teenage I believe it's my right to ban reading and eating of sunday roasts for anybody who was born before 1980!! It's only right we allow our oldies to have a boring life and not enjoy the things they want to do when tired sat at home.... oh wait, hang on a minute.... maybe thats the link!

Families bond over video games: report

Law

re: title

So its a choice of

a: play computer games,

OR

b: "take their kids to the park and play football? Or to a museum. Or out for a walk. Or to the beach. Or to the theatre"

I love my Wii, and my 360... but I equally would have done any of the other bits too had I been a kid.

But tell me, how is going to the theatre any more bonding than playing WarioWare? Plus - not all parent's have all the money in the world... or the energy to drag a family out every night to do each one of your suggestions! :)

Aussie gov anti-porn filter 'useless', says teen

Law

this sucks

So... they censor porn (or at least try).... but my guess is that the people for this type of censorship don't realise that the xbox 360 they stuck in their kids room, with the headset and a couple of 18rated games exposes them to alot more damage than an image of a naked woman playing with ping-pong balls!!

Im 26, and I have such a hard time playing Gears of War online, mainly because I have 12 year old kids telling me they f**ked my mum last night, and that I'm a dirty n*gger, or a noob... At first, it was funny (sorta)... but the longer I spend online, the more kids there are doing this - and the more I realise that they are actually being serious. Parents who buy these games for their kids, then claim that the internet is corrupting their kids need to seriously look at whether they should be bringing anybody into the world when they obviously can't be trusted to protect them themselves! Whats worse is, one kid freaks out and kills somebody or attacks somebody and then the games industry is under-fire.... nobody questions where the kids got the games from in the first place.

Censorship sucks... and it's a slippery slope... and usually it's the thick people who push the rest of us down that slope!

WTF?????

WTF?!

That rich brat Nicole Richie gets slapped rist for driving the wrong way down a motorway while high and drunk....... yet somebody uploads a film and he is forced to get in to bed with satan (windoze), jail time (??) and have his privacy ripped away from him!! I seriously don't get the legal system.... it used to protect people, now it just protects companies! I would scoff at the american legal system, but ours is barely any better!

Comcast throttles BitTorrent users

Law

@Jason Rivers

You would think the world would agree... but normally they hide conditions and blurry "fair use" policies.... I had the same problem using newsgroups with PlusNet about 2 years ago... after many useless phonecalls to equally useless people I eventually just paid to leave since they wanted to keep me locked in for a further 6 months.... I wasn't happy and will never use them again.

If you ISP takes the piss - leave. It's the only message. The problem is people put up with it... few complain and even fewer fight - it needs to change.

Personally - I use encrypted newsgroups on Be... even if they did spy on me, they can't see what I'm downloading anyway... the way it SHOULD be! :)

Imagine having BT listening in to every call you make... and eventually blocking certain words because "the majority of phone users do not exceed 4 uses of this word a month".... there would be an outcry! lol

Virgin Media boss in shock exit

Law

I got an idea

Why don't NTL/VirginMedia/Whatever to all pitch in with BT and the government who all seem to think it will cost too much, then get them to convert our old copper system to a fibre system.... then they can sell us all the services under the sun on our 8gb connections!! :)

TVLA

There is a campaign somewhere to actually get the TV license removed... anybody who hates the tax enough should join it... I did about 4 years ago and it still hasn't stopped.

I move house.... alot.... and the one thing I always ignore are repeated claims I didn't have a TV license... I also refuse to give my postcode and house number to people in places like Tesco, Curries etc where I would buy TV equipment. Not been sued yet, dispite lots of letters.

The funny thing is, I actually have a license... but I noticed early on when I began moving every 6 months that alot of these letters a auto-generated.... if you ignore them, they essentially forget about it. If they visit your home, you don't let them in without a policeman present... they have no rights to enter without your consent!

I love how the TVLA get more rights & money to threaten & bully people and arrange advertisement campaigns designed to scare - and yet, our amazing benefits system is only allowed to say "No Ifs... No Buts... " in their campaigns to reduce benefit fraud, something we all pay for!!

ISPs hijack BBC in tiered services push

Law

omg

So what would happen if the big business' such as BBC/BT/ISPs etc all invested in a fibre infrastructure instead of the shite copper we are trying to squeeze every drop out of these days? It's not a bandwidth problem... it's a not wanting to invest in more infrastructure problem. In some asian countries they can upload AND download at the same speeds... imagine! :o

I wish rip-off britain would end, and we would actually get what we pay for... rather than half the service at twice the cost of most other modern digital countries.

