Give me real choices
When my choices are limited to the 20 movies in the iTunes store; cable-based services that don't work properly or piracy (and I already pay "piracy taxes" on my internet connection) then, well, it's not a complex decision right? (I'm in the Netherlands)
that said, since spotify came into the house, we've not downloaded any music illegally.
if the completely artificial barriers to me having access to Netflix/lovefilm etc are removed, my own experience would suggest that movie/tv-series downloading would also stop.
fabulus story - how do I opt out?
I love my antipodean cousins.. indeed, I've had many a lover from far south of the equator, best served by the Queensland and northern territories air service
but with all due respect, how do I de-subscribe from the Register Southern-Service?
Agreed, to many it's fascinating - nah, even important... fabulous. I wish them the very best.. I just don't want to have to filter my European news for it... Am I wrong? OK, beat me with a soft swishy-cane.. I can handle-it...
Just gimme the Opt-Aut-button....
here you go - for the gifted (or challenged) shy gentleman
Read the section "finding the perfect condom"
(no I don't work there; yes I do live in Amsterdam; yes I do use this service)
Both the prosthetic and the bloke - respect in every way
I'd just change the video in one way - as he sits down to watch the telly with the glass in his one hand, I'd just have him crush the bottle and give a slightly evil grin :)
...with the other non UK chap
get it, yes, yes, yes, you're a UK based company, us mainland euroweenies have no right to freebies, etc, but a small note on the main page reminding us of our inadequacies (UK only.. for example) would be welcome.
or even better let us compete too...
So my G2 Apple TV sits like a very small quiet out the way thing, connected via HDMI to my amp and to all my NAS shares via cabled ethernet (well, the switch is in a cupboard 3ft away), all controlled effortlessly by a logitech harmony remote. Even my total Luddite spouse can use it.
Of course, I had to jailbreak and install XMBC - and now it plays anything (even 1080 content, tho downscaled to 720) - so I have the flexibility of using the iTunes ecosystem; AirPlay for music, or photos when friends visit; and the ability to play just about any media type.
At €99 its hard not to justify really. As soon as the xbmc / jailbreak option works on ATV3, I'll be having one for the bedroom, thank you very much.
thank the SBJ
all power to you lot over in England right now, but every day I thank the Sweet Baby-J that its you guys with the advert-promotional-marketing-slobber-fest that is "this summers' festivities" and not here in (the real) Europe.
Even tho, I still get a nauseating 10min advert from the sweet-dark-fizzy drink people every-freaking-time I go see a movie.
yeah, but so what
at the (high) risk of sounding like a total dolt, what does it actually mean if they find it?
Will it mean some boffin somewhere can create a time machine, or an FTL drive, or a Transporter beam, or a death-star ray gun?
Its fabulously important sounding, but where does it take us (us=humanity..)
So perhaps this is where the Madge Vadge got her training from...
why does it have to be one or the other?
The article suggests app buyers need to head to one camp or the other
bugger that - I'll browse and buy from which ever gives me the best of what I want.
A viable competitor to anything is usually good - this is no exception
the difference..(possibly, perhaps, maybe)
is that it's inappropriate to make fun of something someone was born with (short, red, gay, black) vs something someone has control over (fat, smelly, lazy)
And, of course, where humour and good natured ragging inadvertently supports real bigotry.
There is institutionalised discrimination against gay people, black people (and white people) and real physical harm is dealt to these groups
I've yet to hear or read of some religious nut-job calling for the death of red-heads.
apology and a free speed cam sub
So I got an email from TomTom last night (I live in the Netherlands) explaining their disgust and offering me a free sub to their speed camera add on
now all I need is a car again.
Personally, I like their response. It was quick and - for me, and probably all us Dutchies - effective
Reading these articles, and then reading the NYT.BBC etc articles - well, its like there are two different events being described.
I admire Lewis' writings, but I can't help getting the slight feeling he's got an agenda here.
Still, I chose to believe his reporting over the babble being spewed by the more mainstream press, which we know, for sure, has many agendas.
at the risk of provoking a flame war
where does OS X sit in this?
I know the OS itself is (at least mostly) 64bit, and many of the apps that I run show as '64-bit intel', what happens to the system as a whole when a 32-bit app runs?
is this give an old story a home day?
I held out on an iPhone 4 because of the original version of this story - but then I got an AR Drone for christmas and my ancient 3G just couldn't hack it
and you know what, I just don't get signal degradation *that-I-notice*
perhaps its coz here in the Netherlands we have good signal coverage? I have no idea. Perhaps it's coz the actual effect in real life is nominal?
light... particle and wave..
University physics was a long time ago for me, and there has been a lot of illicitness between then and now..
but, that aside, if my addled memory functions as it should, the theory about light is that it is both wave and particle.
so this cancels the wave, but what about the particle?
I stupidly went to the murdered out web site
and then, even more stupidly read some of the comments from the rocket scientists who visit.
I can feel my brain leaking out my ass in an attempt to get away from my eyes as punishment
I'm holding out
a) coz my 3G - scratched, scuffed and not anywhere near pristine still does the job that I want
b) coz I reckon the white 4 will have tweaks not mentioned - as is the Apple Way
c) coz T-Mobile here in the Netherlands have had an 8 week waiting list for the black one which just puts me off.
this wingnut and ol' Ted Haggard play down-on-their-knees together?
you should see some of the rigid feminine pleasure devices on sale here in Amsterdam
if one of them was waved at me with violence in mind, I'd turn and run.
fast and far.
(oh-beer-thirty approaches. Fast)
felt a flush of red thru me nethers reading that
Whilst I absolutely love his articles and read them from first to last word, and thoroughly respect his knowledge and opinion, I do feel the bootnote at the end of Lewis' document should be modified like this:
Lewis Page is a former Royal Navy officer, who left after 11 years' service in order to avoid wasting his time and the taxpayers' money aboard frigates and destroyers - and to avoid becoming bitter about fuckwits in government
I do believe
the M25 is already sung about as "the road to hell"
perhaps we could line xtians up along its entirely length whispering their sweet nothings to their sweet nothing as motorists drive happily (gayly?) around it
Larry is writing for The Reg now?
What happened to Critical Thinking in the journalistic process?
this model will work for me
I've done the buy-vhs, buy-DVD bit..
fool me once, shame on you
fool me twice, shame on me..
so no more movie buying for me thanks - I just don't watch them again, and again, and again
well, not typically. Occasionally there'll be something worth while to watch several times, but that's probably a movie I'll watch after a few years again
So this really does work for me.
AppleTV looks interesting now
To my mind, the previous AppleTV was too expensive, which meant a Mac Mini was the better bet, but for that money, a PS3 and a lot of change was an even better bet
now, the AppleTV is priced where it should have been
