Telstra cozies up to small end of town

purplefloyd
Dead Vulture

Telstra? Who?

For the sake of non-Australian readers, surely the opening paragraph should be prefixed with:

"The Australian telecoms giant ..."

Ask yourself, Sir El Reg Australian Editor, what percentage of your readership would have a clue who Telstra are or why they should / should not give a toss about them?

Vieracast

It's definitely Panasonic Vieracast, not Samsung. The URLs in the linked-to article make this a certainty.

Beer, coz it's now Friday evening.

How do you copy 60m files?

purplefloyd
FAIL

rsync -a

like cp -a. Preserves metadata. The a is for 'archive'...

tar preserves metadata by default...

Whether the Samba client can do a good enough job of preserving permissions when talking to a Windows host is perhaps another matter...

Downvoted...

Downvoted because free software is never hard to get your hands on.

<-- Beer, since RichCopy is only free as in...

I'd also suggest using VirtualBox OSE instead of VMware since it's free as in speech/libre.

MHEG

It might be worth mentioning that this is an MHEG implementation of iPlayer, which means that once other devices get their Freeview HD MHEG engines up to scratch the service will work on them too.

Beer 'cos it's that time of day...

Ain't gonna happen

...that's about as likely as iTunes supporting multiple music retailers.

Unless Jobs gets his cut of the sales it ain't gonna happen.

WTF?

Java? Applet? Winamp?

Did you post that from the 1990s? The FF4 beta adds _javascript_ API to the _browser_.

And wtf is http5!?!

You're kidding right?

nvidia.com?

Have you tried downloading linux drivers from nvidia.com? I've never had any (major) problems with 'em, but I do run Fedora on the machine that has an nvidia card.

%TEMP%

Can't stand Windo$e and kudos to those experimenting with dual boot. Just remember to blow away the NTFS partition when you're finished ;-)

However I do remember back in the day I used %TEMP% to locate the temp directory. That would simplify the instructions on page #1 somewhat, don't you think El Reg?

"Telstra Sims"

Will Wright must be clutching at straws if that's the latest addition to the series.

But I guess it still sounds more enjoyable than Farmville. Though in all likelihood most of the game would be spent controlling your Sim who is playing Farmville on Telstra time...
