For the sake of non-Australian readers, surely the opening paragraph should be prefixed with:
"The Australian telecoms giant ..."
Ask yourself, Sir El Reg Australian Editor, what percentage of your readership would have a clue who Telstra are or why they should / should not give a toss about them?

Whether the Samba client can do a good enough job of preserving permissions when talking to a Windows host is perhaps another matter...

I'd also suggest using VirtualBox OSE instead of VMware since it's free as in speech/libre.
It might be worth mentioning that this is an MHEG implementation of iPlayer, which means that once other devices get their Freeview HD MHEG engines up to scratch the service will work on them too.

Have you tried downloading linux drivers from nvidia.com? I've never had any (major) problems with 'em, but I do run Fedora on the machine that has an nvidia card.
Can't stand Windo$e and kudos to those experimenting with dual boot. Just remember to blow away the NTFS partition when you're finished ;-)
However I do remember back in the day I used %TEMP% to locate the temp directory. That would simplify the instructions on page #1 somewhat, don't you think El Reg?
