Re: one of the very worse languages ever invested
I do however quite like AS3 which I think is just the next version of ECMA (please correct me). But I like it because it's basically just like Java... all that prototyping stuff is gone.
TBH if JS had proper dev tools in the same vein as Eclipse/VS I'm sure it would be just fine, so maybe it's simply the DOM and browser aspects that put me off.
For goodness' sake
"Let's pick the worst language we can find with the worst dev tools."
Yes, yes. I'm sure JS on it's own is an elegant language. But you don't use a language in isolation.
How's it work?
What if not everyone wants to sell? Do they only have to get a majority and can then force everyone to sell? Will every single share owner get a letter asking them about this?
Wouldn't it make sense for DELL to come up with a few bits of REALLY bad news to depress their share price first...?
I didn't say the HP has no SSD, it's plainly stated in the article that it does.
I was referring to "Only the Acer C7 – which uses an actual, spinning hard disk"; as I said I thought the ChromeOS specified SSD must be used.
I thought ChromeOS required an SSD, how did someone else get a spinny one through?
So a little 'booth' in the middle of a busy throughfare... hardly a peaceful environment. And of course, what about all those people (nearly all of them) who have 3G?
Blocking WiFi, 3G and phone coverage would be better. I'd quite like pubs which had such systems, and train Quiet coaches.
OK grandad. You stay out of the modern world and we'll keep off your lawn.
Re: Even a Portable Faraday Cage?
They said the law was about intent. So a building which accidentally blocks signal would not have that.
Re: "Some of our Customers..."
Which is a small proportion of their total customer base.
Re: If you are having trouble connecting to the Internet
Seems the affected customers have no problem accessing FaceBook or Twitter, so their main uses are not affected!
>>I can't see pure hydrogen ever taking over from a Hydrocarbon..
Even when the latter run out or are scare enough the price goes up 10X?
Re: Key assumption:
- Weight is still an issue
- Fast charge requires infrastructure all of its own... that will be the limiting factor
Re: More coal fueled power stations needed?
Burning coal in a vast plant is more efficient and less wasteful than doing so in your car. Waste can be contained far more effectively and when it must be discharged, done so strategically rather than right where all the people are.
>>Talking of forgetting to mention things, how will all the hydrogen be produced? oops
On an industrial scale meaning that the pollution per gallon of oil will be less than just burning the oil in your car.
I don't recall battery death being mentioned as an electric car criticism. Not that it's not a valid point, but I don't believe this is a major factor why the average family isn't interested.
Re: What will Oil companies do..
Oil companies will simply buy into H2 production, they've probably been planning their strategy for a decade or two.
Re: WP 7 and WP 8 bashers
So the fact I've never owned an Android phone or run Linux desktop does not diminish the credibility of my statement that they're shoddy and not user-friendly?
Using something for a few minutes or using it day in and out are totally different. If I used Linux every day I might come to love all the things I'd have to learn, which on first impressions just annoy me.
The 610 I got for £160 last year (it's a bit slow but otherwise decent). This is powerful enough to run the more demanding NT kernel and costs even less?
If it runs WP8 OK this is a seriously good deal, but that would be my main concern. Did they mention if it has SD support?
Re: Internet Exploder....
>>Fuck - another tedious rant....
You got that part right if nothing else.
Re: "...older versions of IE continue to be a real challenge for developers "
I don't think MS make any pretence about IE6 not being crap.
IE9 relied on DirectX 10 which is a core component of Windows and not available for XP. The debate is whether DX10 should have been released for XP, not IE9.
Re: Or, alternatively ...
Not going bankrupt because you stopped using proprietary software is the best endorsement you can come up with for FOSS? Great, where do I sign up.
I can agree with b) although technically I see why it is a problem to achieve and not worth the hassle with 3rd party solutions (IE6 tab, VMs available.
But there are solid technical reasons why some versions of IE only run on certain versions of Windows. The extra work it would have taken (for a purpose they don't really value) is evident if you follow the mozilla mailing lists when those things are discussed for FF.
Google Chrome – tooting the horn of web standards compliance from the very beginning
Apart from the fact it is packed full of non-standard stuff. Webkit extensions, Pepper API, NaCl, Gears, ...