'Portable' CD player puts MP3 into a spin

Law

annnnnd

they should have:

- ripping to internal storage,

- ability to act as an external USB CD/DVD drive for PC's

- ability to write to DVD/CD from a PC and it's internal mp3's storage

- ability to read mp3 cds/dvds

- wifi abilities - so we can all share the music we rip! :)

But most importantly, once all these features are added (and DRM free btw), it already has the ability to turn upright, point at recordindustry/apple/microsoft - and give them the V's! :)

My guess is, it's something strange is on the titanic, that will most likely have the doctor and Kylie running around trying to save the day on a doomed titanic.... but anybody could guess that! lol... or they could just have the doctor sat around moping about how his little chav ho is stuck in another parallel universe, and his new one just left him because shes clingy and emotional and he didn't go there... that would probably make the episode slightly boring tho.

Facebook security glitch exposes user in-boxes

Law

RE: So?

It's not awful, and the layout is fine.

It follows all the "taught rules" of web design... it's not in your face really... it doesn't let people do annoying backgrounds like myspace...

I'm not a fanboy, infact I only added my profile about 2 weeks ago... I just hate it when opinionated idiots post comment's that just are basically wrong and insult the developers of a pretty well-designed website. You will never get a website everybody likes, but to claim it has a poor layout, and then suggest that as a reason for a security glitch is just idiotic.

The website never served up other peoples inbox's before, so it's either a code update gone wrong, or somebody malliciously attacked the site...

The BBC iPlayer 'launch' that wasn't

Law

omg

Just download the programs via bittorrent or better still, usenet.

If you get it through usenet, it downloads at maximum speed of your broadband connection (depending on who your with), best of all it's DRM free and excellent quality. I do this for all bbc programs I miss, basically because I don't see the difference between that, and borrowing a DVD/VHS from the guy next door who did manage to tape it. I pay my license fee, I don't keep the video anyway (why would I once I seen it?) and I don't sell it on!

From the sounds of it, if everybody did the same our license fee would be put to better use... like better programmes and broadcasting infrastructure!!

Craig, spot on!! :) I been asking myself all month - how come the North West had more rainfall than anywhere else in England this month, yet we didn't suffer the agony of severe flooding and the madness of lost power and bad water that others have had.... at first I thought that it was just southern-softies complaining more, but then I realised it was actually more serious down there... so what is it thats the problem?? Personally, I think they don't have enough canals (we loves canals), they spend more time being ripped off by inadequate flood defences (100 year guarantee claimed on within a year??), and that they are just more likely to buy on a flood plain because "look - its pretty" or "oh, thats cheap".

BBC Trust backs calls for Linux iPlayer

Law

Errmnmmmm

Shouldn't the Beeb have thought about open systems BEFORE paying someone to write a Windows only platform? It's released in a few days, so now we have managed to pay for a Windows version, next will be Mac... then eventually (in the distant distant future) a Linux system.

It would be nice if they just built one system from the start that worked on all of them....

And to the anon person who said:

"Why bother? Isn't this just a waste of the licence fee for the 3 people that will use it?"

.... well basically because I and the two other guys pay a license fee too you short sighted t*sser....

RE: Very Nice

Oh, also forgot to say - I fail to see your point?! So, because companies arn't happy about it - they can dictate laws from another country? Or whiney US record labels can basically bully anybody they want into closing down??

Not that I would ever buy anything from these guys, but rather than imprisonning people because some companies complained about them making money legally from within their own countries laws, maybe the Russian authorities should be modifying their laws to suit what the rest of us have.... a US style system that rewards the record companies for being bullies and liars - while punishing music lovers with DRM/ManufacturedCrapArtists/LawSuitsAgainstStudents/BullyingTactics.

Just a thought.....

Got Sky but no computer? Book yourself a doctor's appointment

Law

RE: Bad Idea

It's not all doom and gloom... think about the people who don't have the option to just ring the surgery and book appoints between 9-5... also think of the old dears who know how to use teletext, but not a PC. Also think about not having to wait on the phone for 20 minutes, to find out that the appointment will be free in 3 weeks time.

The idea is good, not really experienced Emis myself so can't comment on the implementation.... but seriously, how hard can it be to find some free time in a database and let somebody book it.... not that hard.

So, in short - good idea, but if Emis do it badly, I will write the damn thing for the NHS free of charge... cos I'm cool like that! ;)

PS - I know one of the testers there, so there is at least one competent person over at Emis....

