No, depends on your licence. E1 has outlook online only if I read it right (bear in mind MS never have a clear licence, so I might be wrong) Its all confusing for a reason.

Then again they did announce they are bringing back local installs and offline mode. So in two years who knows (or cares) what they will do?

Re: Looks like . .

Nah, just means people who are idiots don't read the comments sections. Which is fine because all the idiots can have their stuff taken, lives invaded or just letting them be given really poor software and services on hardware that is massively over priced but doesn't deliver on the hype. (That is just summarising the last few months of articles based on MS performance.)

Meanwhile 24 Billion and they have had 2 price rises in a year (13 and 10% - 22% if you include cloud) At what point can the words 'rip off', 'milking it' or 'taking the piss' be used?

When can we expect the bubble to burst as people realise now they are trapped with MS and Azure or office 265 but they can't afford a 10% year on year price rise. (or 22%)

Battlefield 2142 once had a full street side billboard advertising a bank, with the tag student loans and being equipped or something. I was in a massive gun fight in a robot at the time and got a screenshot of the billboard. That was a blatant advert but kind of made sense being a billboard if you ignored the fact it was 2142 and earth had run our of resources so no one wanted a bank. I think if it makes sense and doesn't stop game play, like hiding behind a vending machine which advertises drinks..

HOWEVER if they interfere, pop up or require me to watch I actively ignore the game and never go near them as a brand, so they are counter productive in my case.

And Boris Johnson who lied on international TV during the leave campaign and was voted in again by the same morons who pay for an education. It creates a set of people called MP's and look where that got us.

Then again fear mongering environmentalism suggests you are in fact not a scientist and probably a Tory supporter who thinks fracking is a good idea and has a vested interested in the petrol industry.

Its not education that awards medals for taking part and stops competition. That is social acceptance and society by wooly minded teachers or a really bad secretary of state for education. And of course piss poor parenting with laws that stop you smacking a child. I know schools that now have a charter that tells parents clearly they promote competition and it is over subscribed with a waiting list because parents actually want that.

Everything you just listed is either proven safe to breathe in like perfume because it is extensively tested or has been around for year. Or is proven harmful (like bonfires) and has other laws surrounding it.

Did I read correctly. every 4000 or so planets gives around 40 - 50 earth like candidates (call it 10% then)

And we looked just at Cygnus. (Assuming the same statistics apply to every other section of the galaxy)

So vast numbers of other planets must exist that could hold life and other human colonies.

Re: More Magic than Goldilocks orbit distance...

Conditions for life as we know might have died out. But what do we know, until we fly over it and have a look. They could metabolise methane, like insects.

According to Space.com our galaxy has a 100 billion stars (upto 400 million possible). Even at 1 in a million that would be massive amount of planets.

Or put it another way. 0.1% which would be.... A million planets out there with life? If mathematically we look at such small and infintessimal odds, say 0.01% chance. That means there could be 100,000 other planets with life. Which puts us into Star Wars territory. If 10% of them, so 0.001% achieve more than pond life then 10000 other civilisation exist for us to get wiped out by.

At 0.0001% is still a thousand. More than Star Trek?

Then again we live in a post truth trump, snoopers charter era. So spying, malware pumping ads and you renting your OS are here to stay.

Ubuntu Linux daddy Mark Shuttleworth: Carrots for Unity 8?

Avatar of They

Ubuntu meh!

Unity was the death knell for me, quickly hammered in by its Amazon links. I went to MINT - I think it was a memory hog on older systems, or just didn't seem slick or fast so I didn't take to it. And not being able to see the tiny arrows showing me I had open windows or scrolling without a mouse wheel just seemed odd.

Recently I got the Dell xps with ubuntu native to it and I have to suffer Unity in a later version and can't get away from it. Four years on and still can't see tiny arrows showing me open windows and on a 4k screen it is even worse for my eyesight. Add in that I have icons scrolled off the bottom and on a touchpad I don't have a mouse wheel so can't scroll up or down in windows and I wonder who actually prefers Unity and why Ubuntu continue to steam roller ahead with it.

Thoughts of an all inclusive on any desktop version of Unity makes me shudder. This movement to having to type everything as it doesn't list your icons anymore, how will that work on a touch pad? What about scrolling in a window because the scroll bar on the side has gone. Going to have to overhaul a lot more than pretty icons to make it seamless between formats.

Re: Enough Whining.

I lasted 3 days. I did an upgrade of my games machine, spent a few hours removing candy crush, telemetry and mirror.co.uk. (They came back) I tried to find some features and was directed by an MS article into the DISM or whatever powershell is called in Windows 10. While typing a command in powershell I suddenly had a moment when I thought, "I am in a command line, in Windows... an actual command line. This isn't Linux WTF."

As a mainly Linux user since 2008 I found it ironic they are copying Linux with multiple desktops and command lines. So I had a little laugh to myself as I couldn't find in windows 10 what I was after anyway, shook myself back into reality and rolled back to windows 7 (It is for my games machine you see)

But after reading the EULA on initial install and marvelling at how there isn't a "No" option without using invisible scroll bars to find it is below what you can see, it is easy to see how people get sucked into giving all their data away.
