"normal use"
What is this exactly? I get nearly a week between charges on my Nokia Lumia but then for me 'normal use' is not very much, whereas some people are constantly on their phone. Which does El Reg consider 'normal'?

I have the 610, by far the lowest-spec WP7 device. I don't think it's more than 5s for me, unlike the 10s quoted, for any app... even switching back into Nokia Drive. I believe the 610 has a never version of the OS to make it even faster, maybe the writer's phone doesn't have that version?
btw: to spend £160 and get a decent smartphone with fully functional world-wide sat-nav strikes me as a wonderful deal. This is one of the big bonuses for me although probably iOS will do it soon too.
The Fire2 clearly won't be the same spec as the Fire1 though, so could in turn trump on Google.
If they only had a limited number of units, they might as well test them in a single market first. A few nerds saying "not interested any more" doesn't change the fact that in 1-2 years everyone with a tablet now will be buying a newer model.
Java is a nice language. I have a soft spot for my childhood sweetheart C++ but Java is so much easier to work with (unless you're doing UI) and has such awesome libraries.
Probably C# is my favourite to code in since it makes GUI & DB fairly easy, has the nice stuff from Java as well as more of C++'s cool stuff AND all that functional type stuff.
>>have you considered that they might be thinking they are heroes of the minority,
That still sounds like something you could say of terrorists.
I dislike Anon but regardless of that I think the only long term legacy they might leave is INCREASED security and DECREASED privacy, because they perfectly embody what everyone is worried about in an ungoverned internet.