RE: One more reason

Out of the few artists that were seen as classic's such as Beatles, Led Zeppelin etc - how many countless artists just churned out bad music??

I would have to say that actually, creativity levels are about the same, it's just that the industry seems to be marketing the drivel more than the good stuff.

I'm pretty sure that many people at the time of the beatles/elvis/LZ would have said "wtf is this crap - bring back <insert random wartime-singer> - those were the good old days".

History repeats itself, we just see history through rose-tinted specs!

Re: High Time

@Will Leamon: "Just admit it. You don't want to pay for music."

Total Bollocks! I took the £50-£100 a month I used to pay for CD's, and stopped lining the pockets of an industry that claimed I was killing it when I was actually supporting it.

The second somebody like Apple brings DRM free 256kbps albums for the same price I used to pay for my plastic disks (£8-£12) I will start investing that cash back in. Unfortunately, the DRM free crap is still a long way from the price we should be paying, so it stays in my pockets for now.

Oh, I also stopped buying DVD's the second they forced me to watch a 10 minute presentation on the evils of piracy that was unskippable... seriously, wtf?! So if somebody downloads a DVD rip they don't have to sit through this crap EVERYTIME they want to watch the DVD... interesting... so guess what I do now. ;)

I love me films - so I still go cinema and watch the same stupid advert, but at least I have friends and other fans to Boo with me at the screen in protest!

A simple "Thanks for paying to watch our film, we appreciate it. Please let others know watching in the cinema is better" notice that flashes up for a few seconds would be cool.... but no, we have 10 minutes of either

"you wouldn't kill a child would you? No! So why would you buy a DVD from the mafia who funds his killing spree's with your dvd money?! And even worse - its bad quality too"

OR

"Downloading is illegal, the cinema rocks... it's amazing *cue annoying audience screaming at a roaring lion from recent film*... but on a pirate video the the video quality is crap, and sound tinny, and your view is spoilt from the guy who had to go to the loo in front...."

thats usually the time when some huge guy sits in front of me and blocks my view, or the kid behind starts kicking my seat... or.... *takes deep breath* - well, needless to say, I don't like the ad's.

I wouldn't touch Sony with a barge pole... they may not feel the loss of my purchases, but I also vow to turn every Sony fanboy I meet into boycotters too until they realise what they release should benefit their customers as well as their profits... not just their profits!

Oh... and who wrote the software for their NetMD's that they forced you to install to use the things, you know the one... the one that converted your entire clean MP3 collection to their format, then refused to let you play a file on the PC if you had "checked out" a song onto any minidisk device without checking it back in!!

BBC Trust to hear open sourcers' iPlayer gripes

RE:Boo bloody hoo

Obviously a thick & rich Windows user then!! ;)

Thats mean, I use windows sometimes... we're not all thick! :)

But, like all the other Open Source advocates on here - it's not that we want the BBC to spend years making this compatible with EVERYTHING... we just want it to be open enough to be ported to other platforms.

I pay a TV license... granted, just because I have a license it don't mean I own the content, but I want to be able to at least view the content!!

If they are forcing people into one operating system or the other just because they couldn't be bothered picking a standard and sticking to it then they should reduce what everybody pays for the TV license to the tune of a Windows Vista license each I think... i.e - they pay us!! ;)

Bretons turn on Britons

Re: Britons, English or Brits?

"It wasen't the English who did that, it was a Scotish King."

Learn to spell and I might consider addressing your "point".

"What nationality does stated on your passport?"

Learn a little grammar and I might consider addressing your "point".

Meanwhile from the lack of intelligent response to my question I suppose I'll have to live without knowing if the "incomers" in the article are English as the article quotes Linsey Widd from Scarborough as saying, Britons as the Article's headline suggests or Brits as the article quotes the Telegraph as reporting.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'm English, my wife is Scottish, her family are mainly Scottish, with a bit of Swiss/Irish in there... my family are English, but with Scottish heritage and some Irish/Welsh mixed in... so what will that make our kids? Either some crazy percentage system that is English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh/Swiss.... or British?

My brother in law was born in China while his Scottish mother and father were there, they lived there for a few years, he spoke one of the chinese languages (dont know which) first, then english second... he's spent most of his adult life in England working at studying... so what is he? To most people - it isn't a big question.

This wasn't even a Scottish/English issue... its a Breton/British issue... so why ask a stupid question then wonder why nobody gives you a sensible answer!! Expected with perfect grammer no less.