Re: Just don't
MS have been campaigning for ages to get everyone to stop using IE6, and even IE7. The difference is that they don't act like a petulant child and force you to use newer versions in the same way many sites and tech-stacks (Google, Wordpress) do.
Don't let the facts get in the way of a good anti-MS rant though, Sorry, M$ I mean.
It's still a strain on the limited resources - I'm sure some games even render at less than 720p (early titles perhaps).
It's very game specific, but when I worked in the industry it was a big deal to NEVER drop below 50/60 FPS for any reason.
It will not be download only.
It will not render at 4k
It will have the grunt to render at 1080p (most Ps3 games don't)
It will have 3D functionality
It might use a special high-capacity blu-ray
In other words it will be a more powerful PS3. Consoles are generally of similar grunt to a mid-level gaming PC at time of launch, at best. So I predict we'll get a console which can push full 1080p HD to the limit, and maybe upscale to 4k, but nothing more.
Re: Some people wonder
Who is popular with everyone?
Apple stores do definitely have a unique look though. You can protect a brand...
Q to the Reg
Is there a way you can automatically tell any user quoted in such articles about that fact? I'm sure the Ts&Cs allow you to do it, I just wouldn't want to miss the ego trip :)

Everyone going 7" seems a mistake to me. The original iPad form factor seems ideal to me for browsing the web and watching video without having to zoom in on smaller text.
You can already get excellent addons for SVN-VS integration which cost money. I suppose git ones may exist too... so sucks for those companies but means MS have to make something as good.
Re: @ JDX
The tiles comment is the one METRO-specific comment, which I already pointed out. I'll give you a clue... every review of W8 has said it is faster and better than W7 in desktop mode. No go read the damn article a 3rd time and you'll spot mention of super-quick standby/reboot/etc. These are all areas W8 improves on W7.
Re: surprised at the use of iPhones.
Never mind Khaptain, if you don't get it you don't get it.
Re: @ JDX
It's not my job to baby-feed it to you. The article is literally one click away.
Re: surprised at the use of iPhones.
I guess there are a lot of non-sensible companies out there. Non-sensible, highly profitable companies.
Re: "now they just carry an iPhone"
They already had the iPhones... if they're running 7yo laptops they are not going to drop 6000 iPhones and a bespoke app.
Re: "I'm not writing puff advertisment pieces and passing them off as journalism"
There are several pro-W8 comments, and precisely 1 pro-Metro comment.
But I guess reading the article and stating facts makes me a shill.
Name just ONE feature introduced ... in the 21st century ... regularly uses,

Yes yes you could get add-ons or use OO but that's not the question. I use this all the time.
Re: Taking the iPiss!
When you say crippled, what % of iPad owners do you think struggle with running out of space?
And that's before taking into account the fact that everything you buy from iTunes is automatically stored in iCloud so you can swap which 50Gb of crap you have on the device.
I think it's mainly a problem Android fans love to latch on to regardless if it's actually a problem in real use.
Avoiding the question? No doubt we'll suddenly see a wave of Android 128Gb models because the average buyer will NEVER buy a SD card.
Re: The only tablet
must cough a minimum £639, maybe £739.
Unless you, like, sell the old one.
Read the article
This is not about suddenly having to pay for access. It's about allowing people to charge for access to their content IF THEY WISH. So all the people who put stuff up for free can do so, but people who want to use YouTube as an independent way to self-publish content can charge for their work.
Anyone wanting to charge will have to differentiate from the free alternatives.
I wonder though if this is actually an attempt to barge in on Netflix as much as anything else... let established companies charge to view their stuff directly in YT.
What's annoying in practical terms, rather than your idealism being dinted?
Apart from every single Netflix subscriber who runs FF.
Re: This noscript?
It depends what you mean by "without the user knowing". They have to install the plugin of course, but then any page which uses it would automatically load the plugin without them knowing.
It seems a little pointless I have to admit.
Re: Google Doing Good Things
It's no different to MS gifting or giving crazy discounts on their software. MS do it to cynically hook people on MS, but Google are helping to spur education?
It is simply a different take on the same idea - 'hearts & minds' might be the right term.
